a pick in the 20's for Membrey, would you take it?
I would!!! Sharman takes his spot and we use the pick on a mid.

Membrey is a warrior for St Kilda
Just remind me - how did the trade with McEvoy turn out? IMHO for a while we tracked reasonably well from the trade - long term Hawks won this easily

Tim ain’t our future
Our future right now is not to challenge for top 4 we are miles off it
We need to look seriously at who has currency and what we can get for that
Hard part is coach is in last year and im not convinced he’s the one to take us there ….
So maybe I better shut up
Let Ratts go for it
Save the burning till season end and ramp up a Clarko /draft kids story from then …

I'll probably get howled down as well but that's ok. The people doing the howling are the reason we are the most unsuccessful side in the history of the game.Teflon wrote: ↑Mon 28 Mar 2022 10:05pmLol I be said it last year got howled down when he had currencySunnyErnie wrote: ↑Mon 28 Mar 2022 10:01pm a pick in the 20's for Membrey, would you take it?

At the end of this season I would try and trade anyone that is 28 or over who has currency. On the proviso that the trade was in our favour!!!

It’s a great idea if you don’t rate loyalty, leadership, durability and a very good B+ grade AFL player.SunnyErnie wrote: ↑Mon 28 Mar 2022 10:01pm a pick in the 20's for Membrey, would you take it?

I do rate loyalty, durability and a very good B+ player. The problem is that when we next challenge Membrey will be retired so why not cash him in if the price is in our favour?D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Mon 28 Mar 2022 10:43pmIt’s a great idea if you don’t rate loyalty, leadership, durability and a very good B+ grade AFL player.SunnyErnie wrote: ↑Mon 28 Mar 2022 10:01pm a pick in the 20's for Membrey, would you take it?

The OP reads like a recipe for another wooden spoon.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

At the end of 2022, we are losing Finnis
Just need to trade out Lethlean as well but...I don't think any one will offer anything for him

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: At the end of 2022, if another team offered....
Back when Goddard left, shortly followed by Dal, I didn’t mind it -
Outside the premiership window
Got what we could
Youth coming through the door etc etc
Freed up SC space
This was compounders a bit by the retirement of a few long servers in Kosi, Milne etc
Then it became evident through the AR years that we simply didn’t have leadership and experience at the club on and off the field.
We kept our medium core - Schneider, Jones, Ray, Gilbert but they weren’t the high performance leadership core.
We lacked on-field leadership, composure, slowing the play, responding to an opposition run on etc
Off-field there has been a consistent questioning of off-field training standards.
I realised in hindsight that my opinion on the matter was categorically wrong.
For that reason I would keep Membrey - he’s been a leader from the outset and despite the odd average performance, he’s one of the few that has achieved and maintained a consistently excellent standard and can do something against the run of play

I think we should gut the Danny Frawley Centre and turn it into a Disco and Jacko should be Bar Manager, Tony Lockett should be head of security, Stevie Baker should be a bouncer, Milne should be in charge of marketing and events.
Thoughts?

No from me.
A pick 25 mid is a significant gamble. All the good mids are gone by then.
Membrey is an automatic selection and will be for the next 3 years. Every opposition team will be playing a good defender on him.
We can fit Sharman in without having to drop Membrey. I think he is our 7th forward who starts on the bench.

Re: At the end of 2022, if another team offered....
Listening to Jono Brown and Roo on the Couch they pointed out the importance of a 2 wheel for young key forwards to help protect them . Membrey does this perfectly for King. Look at Naughton at the moment - No Bruce and he gets smashed.
Sharman isnt in our best 22 at the moment, and while he showed a lot last year, clearly injury or attitude hasn't been 10% in pre season.
I recall a lot of people not stressed Ball left as Armitage was the man in int ehwings and while Armitage had a very good career he was never at the level ball played.
Sometime we don't appreciate the work of the understated players over those of the flashy

Re: At the end of 2022, if another team offered....
Depends on a few factors. If Tim has an average season, we miss finals, the pick is in the early twenties and it's an excellent draft pool then you'd have to go for it. If Tim kicks 40 goals, we make finals, it's pick 29 and the draft pool is shallow then you laugh and walk away. If it's somewhere in the middle of those scenarios then you've got a tough decision to make.

Membrey is a good player - that we know
What guarantees a pick in the twenties will be a good player
How exactly does trading out good players (unless they want out?) make you a better team
Flawed logic
