Sandy v Casey on AFL.com

Post: # 1944188Post Jacks Back »

Just watching the first qtr of this game and it's a bit of a worry when Kent is one of the best players

1/4 time
Sandy 2.3.15
Casey 4.2.26

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Saw first quarter and saw geary kick a goal which was good. Saw our ruck was doing his best but Majak seemed to be on top of him

Getting pumped at half time, not much to discuss for the Saints. Ryder Ok looks like he needs another couple of games to get going.

Unwatchable. Woeful standard. Leo Connolly looks the only player who could have been selected in our firsts today out of this lot. Ryder will need a couple more games to get his fitness up

Just out of curiosity is Dunstan playing for Casey?
I read somewhere they took Lonie on the top up via Caseyis he playing or still playing with someone else?

Interesting to see M. Allison in one passage. Deary me. Jake Batchelor has a big job on his hands.

My player ratings for Sandy

Windhager. About 20 touches. 7/10
Owens. The same 7/10
Connolly. Only defender who gave us run and drive. Unlucky not to be playing seniors 7/10
Heath. Got better as the game went on. Typical 19 year old ruck. He's definitely not a potato 5/10
Ryder. Solid
Allison. Won't want to watch the replay of that performance 2/10
Geary. As you would expect 5/10
Kent. Busy early but faded. May have done a calf in the 4th. 4/10

If we have got any brains Geary, Ryder and Kent should not play for St Kilda again. Ryder and Geary are retiring at the end of the season anyway so what's the point? Kent is not good enough so rule a line through him. If their form is good, by all means play Owens, Connolly, Heath and Allison. But knowing the selectors, Ryder and Geary will be in next week so they can take part in Maddies match FMD.

St Kilda should never trade with Essendon and Sydney ever again!!!

Nine St Kilda listed players v 16 Melbourne listed players.

Geary and Kent are only injury back ups now. Ryder is old, but he's still a very fine player and important to us this year. We're still in the business of winning games, after all

The first time I've seen Allison play. Even he would agree he had a stinker. Has so much to learn about how to play one on one. Lacks strength and aggression. Doesn't know when to stay or go

Agree with most os SuunyErnies comments but Ryder must come in when match fit but Kent and Gears are no longer AFL standard that is if Kent ever was. Owens, Winghager and Heath could well earn a spot later in the season with Kyle a little further away. Peris may not make it and Allison is border line VFL standard

That’s what you want to see/hear
Bigfooty saying Windhager just needs midfield time
Good signs

If you play Ryder you are forfeiting the chance to expose Heath. At the end of the year I would rather have given Heath 10 - 15 games than 10 - 15 to Ryder. Ryder can have a farewell game in round 23. Our list is in a world of pain and there is no room for sentiment anymore. We have to grow some balls and become ruthless. But as usual, it won't happen and Ryder will play 15 games this year (barring injury).

Only watched 3/4 it was tough watching ended in 83 point hammering.

Curly the other players would have helped but Casey were a class above across all lines.

Windhager played mid mostly after 1/2 time. He and Connolly were our best, had 23 touches.
Connolly had 20 touches and was creative in a tough day in defence.
Owens also did ok with 20 touches. He will be a player just needs time at that level.
Peris shows enough to say he has a future. Is really courageous and a great tackler for his size.
Kyle got a knock in the 2nd quarter, difficult game when the ball lived at the other end.
Paddy looked sluggish and definitely not match fit. Although he still contributed.
Geary got a bit of it but still does the dumb things.
Heath has plenty of upside, competes well & has quick hands for a big man.
Kent usual game some ok mostly rubbish.
Allison absolute worst on field, he is no where near it. Why he got a contract extension last year is another list management mystery?

I see that our better players included Windhager, Connolly, Owens and Heath.

Which gives one cause for optimism.

Pity the forum can't concentrate on any positives at the moment.

All the negative crap being posted is quite depressing.

Heath doesn't yet have the fitness or experience against men to qualify him for senior football. It's his first proper game outside of junior football. If he excels this season, then maybe two games at the end of the year (if we have injuries) But I doubt the club would even do that.

Of course having 10 more AFL listed players would help. Let’s be serious it’s a massive advantage.
