Will Hazelwood get back in at Boland's expense?
Starc dropped? Impossible to imagine.
Cummins
Hazelwood
Starc
Boland
Llyon
Green
and the wrist spinner they want to try = 7 bowlers!
Gtreen will be dropped?
How can they drop Boland?
Hazelwood may carry the drinks! Gee...
If all fit, Cummins, Starc and Hazelwood will be the 3 seamers for the Sydney Test. At 32, I wouldn’t be surprised if we never see Boland play another Test again, that’s just how it goes.
I think they might give Starc a rest. Although the variation a left armer provides adds more weight to any decision to rest him.
If Hazlewood is fit he's a lock.
If they rest Starc :
Warner
Harris
Labuschagne
Smith (due for a score)
Head
Green (no way they will drop him and nuts if they even consider it, he is the future)
Carey (has fitted in seamlessly)
Cummins
Hazlewood
Lyon
Swepson / Boland
Starc instead of Boland if they play three seamers and don't rest Starc.
They might though go with two spinners. Having Green as third seamer makes that choice easier.
Agree that it wouldn't surprise if that's Boland's one and only test.

I think we will see Boland again, he will certainly tour with the squad and make the next Ashes tour. If Siddle made the last tour, Boland's a shoe in.
He's unlucky that Cummings, Hazlewood & Starc are all fit & firing. Richardson may even be in the #4 position. He's edged out Neser for #5 paceman.
The England coach has been forced into quarantine due to being a family member of someone with Covid. As along as he hasn't has any contact with the English players in the last few days, all will be sweet and the test will go ahead.

I hope he can continue to coach them because I'm enjoying the results he's getting.
We'll only pick Hazlewood if he's 100% right...doubt Starc will be rested, as he's in career best form and it's not like he's done a massive amount of bowling!
Maybe a bowling lineup of Starc, Cummins, Boland, Green, and Lyon, same as the Boxing day test?
What a luxury to have such an arsenal of quicks...Riley Meridith from Tassie is also a great prospect!

I reckon they'll pick a second spinner which will be Swepson. Dryer, turning track anticipated for Sydney. If that transpires, then a second spinner is a good possibility.

Some 20/20 runs
Now Marsh is a test cricketer?!
Different games!
I'm not saying that, just extrapolating on your comment / observation of JL's relationship with Usman. If he truly doesn't want him in the team that would be one way of making sure he misses out.
Apparently white ball cricket is a popular path to getting a Test cap or keeping one, it seems.
Looking at the crowds for the Boxing Day Test in South Africa I can see why the South Africans don't want to play Boxing Day in Australia, too crowded!

There is no poorer excuse for a Test player than Mitch Marsh!!
That he has been called up as a possible test replacement on the back of T20 performances tells us everything we need to know about where first class cricket is at.
It's endemic and it's not going to change.
Anderson, Root adding their voices of concern about the dominance of short form meaningless games after England's debacle.
But cricket has been well and truly taken over by marketing image-meisters and corporate spin merchants. They can coo all they like about stewardship of the traditions of the game. Bottom line is the only thing they care about, and it is the only thing, is how much money can be made. Everything else if fodder for sacrifice on the altar of commerce.

Not unusual for 2 spinners to be picked for Sydney...used to be pretty much automatic to pick an off spinner and a leg spinner.
If that's the case, maybe go in with Mitch Marsh and young Cam Green as bowing options to 2 frontline quicks, giving 6 bowling options!

It might not be long before pink ball cricket takes over at test level..then there will be a ‘pink ball problem’ in addition to a red ball option.
The obvious solution is use a ball with three colours - , red, white and black, with a Saints emblem in the middle and two seams.

Dud is right. If Mitch Marsh gets picked for the test team, given his test match average, that will put an exclamation mark on the triumph of the meaningless KFC franchise fest.
