Lonie
It's been reported that the club deliberately didn't play Lonie, who was one game short of the trigger needed to renew his contract.
Instead they wanted the option of dumping him.
Doesn't bother me but it might upset some people here.

Re: Lonie
If this is true, the people behind this need a good kick up the bum. Loyalty is a two way street, it needs to be given both ways. A poor way to treat anyone.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Re: Lonie
Poor by club IF true
Not sure he demanded a spot, but players should be picked based on performance.
I’ve said it before
Apart from his inability to convert his opportunities, he has been a handy player. Provides good pressure and is clever with ball in hand.
Too good for VFL footy… just can’t fully nail the difficult position of small forward in the AFL.

Re: Lonie
It’s plausible but he didn’t really deserve a spot anyway.

Re: Lonie
I say it’s sensible by the club. Lonie has been given plenty of chances. How stupid to trigger a contract of a player we’re looking to delist. I would have been furious. Not as if Lonie not playing prevented us from making finals

He’s too small and light. And at that size you need to be lightning quick and preferably have great hands. He was neitherB.M wrote: ↑Mon 11 Oct 2021 7:49pm Poor by club IF true

Re: Lonie
Jack is a good VFL player & has played some decent games at AFL level but if we are serious about getting a list together to challenge for shot at a flag well IMO he is not the type of player we need

Re: Lonie
why would you play anyone that is not likely to feature in our premiership team - regardless of ladder position/fixture. Why would anyone think it sensible to add to a games tally and automatically trigger a clause requiring another contract for a player unlikely to feature in 2022? Loyalty is a wonderful characteristic but requires both parties to contribute to a common outcome.

Re: Lonie
I’m sure the list management team keep the selectors updated about possible scenarios, especially at the latter part of the season.
I believe Carlisle’s puzzling non-selection last year was in part due to a trigger clause which was eventually reached and hence he was offered a further year this year.

Re: Lonie
Lonie, another Saints player not worth anything to other clubs, how many of them do we have on our list.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Lonie
I don’t understand.
He’s out of contract…so he’s out of contract? If we are forced to reconstruct him if played, then he is still IN a contract. There are weirder things though and I was suspicious about Carlisle’s appearances (and non-appearances) too.

Re: Lonie
Bottom line is i think he put a line through his name in the Adelaide disaster game.
while it seems harsh the question is Did he deserve a game in that period of time ?
He has had many years to cement himself as a senior player.
I recall he came in the same time as Sinclair. Early on he was in front of him , then both seemed to become fringe players, now 1was top 10 B & F and the other finished in the VFL.
The Richo regime left us with plenty of bad contracts it looks like lesson learned.
And if it was wrong why hasn't another club jumped up and grabbed him

Re: Lonie
Our club is developing a trend of not picking players who deserve a spot in the team because of outside factors.
That being said, wouldn't be the greatest loss if he left.

Re: Lonie
He is not best 22 and a fair way down the pecking order for small forwards.
Not a great look if true but also didn't deserve a game either.
