Just as an aside, we have just re-signed young Allison for another 2 years, locking him In until the end of 2024. The powers to be must see something they like?

I believe that if our first NGA pick sends us into deficit, that's it for us. Once you are in deficit, you can't go into further deficit.diddley wrote: ↑Mon 04 Oct 2021 3:34pmI was under the impression that when you match in the second and forthcoming rounds without enough points, that the deficit comes from the same round the next year, not your first pick?
If it is correct, and we pick up the 2 NGA kids after pick 20, we would only be damaging 2022’s second third or fourth rounds.
Anyone know which is correct?

Not sure you've seen our picks lol.Banger9798 wrote: ↑Mon 04 Oct 2021 2:16pm Do we think we will get anyone in the trade period?
Looks like we might have a quiet year....maybe just lose Dunstan and possibly Long and then go to the draft.
Anyone prepared to have a punt?
Hopefully Ladhams somehow, but who will be our CHB in 2022? Josh Battle?
We have one first rounder which we should NOT use on a midfielder because 80% of them left at the pick will be same as what we have....
We need:
KPB - again it's hard to draft for 2022.
KPRuck ( best to trade instead of draft - draft equals 3 yrs development!unless mature age)
KP Inside Mid ( won't get from draft unless top #5 pick)

Re: Trade-Draft 2021 Discussion
Surely it's our turn to land a Cripps or Dangerfield or Fyfe or Merrett. All the good ones don't necessarily go in the Top 5 or do these gems only materialise after we've had a Top 5 selection?
Time is now (& long overdue) for us to nail some draft picks that set us up for a genuine tilt. It seems our options are limited. Players that we are happy to have explore their options actually have no options - they have either missed their window or we've horribly over rated.
No pressure recruiters, it's only our short to medium future.

Starting to look like a future pick to be used on Xerri, our first round pick on best available HBF/Mid , our remaining picks on NGA's.

Re: Trade-Draft 2021 Discussion
FORMER Saint Luke Dunstan will play on in 2022, being acquired by Melbourne as an unrestricted free agent.
The Demons get a 26-year-old who fell out of favour at St Kilda but showed he still had plenty to offer at senior level with an excellent stretch of games last season.
Dunstan played 12 games in 2021, averaging 25 disposals, six clearances and five tackles, and also polling 11 Brownlow votes.

Anyone wanna guess the Dunstan compo? I am guessing somewhere in the pick 55-65 range.

Saints now have picks 9 - 62 - 66 - 67- 85 in the 2021 draft.
How do they get Xerri with that lot or is he future pick ?

Re: Trade-Draft 2021 Discussion
I read somewhere that with the expected picks of Daicos (Collingwood) and Darcy (Bulldogs) that those picks in the 60's will advance by 6 picks and that the total points value of them will become 440 as against the points value of pick 49 of 400.
I can't verify it as I just don't know.

Re: Trade-Draft 2021 Discussion
We lose 287 points for pick 49.
We gain: 123 points for pick 62, 80 for pick 66, and anywhere from 207 points down to 19 depending on where Adelaide finish for their 2022 fourth round pick. I think that means we only have a net gain in points if Adelaide don't make the finals in 2022.
On the surface it seems to be a strange deal as it means we are currently out of this year's draft third round. Our current picks of 62, 66 and 67 (ignoring our first round pick) give us a total of 272 points, which would only be able to match a rival bid for one of our NGA players at around pick 51.
This ignores the impact of pick moves due to AFL compensation for free agents (e.g. Dunstan to Melbourne, Chol to the Suns, etc.) and club bids on father-son selections (e.g. Daicos and Darcy).
Hopefully there are some other smart moves in play that will pan out for us....

Re: Trade-Draft 2021 Discussion
I think your question is based around being able to use the benefit for NGA players so I will ignore Adelaide Round 4 next year (unless of course we have plans to trade it back into this year)
ATM - we gave up 287 points and gained 203 (net loss of 84)
however .....
IF multiple picks below 62 are used to garner Father/Son or Academy (after 20) picks then we move up
In saying that if Pick 27 is used to cover a bid at 21 - we gain no benefit however if 17,37,50 are used to cover Pick 3 for example we would gain points.
Our Pick 49 would have moved to 48 (two under the pick being used go away but one comes back) so becomes worth 302 points - but 62 and 66 both move up 2 places and become 60 and 64 so worth 247 points
So - at least two occurrences of MULTIPLE pick usages would need to occur for us to be the beneficiary in terms of points.
At Present Collingwood have 36, 39, 41, 45 = 1,707 points so a bid comes in for Daicos at 4 they need to use all of these to cover it.
So 4 go away and 1 appears ie 49 would go back 1 for the new pick - but up 4 due to Collingwood not using 36, 39, 41, 45.
So pick 49 becomes 46 or 331 points and 62 becomes 59 while 66 becomes 63 and they are worth 270 points so we only have a net loss of 61 points (it was 84 remember)
So it is a f@rking long way back to recover the points - Unless they are getting Xerri for 66 I cannot see the point of it

So it will likely go into positive territory, plus a future 4th
How do they assess future picks for point value?

In the end we could get basically two second round picks in a year we had none.

Edited as the picks are 197 discount and not 197. So those calculations based on the match being 197 points were incorrect and so I have deleted them.

It is a 197 discount from whatever the points for pick 21 to 40 is. Not 197 points to match.
