Every week we should have a match thread and a seperate curly umpire thread. It would be huge improvement to gameday

Did they play the Carlton theme song after the game.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

People who concentrate on the umpires lose sight of the negs and positives of the side (and invariably pisses everyone off)
Those who concentrate solely on the players usually end up coaches

Great game other than the before mentioned. No injuries and a solid hit out against a far more desperate club.

Re: Practice Match Carlton v St.Kilda - Ikon Park, Thursday 24th February, 10:00AM
Wow thankfully its a practice match because there is a lot of work to be done.
Our midfield (apart from Ross) to put it politely were very ordinary, 2nd to the ball and no run or spread.
Our clearance work was putrid, the ruckman & mids were owned by Carlton.
Our F50 entries were another bombathon. WTF???
Our defensive unit kept us in the game - all played well except Joyce.
But transition from defence forward was poor, once again the midfield was poor.
No systems evident?
Surely Ratts has more of an idea about forward 50 entries than just sit it on top of Kings head???

Re: Practice Match Carlton v St.Kilda - Ikon Park, Thursday 24th February, 10:00AM
Are we allowed to be honest yet? Well, I thought we were dead ordinary - irrespective of whether it was a practice game or not. I thought Carlton were quite a bit better, especially in terms of stoppages, skill execution and ball movement from one end to the other. Should have won by more.
Not saying it's doom or gloom for 2022, but I was struck by how many of the issues of early last year were on show - poor skill by hand and foot, inability to make good decisions under pressure, indecision when not under pressure, seems to be a lack of clarity on the game plan. Only a practice match but I was a bit disappointed to see such a familiar pattern of error-making in a match situation.
And stoppages...would love to know what our setup was there and the lack of numbers around the ball. Seemed like we were backing ourselves to win the contested ball (didn't happen) and spread quickly, but we've only got one Jack Steele and he wasn't going full throttle.
I love the general optimism of this place in pre-season each year - it's good, it's healthy for supporters to have hope - but I'll need to see so much more before thinking we're a top 8 side, let alone a contender.
Edit: Despite all that, buy a membership. It's the best thing you can do to help us get up the ladder. My pessimism is likely misguided

well i like having curly contribute - like being at a game with a blindly parochial saints supporter losing it behind me.
we just need a loud mouth drunk or three, a foul mouthed aggressor, the pessimistic 'i told you so' (actually have plenty of them), and the annoyingly smarmy devils advocate (have one of them as well).
so play on sir i say!

missed the game. haven't re-activated yet - not giving them $25 a month for practice matches - you'd think the tight arses would have them free as a promo for those considering season access.

You would hope so. It’s a losing strategy. Need to exploit other targets and also to move it quicker.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Thu 24 Feb 2022 12:58pm Surely Ratts has more of an idea about forward 50 entries than just sit it on top of Kings head???

OK, please give me your honest appraisal..
(I only saw the last quarter from 4 and half minutes, but I read some comments.)
1) What do you make of our midfield based on what you saw today?
2) How did the Battle experiment go?
3) Are you concerned by skill errors?*
4) Did we look fit?
5) Could we beat Collingwood like this?
*(Saw Wood and King drop straight forward overheaders in the last)

Midfield was beaten. No Marshall, Ryder and Steele wasn’t as prolific as he has been. Zak Jones was probably our best midfield. Sinclair or Membrey probably our best players.

Just checked, it's 24 February.
I've set the alarm to wake me the morning of round one.

It's a one track record over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again and again and again. It's spamming the forum. Contributes nada else to the place except for his umpire obsession. That's a true reason for

Battle a real positive.
"Towering forward performances from Tim Membrey and Max King had helped St Kilda overturn an early 27-point deficit to lead at half-time, while Josh Battle was arguably the side's best player after switching into a lockdown defensive role this summer."
