I read an interesting theory on here or somewhere else. Can’t remember.
It went like this, if we got Petracca, we may not have got Max King because we would have been a better team and finished in a slightly higher ladder position.
It was a plausible theory though obviously impossible to prove and before anyone knocks me, I’m just trying to make us all feel a little better.
Better decisions were required at the end of 2018 to strengthen our midfield so we could compete with the current contenders. We still may have got King too. If Finnis didn’t extend Richo’s contract perhaps a lot would have changed because (let’s not forget…it was) Cho and co. who agreed to bring in Hannebery
Lethlean getting together with his mate (which is Hannas old man) and hatching a plan to extend Dan’s career on ridiculous coin and a retirement nest egg may indeed haunt us as much as the Petracca/McCartin decision.
If Lethers doesn’t deliver by 2024. Then he needs to hand in his Saints polo like Matt Finnis
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

Seriously, you are confused by my position. So you say. Then, let me be crystal clear. Concussion is a life changing injury. It has led to not just AFL players taking their own lives but premature deaths of athletes in other sporting codes. It needs to be taken seriously and repeat offenders, as in multiple concussion sufferers, should not be playing.Vortex wrote: ↑Thu 17 Mar 2022 9:35amI'm confused by your postion? I don't think that anyone could seriously challenge what you say or your views on this subject.
I certainly wouldn't. But I maintain that the decision is purely up to Paddy, the AFL and the Swans.

Re: Paddy McCartin a Swan
It's a players choice and I come back to an earlier point, unless the AFL turn the game into a non contact sport I can't see how concussions can be avoided. Every club would have a significant number of players who are being concussed on a regular basis. It's the nature of the game isn't it?damienc wrote: ↑Thu 17 Mar 2022 1:29pmSeriously, you are confused by my position. So you say. Then, let me be crystal clear. Concussion is a life changing injury. Paddy is clear proof the AFL can't stop players from playing after concussion, if they were then they would have to either sack all current players who have had concussion and/or make the game a non contact sport.
As bizarre as that sounds the hierarchy of risk controls are not applied the same way they are under WHS laws.

What happened with him back in 2003’ish is essentially what kicked off the huge focus on concussions/CTE etc
I won’t share the story here as it’s pretty horrific stuff but if you google it, the circumstances surrounding his death will come up readily enough

Re: Paddy McCartin a Swan
Players want to play, and 99% don't think of the long-term circumstances, especially younger ones.
Retired players have openly spoken about 'cheating' the concussion tests so they wouldn't get sidelined.
Paddy isn't your average case, I have never seen a sportsperson across any sport (including combat sports) who gets concussed as easily as him.
Sometimes people need to be saved from themselves.

Re: Paddy McCartin a Swan
From afl.com.au
'IF ...
Paddy McCartin's last AFL match was game No.35 in round 16, 2018 ...
THEN ...
absorb that slowly, and factor in the hardship, the unknown and the fear that has been at play in the time since. Game No.36 for him will be Saturday night, with new team Sydney and alongside his brother Tom, who was playing game No.7 in that corresponding round in 2018. This is one of the great stories of 2022, no matter what happens next."

Forget about the guy. He doesn't play for the Saints anymore. Thanks Trout!

So your saying a club del9berately buggered up the draft in the hopes they might get a then 14 year old kid four years down the track? You really think that's plausible?saynta wrote: ↑Thu 17 Mar 2022 12:14pmSaintPav wrote: ↑Wed 16 Mar 2022 9:50pm Not picking Petracca was a colossal f.uck up of the highest order.

Re: Paddy McCartin a Swan
The Petracca/Paddy pick literally gives me nightmares.
It really affects my mindset toward the footy these days.
Cannot believe it…still
Tongue in cheek but should they offer 2-3 sessions a week at the Dfrawley centre for those that can’t move past this..

Perhaps if we knew he was a CHB we might have chosen Petracca.
Hard to believe Richo couldn't decide between Hickey & Longer & still forgot Marshall was on our list.

Yeap. Injury prone forward, move them back, different dynamics.

Re: Paddy McCartin a Swan
Let’s face it if we’d draft petracca he would have gone wild, not lived up to potential and would have been traded for a late pick and change (player in twilight)

So St Kilda for Paddy to be a lock at CHF in the AA team.
Just looking forward to us having a real crack each week, and appreciating the younger talent coming through.
