I just about had a heart attack there...sainterinsydney wrote: ↑Thu 10 Feb 2022 4:05pm Looks like Ben King may have done his knee. Asking price will likely go down
That is terrible news if true.
I would still pick him up in a trade for a first round pick.
Look at how Max is going after hurting his knee.

A nearly gave my dad a heart attack when I told him. Hence why I made sure to say Ben in the subject heading

Don’t need him, this should just add to the other reasons

Re: Ben King potential ACL
He would be crazy not to be in talks with the GC to extend his contract. He is on $600000 now. He got that contract after 14 games.
We probably can't afford him anyway.
How the hell they gonna cash in on all the high drafts picks Rowell, Rankins, Anderson, Bowes, Ainsworth, etc. There is more than a 1/4 of the cap there if all things are even and none of them are what you would call experienced let alone senior players and then there is the injury and go home factors.
5 x $800k for Ben. I dont think so.

It’s a good point. If all those high draft picks realise their promise, how are they going to keep them all?CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Thu 10 Feb 2022 5:52pm He would be crazy not to be in talks with the GC to extend his contract. He is on $600000 now. He got that contract after 14 games.

Re: Ben King potential ACL
Apparently we gave a very similar offer to 28 year old with injury concerns & he accepted it & has played 15 games in 3 years I know which player I would rather have on our list . Ben will more than likely stay at the Sun's anyway but no harm in testing the water IMO anywayCQ SAINT wrote: ↑Thu 10 Feb 2022 5:52pm He would be crazy not to be in talks with the GC to extend his contract. You think with Dan Hannebery coming off an 800k contract at the end of the season that we don’t have SC room??

Re: Ben King potential ACL
What I think is that GCS can't afford to pay a recovering Ben King $4m for 5 years.
They will think they can't afford not to.
Lukoscious, Rowell, Rankins, Bowes and Ainsworth will be licking there lips because if Ben signs on $4m or $3.5m or even $3m
it pushes all the above players prices up and clubs will be lining up to snatch them.
If they all stay, their cap will be shot before any of them plays in a final.

Re: Ben King potential ACL
Perhaps Marshall, Paton and Byrnes will dip into our cap by a fair margin of Hanners salary and Crouch, Hill, Howard and Ryder weren't there when we signed him.
Ming, Wilkie, Clark, Coffield, Sinclair, Membrey and Steele will have all had significant pay rises and in the mean time Hanners, Geary and Kent will free up space.
It will be tight but we just need a 'I want to play for St.Kilda' from Ben to find out if we have the space. If he says those words, I reckon we have the space, if he doesn't, I reckon we don't and I believe we would do much better investing $4 on a mid anyway.

If St Kilda had a fairly good '22, would the managers of (a,b,c,d,x,y,z) come asking for more money?
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

What about the other bloke from GWS who “can be found at the Nags Head Hotel every Wednesday, sinking beers with babes.”…
That quote is in his wiki bio. Some cheeky mate of his must have temporarily snuck that in

I feel for Ben and I suspect Max will be hurting for him as well. I wish him a full recovery. Ideally he signs a contract that takes him to RFA status & then puts the blinkers on to only wish to play with Max at the Saints.

Re: Ben King potential ACL
Now that Bing's ACL injury has been confirmed i hope he signs a 2 year deal to stay at the Suns, that way he can recover on their payroll and when it's proven he's as good as new
then Gags can have a crack at him.
then Gags can have a crack at him.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

About the first time I have been disappointed that an opposition player did a knee.

So the King brothers have a genetic defect it would seem.
I hope our future flag prospects don't hinge on dodgy knees.

Re: Ben King potential ACL
I’m in the GC atm and had dinner last night with people who know Ben King’s girlfriend. They reckon she’s moving up here and have told them she expects to be living there for at least 2 years, coinciding with the expected length of his next contract on the GC
