29 and 7 tackles I reckon he did his part.

Kent cost us the game he is actually the worst player I've seen at StKilda.

Isn’t that kind of the point?

I would say stuffing up a certain goal at a critical time by failing at a skill my 3yo nephew has mastered contributed quite significantly to the result.

No one was expecting miracles but the ‘other people played poorly too’ excuse is getting laughably thin too.

Owen had an average game but was debuting

Kent was atrocious but not sure why Dan Butler gets a pass. He keeps going at this rate I highly doubt he will get another contract.

I don't think Butler gets a pass.
Does Ratten and co. get a pass?

Good question, but watching live it's the workrate difference for mine.
Kent does not pressure, chase or push up and back nearly as hard as Butler does.

Lonie must shake his head that he got the @rse while Kent is still running around on a Friday night.

Fair point.

I would say Butler has been better overall in the time period, is younger and didn’t make a fatal/atrocious mistake when it mattered most.
I can accept that players get beaten on the day. Especially players in the FP type position/role but when we get into this territory of being actively harmful to the team’s performance… that’s another thing.

Butler still had 13 touches and 6 tackles. Tried hard but was beaten

I would honestly play Geary as a defensive forward before giving Kent another go.

Kent should have been delisted after last year. The only good game be played was against Freo in the final round. It was too little, too late.

It's quite staggering that there's a guy on our list who can't hold a chest mark. Baffling selection - I expected him to be terrible and he was even worse that I thought.

Eddy played 33 games in 5 seasons

So Lyon didn’t play him that much?!

Funnily enough
8 of his games were finals

Yep along with Geary
Club can’t and won’t make the tough calls - it’s all cozy “buddy buddy” down there…
Ratts gives us an update on Gearys return from injury like a beat up small defender with suspect foot skills is the messiah
But makes no mention of the future in Bytel et al - seriously worried

Might I be bold to suggest that our girls are better chest marks and would have held on to that sitter.

Don't forget that Sharman who is a great mark and a goal kicker, didn't get a game as he has to work on his contested marking. Kent can't hold a chest mark, King drops marks he should be taking..- this club is really switched on

Kent is a real confidence player, without things going his way he drops his head too quickly. The club made an error giving him another years contract and I agree with the thread he shouldnt be playing.

Dropping chest marks, making highly visible and atrocious errors is embarrassing but it is not the crux of it. If he was there to get that mark he was at least doing something right.

1991? 2? ish
VFL Park Waverly
St Kilda playing in their first final since dinosaurs roamed the earth.
Saints are up and about..but Geelong is coming hard, and now they are over running us.

It is heartbreak kick-by-kick, play-by-play..you know the feeling.

Plugger missing several easy set shots (like King on Friday?

Ball on the wing, right near where I was sitting. Straight into the trusty embrace of Paul Harding. St Kilda’s reliable short Ruckman in anew Sheldon-led world.

Harding pushes out the best chest, and his arms strut forward like a pair of forklift forks. In goes the shiny red spinning ball, and bang!..it bounces right off his chest like a basketball!!

Harding was a sold player. Just a miss.

Geary, dropping that simple chesty in that final (Richmond 2022?!
It happens..

But the thing with Kent is way more and deeper..and the game plan, and the lack of personnel, and the culture, and it all adds to the pressure.

He can drop a chesty..it’s Ok
But, heaven please, help us in the bigger picture.

It would be fine if he had other attributes.

That was quite literally the one opportunity he had the entire game to do something worthwhile that didn’t involve the opposition handing him the ball on the goal line.

Butler has copped some flak this thread but he at least has good games every now and then, and Higgins for all of his faults at least creates opportunities for himself and others.

If your whole skill set is to get given the ball when your standing by yourself (which is mostly how Kent tends to score)… then you have to make your 4 possessions count.

He needed to take the mark, go back and slot that goal cool as anything. Anything else is a waste of time

I agree.
I was banging on about Kent and Parker too, way, way back. I can’t see how we kept him, and concluded that it is a symptom of a poor culture/cultural issues. Basically, I figured Kent was co-operative and willing and a coach favorite.

He also gets along well with the leadership group and the selectors and he used to laugh very loudly whenever Richo made a joke

My underlying fear is that Bytel will grow tired of waiting for a proper chance and will request a trade. Some other club will then utilise his talent and develop him into a decent midfielder 🙄
