Re: Lonie
2018 and 2019 were his best seasons
Averaging 13ppg and 1.3goals
And in 2017 he averaged 4 tackles per game
But his 2020 & 2021 were disappointing and he will be delisted as a result.

Re: Lonie
Stats don’t tell the story if you don’t want them to
But clearly he performed well in 2018 and 2019 even polling Brownlow votes in both seasons which is hard to do as a forward pocket
Yes, he was fringe… but played well in the games he played
Lonie did do one of the gutsiest things I’ve seen a few years back, when he stood under a hospital pass in the centre of the ground and was smashed from behind… then got straight up to take his kick. Never took a backward step, and I respect that… maybe Coffield could learn a thing or two from him

Re: Lonie
Opportunity is earned, so we give him that. He received great opportunities at St.Kilda and it appears he prepared well, has a good tank and found his point of difference, which was his tricks.B.M wrote: ↑Wed 13 Oct 2021 7:49pm But he can be proud of having had an AFL career
Something you or I haven’t had
Play 1 game of League footy is an achievement
Play 50 means you are a good footballer
Play nearly 100 and even better
Put it this way
He turns up at your local senior club this pre season - he will be the best player by a mile and get north of $1000 per game
I"m a believer that consistency is the greatest measure of success and while he can be proud of what he did achieve, I wonder what he thinks about his lack of consistency. At St.Kilda in the era when Geary, Ross and Newnes were deemed high achievers and leaders, I can only rate Lonie as average. Geary Ross and Newnes won't be legends, but they have been consistent.

"He was fringe but played well in the games he played"
If he played well in every game he played then why was he fringe?
Should he be on our list? Is he going to help us improve in 2022?
Nice Coffield drive by B.M.. When has Coffield pulled out of a contest?

Re: Lonie
He has averaged 12 games a year, his first being his highest year tally of 17 and his lowest year was 10 in 2016.
His longest string of games was 7.
He played just over half his possible career games.
He was consistently inconsistent, good sometimes, average most of the time and in the reserves half the time.

Re: Lonie
Never injured?
You didn’t take that into account
He missed 8 games with a knee injury in his best season.
Has had some other injuries
Spin it any way you like… he played nearly 100 games

It happens regularly. Or he’s weak in the contest in the airGhost Like wrote: ↑Wed 13 Oct 2021 9:10pm "He was fringe but played well in the games he played"

Re: Lonie
Pulling out of contests??? Or Not getting to them? I've seen the latter. I doubt the former or else it would have been highlighted, debated and brought up time and again. I don't doubt his courage or commitment, I doubt his confidence, it is too fragile and makes him doubt himself.Moods wrote: ↑Thu 14 Oct 2021 6:39pmIt happens regularly. Re: Lonie
How many good games to he play this year?
The issue isn’t so we expect forward pockets to get 15 touches, 3 goals, 5 tackles every game…
The issue is can they contribute even if opportunities don’t easily come their way.
Lonie couldn’t
More often than not he went missing and couldn’t contribute
Guys like Butler and Higgins can at least push up the ground
Lonie and Kent are too limited IMO… if they’re not kicking goals they struggle to contribute
Lonie is the better crumber, Kent is more polished and better at getting into space
One could possibly be kept for depth… though to be honest, I’d rather give that spot to a developing mid

Re: Lonie
Hope he gets a chance elsewhere. Wherever he goes I hope they forgive him for the incessant yapping when he was an opponent. Tried his best. Pretty brave for his size. Maybe if he'd learned to kick with his right foot he may have had a better career with us. That's 8 players delisted.

Re: Lonie
76 games. Only 25. Good luck to him wherever he goes. Good decision by the club. Kent should be next. They'll keep him though I reckon. If they were going to axe him surely would announce it at the same time.

Re: Lonie
Played 87 games
76 goals
If he doesn’t get a gig elsewhere will be highly sought after by Frankston, Port Melbourne or even Sandy.
The SANFL and WAFL clubs will also ask the question.
Or he could go play at Frankston YCW or Balwyn or Noble Park for a s*** load as they have money to burn it seems
