I thought they signed Hayes as per original report?
Not sure how Jon Ralph concluded the club had signed Hayes as it hasn't been confirmed publicly by the club.
The club appears to be having a look at a few players before publicly announcing any new additions.
We'll know definitely by the 10th of March as the 9th is the cut off date for SSP's.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

He is signed regardless of whether we have announced it .
His club is SA has announced it on their website and he was included in team photo yesterday whereas other players trialling were not.

Thanks for the heads up, however, i'll believe it when it's announced officially.

I didn't want to create a new thread about Blake Schlensong as he's mentioned here twice.
It's just been reported that Freo has lodged paperwork for Schlensong to train with them, ppwk submitted before the SSP deadline.

Can Hayes, or Lienert & Naish, play against Essendon next week if they're not officially on the list?
I assume not.
The SSP deadline is March 9, and we've given paperwork to The Kremlin, and they approved it.
Yes, they can play

Do you trust the Kremlin ?

Great get if true & might play more games in one year than Hanners has played in 3 at a fraction of the cost

Finally, thank god.
But really, we were always going to sign him. Third time lucky.
Surprised and glad we had the good sense to grab him.
By surprised I would have thought he was on the radar of a lot of clubs.
SA has been pretty good to us.

Dunstan not so much.
Dunstan played over 100 games. That is good enough.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.
With all the talk of Covid topups I’m surprised the afl haven’t upped the list numbers to say 50 and that would allow more fringe players in the system
Interesting that Jack Sheedy his old coach says he can be a bit untidy with the ball but basically said he's a warrior. So sounds like a more skilful version of Jason Blake

Untidy yet more skilled than Blake?!
Id be thrilled if he's close to as good as Blake... Would be a very valuable part of the team..
Put into another context, I think Sheedy was referring to reasons why he hasn't made the level before.
Being untidy with the ball clearly doesn't matter in the AFL if you can accumulate enough possessions, there are plenty of examples to draw on.
I think at this stage, Hayes only plays when Ryder or Marshall can't and he won't be at too many centre bounces against the best rucks anyway.
Ideally, he will shape himself into a running and marking, tall high forward and when he rucks, he plays loose behind the ball and links rebounds out of defensive.
Both Marshall and Ryder bring these attributes to our game. Their presence in these roles makes our running game more reliable.
Hayes' ability to follow and mark the ball and win more 1:1 contests than he loses probably shouldn't diminish all that much because of the higher level, but his fitness should accelerate quickly in the environment.
If the oppo ruck has to man him up, that's a bonus.
For Hayes to be effective, Crouch, Ross and Steele will have to be more accountable for their midfield opponents and players like Sinclair, Webster, Wilkie, Hill, Billings and Byrnes will have to get creative further up field and get the ball moving cleanly and quickly.
