Jack Lonie to VAFA!
Old Haileybury.
This time last year he was riding high.
Our AAMI Community Series game against Carlton - he killed it, with 4.1, loads of good stuff.
I suppose ‘The Butler Showed Him the Door’
Nice one Shane.

Re: Jack Lonie to VAFA!
Continues the strong link between OH and the Saints. Having Stewie Loewe there as assistant coach helps keep that connection strong. OH will be very strong in B section this year.

Re: Jack Lonie to VAFA!
That's it, isn't it?
How come he was not picked up?
Surely, as a back-up small forward.

Re: Jack Lonie to VAFA!
IMO Jack was lucky to get as many games as he did, too small to stick a tackle ,poor overhead , not overly quick ,no tank but his biggest down fall was he lost the ability to kick goals from limited opportunities that he did early in his carrier . I'm not surprised he had no interest should have been delisted 2 years ago but as I said IMO

Yep..I agree, but then, wait on,,,he could be very handy.bangaulegend wrote: ↑Tue 01 Feb 2022 10:13pm IMO Jack was lucky to get as many games as he did, too small to stick a tackle ,poor overhead , not overly quick ,no tank but his biggest down fall was he lost the ability to kick goals from limited opportunities that he did early in his carrier . I could think of many games in 2020/21 when Kent or Long were picked ahead of him, where I would have thought he could have helped.

Re: Jack Lonie to VAFA!
Surprising to hear that he's not going to a state league. Absolute gun as a goalkicking mid at VFL level but his physical limitations were always going to prevent him from establishing himself in the AFL.

Re: Jack Lonie to VAFA!
Couldn’t stick a tackle
But laid 230 in his career at 2.6 per game
I’m sure he got a very good deal at OH which is why he chose them

Re: Jack Lonie to VAFA!
Like it or not BM the bottom line is he was a goer but just not consistent enough to make it at AFL level IMO anyway

Re: Jack Lonie to VAFA!
This isn't about me BM.
Your man is gonna play in the VAFA. Says it all really.
Given he was an opportunist and was never a target in the big league, he might spend a lot of time being closely checked and staging for the odd free kick, and then again, he might just find his niche in the AMATEURS.

Its hilarious the s*** people will dribble when their credibility as an 'armchair expert' is found to be a little short of the mark.

Re: Jack Lonie to VAFA!
As he should at VAFA level. That he's decided on not playing VFL means that even he knows his time is up and papers are stamped.
Go you red, black & white warriors

Trivia Quiz
Jack Lonie’s career is over at 25!
87 Games.
Which other St Kilda little man played 85 games and was shunted off and finished at 25?
Hint
Ever stayed at an Air BnB?

Re: Jack Lonie to VAFA!
The bloke managed 85 games despite serious limitations. His major flaws were that he was very one-sided and couldn't kick it very far, which is a huge disadvantage in modern day AFL football.CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Wed 02 Feb 2022 9:58pmThis isn't about me BM.

Bloke is a gun footballer, don't see why you'd s*** on him, to play 85 AFL games is nothing to sneeze at especially at his size. Gave his all for the club and was much-loved.
He's clearly good enough to play VFL football in fact he destroyed it at that level. He's made the choice to play VAFA which is fine but your suggestion that that is his level is ridiculous and moronic.

Re: Jack Lonie to VAFA!
Of course its moronic, I should have never forced him to do it. Bad me. FFS.lewdogs wrote: ↑Fri 04 Feb 2022 9:22pmThe bloke managed 85 games despite serious limitations. Re: Jack Lonie to VAFA!
From all accounts he was super fit, was a great trainer, a great club man and was popular. Those things are great.
Facts are he played 85 games in our worst run since the 70's/80's. Now he is playing VAFA. Good luck Jack, strange decision but.

Re: Jack Lonie to VAFA!
So you think he should have been offered a new contract ? No wonder we have only one premiership if you think along those lineslewdogs wrote: ↑Fri 04 Feb 2022 9:22pmThe bloke managed 85 games despite serious limitations. Re: Jack Lonie to VAFA!
I find the irony being that it's the Amateurs. Has the VAFA given up pretending they are not the highest paying competition outside of the AFL?
