2022 trade period
I know it's a long way out, but I thought I would start a discussion regarding the 2022 trade.
Ben King is already under media pressure to resign with GCS and that's only going to heighten as the season progresses. I think we all hope he joins Max at the Saints during the trade, but what if it doesn't eventuate?
What should the club do if Bing doesn't arrive - go to the draft again or look at other players? A player who comes to mind we could start showing interest in is Noah Anderson from GCS.
I believe his dad is still on our board, so surely we could convince him to come home if Bing decides to stay.

Re: 2022 trade period
If Bing does what I consider to be the right thing and extends his stay at the Gold Coast, then the Saints should continue their current trend, use the trade and draft windows to improve the list.
Poaching is part of the AFL landscape so whilst we are trying to get class players from other AFL clubs, clubs will be looking at our list to fill their needs. Let's hope we get more class than we lose.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: 2022 trade period
Apparently there are about 6 guys who have made a pact to stay if Big stays and to leave if he goes - if this is true there is no way the AFL will let Bing go.

Re: 2022 trade period
Fingers crossed he leaves (for us) & the others leave, GCS fold & Tasmania get their long overdue AFL named club. Re: 2022 trade period
There will be a lot of things in play as GCS and the AFL will be desperate for him to stay. I would suggest if he hasnt re-signed before the midway mark of the season its game on.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Sun 30 Jan 2022 7:02am Apparently there are about 6 guys who have made a pact to stay if Big stays and to leave if he goes - if this is true there is no way the AFL will let Bing go.
As far as the salary cap & trade questions, we would probably have to make some room. It may well be Hannebery's last year so with him retiring we might still have to move on a mid table player. But if Bing is gettable (like Lynch) he could become the final piece to us winning a flag? I dont believe recuiting him would come at the expense of losing players we cant afford to move on.

Re: 2022 trade period
They'll stay if Bing stays hey? Then Bing's decision is the only important one and the other 5 are sheep. Im betting at 6 different clubs, the other 5 are the catalysts in the same story.

Re: 2022 trade period
The rumor I heard included such names as:
- Lukosius
- Anderson
And - that was 6 others - not 6 including Bing

Re: 2022 trade period
No doubt its a rumour, but im not buying it. You either make a pact or you don't. Sounds like Bing isn't part of the pact.

Re: 2022 trade period
BKing won't leave or stay for money. It is the family factor. He will get well paid at St Kilda. The other players putting pressure on him and GC only helps us.

Re: 2022 trade period
Not getting ahead of ourselves, are we. After all it's already the end of January!
If we start tanking now we can promise our #1 draft pick to the Suns. After we sack the coaches and board for our lack of on field success.
There really are some impatient sainters on this forum!

Re: 2022 trade period
Okay - can't a pact be with 6 people who believe that the actions of one other person will affect the prospects of the club?

Re: 2022 trade period
I know it seems to be self defeating but I hope that the Suns keep King and their core together. I'm not sure he's the best use of our resources on top of that but get the appeal at the same time. The Suns have done the ground work to be a very good team. I can see them doing a Brisbane at some point and surging up the ladder. They probably won't do it this year but I can see them making in roads.

We should do everything we can to get him.
Lookat what Geelong or Westcoast do to get their man, why shouldn't we?

Re: 2022 trade period
Second best choice, assuming we can’t get him, Gold Coast continues to fail, Bing takes an enormous part of their salary cap and turns out to be mediocre.
Gold Coast are 14th or below on ladder. Appalling crowds. Low TV ratings. No sponsor, and poor old Stewy Dew gets photographed pissing on a letterbox.
AFLs secret CIA propping up of Gold Coast is exposed more than ever, at the expense of poor old Tasmania, a football colony, and dreadful results ensure. Stuart Dew sacked round 22.
Still, despite everything, massive corruption exposed in press notwithstanding, Bing stays, and Kevin Sheedy, now 75, is asked to coach.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!
