Heraldsuns predicted Saints line up for round 4
ST KILDA
B: C.Wilkie, D.Howard, J.Webster
HB: B.Hill, J.Battle, J.Sinclair
C: D.McKenzie, B.Crouch, N.Wanganeen-Milera
HF: M.Wood, T.Membrey, S.Ross
F: D.Butler, M.King, P.Ryder
FOLL: R.Marshall, J.Gresham, J.Steele
I/C: J.Lienert, B.Long, B. Paton, J.Hayes
IN: Ben Long (sub last week)
OUT: Jack Higgins (concussion)
"Mitch Owens enjoyed two goals and 20 touches with five tackles in the VFL and could fill a half-forward void left by Jack Higgins (concussion) but might get pipped by childhood friend and fellow draftee Marcus Windhager, whose reserves game (31 disposals, two goals) will be hard to overlook. Ben Long, however, likely did enough to keep his spot after being activated as the medical sub with two goals from 10 touches, which might keep Windhager on the outer for now. St Kilda could opt to omit Jack Hayes if the line-up is deemed too tall for the Hawthorn clash but his performance against the Tigers – a goal, 12 touches and seven score involvements – poses a firm counterargument."

I know Ratts likes his young players to keep getting game time. In the VFL if not the AFL and it's a shame putting guys yet to play a game in as the medical emergency, but Windhager deserves a promotion.

No rush, more VFL games won't do any of them any harm.

I’d bring Windhager in as medical sub…it did benefit NWM in that scenario.

No, who wants a first game as a sub, like the Bombers did with Wanganeen....No Thanks !!Saintmike65 wrote: ↑Tue 05 Apr 2022 9:19pm I’d bring Windhager in as medical sub…it did benefit NWM in that scenario.

Byrnes has been struggling this year & from all reports didn't set the world on fire at Sandy either . Needs to get his confidence back before he gets another gig at AFL level IMO

Yeah. I agree.
There is no harm in them getting some good miles in at VFL level. They have barely played in the past 2 years, and it will be a level up from what they are used to. Keep at it, keep dominating, and give them no choice but to slot in during the year.

Re: Heraldsuns predicted Saints line up for round 4
Ratts sounded like he was ready to end the tall experiment in his post match presser, but I agree that the only change should be Long for Higgins. Hayes hasn't reached the heights of the Collingwood game in the last couple of weeks, but he has contributed and the plethora of tall marking options has really helped us coming out of defence. When Sinclair or Hill get the footy at half back and they always have a few of Marshall, Ryder, Hayes, Wood, Membrey and King providing an option it means that we are less predictable (don't always have to kick to the same player) and can move it on quickly.

Hayes had 7 score involvements. You can structure play around him, he competes.

Re: Heraldsuns predicted Saints line up for round 4
I see there are some posters calling for Hayes to be dropped this week but when you highlight a stat like that as well as well as consider the space Max had in the last to get a clear run at the ball you'd have to think Ratts might want a longer look at this current set-up in outr forward line of King Membrey and Hayes. That last quarter is the best I've seen not only our forward line cohesion but the mechanism into it by the mids.

I said it before, Hayes gives a bit of a headache to oppo defence and tactics.
They normally try to negate King and Skunk, and Roma when he's in F50, but add Hayes, and it's an extra headache for defenders.
When he gets near it, if he can't mark it, he'll tap it to our advantage and set up a team-mate.
He loves getting the hard ball, and like his SANFL coach said, he just wills himself to every contest.
A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤ and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.
