Re: Umpiring
Hey Curly, thanks for the dedicated thread, I appreciate it.
The AFL has lost $squillions over the past couple of years. Would it be cynical of me to think the umpires may be encouraged to support the big drawing clubs?

Re: Umpiring
Yes, our backline simply wasnât up to snuff tonight. I donât think Battle did enough for a CHB. Looks like we canât have both Battle and Highmore in the team, which is disappointing. I liked what I saw of Highmore last year.

They didnât pay us one of those prior frees three times they put the whistle to the mouth. Then ball up.

Re: Umpiring
From where I was sitting, we got the rub of the green.
Certainly wasn't a factor this week.
Bad decisions for both sides.
We were second to the ball and didn't want as much.

Re: Umpiring
Oh and the holding the ball on Wood. Too good.
Collingwood player pushes the ball under his legs and lies on it. Ball up.
2 seconds later our player gets pinned to the ground immediately after getting it, by 2 Muggies smothering him. Holding the ball, of course.

Sure 25 frees to the filth and 18 to us gives us the rub of the green. FFSBanger9798 wrote: âSat 19 Mar 2022 12:06am From where I was sitting, we got the rub of the green.

Re: Umpiring
Hayes should have been paid a mark or a free 40 metres out in the 4th when we were 11 points down.

Re: Umpiring
Good thread Curly, perfect spot for those wishing to vent about poor umpiring on match day. A lot of head scratchers last night, the perfect storm in conjunction with selection, game style and mediocre skill sets.

Re: Umpiring
Also - Also - it is the unrecorded cr@p - like De Goey can stand all day after taking a mark - but the minute we 'look sideways' it is play on - more often than not to disadvantage
This has been a bug bear of mine - if you want to slow the game up - and get a better game - allow the kicker to assess the options - and kick to advantage - not call play on without the benefit of looking downfield
It is pretty obvious when a player is wasting time
Also Also Also - When are we going to see stats of which umpires pay which frees and where on the ground.

Yep loved it. Means I don't have to read all the shitty comments in the match thread which I only used to read for curly's comments on the cheating maggots.

Re: Umpiring
I had a close friend's 60th birthday to go to so didn't get tot watch the match until midnight.
I was obviously disappointed with our performance but thought the umpires definitely had an overwhelming influence
on the final result with some of their inconsistent, and at times laughable, decisions that went against us.

Re: Umpiring
Pendlebury and Sidebottom were caught with the ballâŠplay on
Lapinski didnât dispose of it correctly about 3 timesâŠplay on
Dan McKenzie gets his head crunched from a Collingwood player coming directly at himâŠplay on
Hayes had his arm chopped and his ear massaged late in the dying minutesâŠplay on
There were 5 or more errors in the dying minutes of that last quarter that were obvious and the problem is that we had some momentum after the goals to Skunk and Gresh and it was snuffed out from under us. The deliberate paid against Steele was the worst. It was at a critical time in the game and in a dangerous attacking position for us with the footy forward of centre.

Re: Umpiring
I've just watched the replay and I have to say Collingwood had an absolute charmed run with the umpiring calls. The things they would do would be no free and the exact same action from us resulted in a free.
The umpires make sure the free count end up similiar, but it's critical calls at critical times that kill us.

Re: Umpiring
The blatant arm chop followed by the holding the ball decision in the last quarter was horrific .... as bad as I have seen
How many times have we seen players swung 360 or 540 and been given the time to dispose of the ball and no holding the ball paid

Re: Umpiring
Funny watching DMac get taken high twice in five seconds, the umpire paid a free against him for holding the ball.
DMac was even watching the umpire as the tackler's arm was over his shoulder, made no bloody difference.
