Re: ASHES 21/22
I agree about Bairstow, I think he looks like he’s a tosser.
Same as Stokes, Anderson and Broad.
This Test is moving quickly now which is good, Aussies getting bowled out today would be best for the game.

Re: ASHES 21/22
At lunch Warne said he'd bat for 8 or 9 overs tomorrow, bat them out of the game, then declare. Every other commentator & lounge room skipper was saying to have an hour at them tonight with a 330 to 350 run lead.
Now Warne opened up after tea with the have some overs at them tonight but perhaps Pat might want to get 400 in front so will declare tomorrow morning.
Really surprised me but I'm beginning to think he just likes the sound of his own voice.

Re: ASHES 21/22
Seriously, even these selectors couldn’t invent some bull dust to keep Khawaja out of the next test. Should have been in from the start.
The Aussies will need to have a good crack with the ball tonight to have any chance of winning I would think.

It's an old saying but true that empty vessels make the most noise.
Who ever thought up that saying must have had the f****** pommie Barmy Army in mind.
Annoying as a f****** swarm of locusts and about the same brain power
f****** morons if you ask me.

Re: ASHES 21/22
Having picked up no wickets with the new ball, I can’t see how this will be anything but a draw now.
The Poms will shut up shop, and unless one of the bowlers does something remarkable, there’s just not enough time left.

Is he what. 6’5” and bowls 140km/h with immaculate line and steepling bounce. Averages 50 with the bat in first class cricket after 37 matches. Is like a big cat in the gully.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sat 08 Jan 2022 5:01pm A big future for Green. Selfless, unassuming and extremely talented.
Who do you drop to keep Khawaja in? I guess you could say Harris, but do we really want to introduce a 35-year-old opening batsman?

Re: ASHES 21/22
Poms will still be dreaming of winning it. Get to tea 3 or 4 down for 240ish, then have a bit of a tonk like Stokes and Bairstow in the first innings. Wouldn't totally write them off just yet.

Re: ASHES 21/22
Harris has got to go. I saw a stat this morning that there have been about 200 openers in the history of Test cricket to have 25 innings, and Harris ranks in the 190s.bigcarl wrote: ↑Sun 09 Jan 2022 10:27amIs he what. 6’5” and bowls 140km/h with immaculate line and steepling bounce. The difference between him and Khawaja is too great.

I don’t think they’ll be close enough at tea.
Also dropping catches doesn’t help!

Re: ASHES 21/22
Not a big fan of Harris. To his credit he played well in Melbourne and has been useful elsewhere. Averages about 40 in first class cricket, but hasn’t really found his feet at Test level.The_Dud wrote: ↑Sun 09 Jan 2022 10:32amHarris has got to go. The question remains though, do we really want to introduce a 35-year-old opening batsman? Particularly one who isn’t opening for his state and bats best as a middle-order player. To my mind Khawaja should have been a feature of our team over the past decade. A class player, but he is 35.

Re: ASHES 21/22
bigcarl, ageism ? You have dashed so many hopes. Think Boland, and Bairstow. I am not letting Paddy read that 35 too old for cricket. Although I don't think he really is on the selectors' radar for Hobart.

Re: ASHES 21/22
Bit more than 3 an over between now and tea. ( another 87 overs in the day from here) will leave them needing 5 an over after tea. Stokes and Bairstow were going at 6 an over easy the other day. They're still in it. I thought yesterday when Cummins declared that I would have liked a 425 rather than 385 target. I would have batted them out of it. As it stands all results are still possible.The_Dud wrote: ↑Sun 09 Jan 2022 10:33amI don’t think they’ll be close enough at tea.

The problem is, apart from the perpetually injured Pucovski, there aren't any other strong candidates.bigcarl wrote: ↑Sun 09 Jan 2022 10:38amNot a big fan of Harris. Ha! Paddy’s improving with age like a fine wine. Only question mark on him is whether his body holds up.

I suppose it comes down to whether they’re willing to risk losing the game to win.st.byron wrote: ↑Sun 09 Jan 2022 10:50amBit more than 3 an over between now and tea. Re: ASHES 21/22
Khawaja has opened and has a very good record doing it. The gap between the two is too great, u can’t keep Khawaja out for Harris.bigcarl wrote: ↑Sun 09 Jan 2022 10:38amNot a big fan of Harris. If he plays for a year or two until Will P is right I think that would work well.

Re: ASHES 21/22
Probably better for the game that the declaration was earlier rather than later. I just hate the Poms winning anything at all.The_Dud wrote: ↑Sun 09 Jan 2022 10:52amI suppose it comes down to whether they’re willing to risk losing the game to win.st.byron wrote: ↑Sun 09 Jan 2022 10:50amBit more than 3 an over between now and tea. It's not looking good is it. He did though return as an opener for Melbourne in district cricket yesterday.

Re: ASHES 21/22
You have to be forward thinking with your selection.
Khawaja is a 35 year old who has scored a couple of hundreds in essentially a dead rubber and has repeatedly failed when the heat is on. He averages 23 away from home. You need to invest time into test players and his time is up and has been for a while.
Play the youth at any cost.
