Tristan Xerri
From BF not sure of original source
A young Roo is the latest name on the ruck merry-go-round as big men become the focus of this year’s trade period
Tristan Xerri is the newest name on the ruck merry-go-round as the potential implications begin from Tiger Callum Coleman-Jones’ impending arrival at North Melbourne.
St Kilda is on the hunt for a younger ruckman to partner Rowan Marshall beyond next year, which looms as veteran big man Paddy Ryder’s last in the AFL.
It’s understood the Saints have honed in on contracted Kangaroo Xerri after also showing interest in Western Bulldog Jordon Sweet, who remains without a contract for 2022 and is linked to West Coast.
The Bulldogs have made Sweet an offer to stay, but he was overlooked in the finals for Lewis Young, who has since requested a trade to Carlton.
North Melbourne would have to be willing to trade Xerri, who isn’t out of contract until the end of next year.
He averaged 21.5 disposals, 15.5 contested possessions, 5.5 clearances and 26.2 hit-outs in six VFL games this year, but played only eight matches at senior level, all in the second half of the season.
Todd Goldstein remains the clear No. 1 ruck option at the Roos but turns 34 next year, when his three-year contract expires.
Tom Campbell kept 201cm Xerri out of the side up until Round 13 while serving as Goldstein’s deputy.
North has identified Coleman-Jones as Goldstein’s ruck successor and convinced him to cross to Arden St, with a trade set to be brokered with Richmond before Wednesday week.
But that would leave Xerri, 22, third in line in the ruck at the Kangaroos as he enters his fifth season at AFL level.
Several other clubs, including Hawthorn, the Bulldogs, Brisbane, Sydney and even Geelong, are also surveying the ruck market.

Why does every man and his dog want to go to Carlton??
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Tristan Xerri
Xerri would be a cheaper option than Ladhams as he hasnt had much of a run at it at North. Only 4 games since recruited, but he is 22 to and a good size.

We cant afford to spend huge $$$ on a back up ruckman, I think it's a good move if the club think he has some potential.bangaulegend wrote: ↑Mon 04 Oct 2021 10:09pmIs there a reason for that? He averaged 20 disposals and 28 hitouts per game in the VFL this year. Has to be an upgrade on Hunter.

Re: Tristan Xerri
Very talented ruckman. Excellent body use. Very nice palming. Good mark. Has mobility and mongrel. North have only used him as a forward relieving Goldy when he rests and only for 8 games this year. But the guy is a pure ruckman and would be the perfect long time foil for Marshall. Toughest part of getting him is going to be convincing him that he should leave North as he grew up a North supporter. North also would be planning post Goldy so I doubt they would trade him and he is under contract. As we need all our picks - it would have to be a player swap. Battle would fit their needs. Just saying. I love Battle but Membrey / Sharman at one end and Highmore looks like he is earmarked for CHB and McKenzie has taken his wing.

Re: Tristan Xerri
StK need a very good back up ruckman in 2023 for Marshall
Marshall 8/10 ruckman
5/10 forward
We need a guy who can play forward and ruck to partner Marshall
Preferably someone Mobile
Which is why I was keen on Chol
Or
An elite tap ruckman
Xerri would be a Paul Hunter replacement

Pure Mumford type ruck - tackles to hurt type, clears space at the ball drop but is cheap ...

Re: Tristan Xerri
There are only probably 12-16 ruckman in the entire country who are dangerous when resting forward. Looking forward when Ryder retires, Id be happy to have a capable ruckman whilst Marshall can play the majority of the forward role if needed.Teflon wrote: ↑Tue 05 Oct 2021 12:06amFrom Nth fans he ain’t great up forwardB.M wrote: ↑Mon 04 Oct 2021 11:01pm StK need a very good back up ruckman in 2023 for Marshall

Re: Tristan Xerri
I reckon Marshall would be wasted if he deployed majority forward
He is a capable forward, but that’s it
He is bordering on elite as a ruckman!
After Ryder finishes up, Marshall should be #1 IMO
And a suitable back up

Re: Tristan Xerri
Xerri's skills as a tap ruckman look quite good on Youtube and he may well be pissed off by news that North are trying to bring Richmond's Coleman-Jones over to succeed Goldstein.BackFromUSA wrote: ↑Mon 04 Oct 2021 10:55pm Very talented ruckman. On the other hand you have to wonder why North would want Coleman-Jones if Xerri was any good!
Either way, you have to trust the judgment of St Kilda's List Manager to make the right call and it's interesting to have confirmation that recruiting a young established ruckman is a priority.

Re: Tristan Xerri
How does the club pay North for Xerri, give away a future pick, as per usual.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Tristan Xerri
If they get Cerra, Hewett and Lewis this year - there needs to be an inquest.
Carltons list is as good as ours (at least) as it stands without factoring in those inclusions.
I hope we are still in the window for Ladhams. He is 23 and looks very promising.

Agreed if we get Bing next year it wont be a problem as one of the Kings can give Marshall a chop out in the ruck. It was mainly next season I was thinking about if Ryder is out injured for any length of time.
