92 to 10 at half time.
St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

Re: Match Thread Saints v Tigers Round 3 2022
What a great win! I was worried at half time but we found a way to turn up the pressure in the 3rd quarter. Continued the pressure in the last and they buckled. Its the first time Ive seen our blokes go for throat in the last quarter for sometime. Hopefully they can maintain that pressure game moving forward.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Tigers Round 3 2022
I think King is better suited to CHF and snagging them from the arc.
I'm not sure that Jack Hayes is mobile enough to cut it at this level, despite his first round heroics, but he is handy marking depth up forward.
We should rotate our rucks through FF as both are mobile enough to contest and bring the ball to ground where Butler, Higgins and Long can go to work.
I think Long and Higgins are playing for the same spot, so it will be interesting to see how Long goes next week for a full game.

Seb Ross in the third quarter was enormous. Mason Wood. Who had been quiet really lift in the last 45 minutes of the game. As for Paddy Ryder.......just brilliant in the centre bounces

Blistering comeback ... Crouch is a beast ... he Steele and Gresh just upped the ante around the contest and we started running
King could have had 6 or 7 in the last
Hopefully this builds belief .... well done Sainters!!

Re: Match Thread Saints v Tigers Round 3 2022
I think we need to let Hayes settle in our forward line. He competed, scrapped and presented without much reward but was dangerous. We seem to be very quick to write our players off, whether it's a quarter, a half or a game.
If our match committee was of the same mind, all of Paton, King, Hayes, Higgins, Butler, Howard, Ross, McKenzie, Wood, Lienert and Long would have been playing at Sandy today.
As a collective they did us proud today, we in the cheap seats can only thank them for their effort today.

Higgins unfortunately has to miss 10 days with the concussion protocols.SuperDuper wrote: ↑Sun 03 Apr 2022 8:32pmHiggins miles ahead of Long by my reckoning.darylcowie wrote: ↑Sun 03 Apr 2022 7:53pmI think King is better suited to CHF and snagging them from the arc.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Tigers Round 3 2022
Totally agree, particularly if its a dry day at the MCG next week. The more he plays with Membrey, King & Marshall the better they will become. Although if its wet I would consider bringing in Windhager or Byrnes.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sun 03 Apr 2022 8:41pm I think we need to let Hayes settle in our forward line. Not sure if this has been mentioned but I was super impressed with Lienert today, thought he played a ripper game!

I also think Ryder back makes a huge difference, even if it doesn’t appear so on the stat sheet

Yep, Ryder gives our midfield a fighting chance. He's arguably our most important player by a fair margin.

What a lot of us are missing is how well Ratts coached today.
Our defence was under the pump early because of the midfield, he rotated Sinclair through the middle at the right times. Then moved Hill forward and McKenzie to a HBF who both lifted. He backed Ross, Steele & Crouch to lead from the front. Leinert onto Pickett worked as did the ball movement into the F50 and our forward line clicked in the last. Wood had a huge last 45 minutes.
A slight downer Ratts said Billings had a set back with his hamstring on Thursday and will be another 2 or 3 weeks.

But In practice normally equates to one round.
There is a high probability that in the future that could be increased to two or more rounds.

Good win.
Riewoldt and Dusty are a big factor in Richmond’s ordinary showing.
Still on 23 vs 23.. it was a Saints win.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Tigers Round 3 2022
Good call. Add Webster and Paton shutting down their smalls, Bolton & Castagna were ineffective after half time. Plus Howard, Battle & Wilkie worked so hard for each other. Ratts did a great job rearranging the deck chairs in the 2nd half. Credit where it's due.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sun 03 Apr 2022 8:59pmParticularly when moved onto the wing he shut down Picketts influence.silverhalo wrote: ↑Sun 03 Apr 2022 8:49pm Not sure if this has been mentioned but I was super impressed with Lienert today, thought he played a ripper game!

Re: Match Thread Saints v Tigers Round 3 2022
After the goal to Long, we were still 5 points down 73 - 78, which was late in the 3rd quarter and there was 4:00 minutes left on the clock plus time on.
What a brilliant defensive effort and great fighting spirit by our boys to hold them off in the third quarter. This was key. If we can’t defend then we won’t games
We finished the quarter at 74 - 78. Just 4 point down. We had the momentum at that stage with double the inside 50’s and all the scoring shots for the last ten minutes of that 3rd quarter
The other thing I noticed about half way through the third quarter was that Ratts made a change.
He took Brad Hill out of the half back line

Fortunately the ump combo like us more than tigers...not too many combos that roll well for us but most roll for dogs

Re: Match Thread Saints v Tigers Round 3 2022
Great win from nowhere, skills let us down early but effort was first class. I also watched all the Sandy game and we appear to have a few waiting in the wings at last. Windy and Owens were very strong in poor conditions and will certainly be good at AFL level, Campbell will be handy if Paddy or RoMo are unavailable and both Highmore and Connolly are very reliable. Kyle didn’t get a lot of it but is all class and the blistering pace of Peris will be a weapon if his football skills develop.
