Melbourne had made a meal of past drafts and have only just seemed to have got it together when Roo's went to the club.

St Kilda just need to keep up their own smart recruiting and develop the talent it already has at is disposal and things can change very quickly.

Good teams win premierships

Good teams have good players
All teams have good players. Having them on the park fit is the key. Also you need players to have years out of the box.

I think with McCartin, we were going for an Irish stew. Petracca would have brought the bolognese

Supposedly the great man trout felt paddy was selfless and petracca selfish

Petracca tucked away his norm smith during the celebrations and photos. Why? It’s an individual award and he plays for a team

Paddy belted someone and blamed it on his diabetes

I don’t think they could’ve got the profile on CP anymore wrong

Absolute team man
Absolute professional
Absolute match winner

I’ll say it again, profiling a 17yo kid is ridiculous

I remember the WB and Hawthorn speaking to me about Toby McLean many years ago. Wanting to know if he had leadership traits, did he study hard, was he a team player, did he get along with other kids etc…

It’s ok to do background checks

But also understand kids mature

What were we like between 18-21?!

Who is to say that even if Petracca was drafted by St Kilda he would still be at the club. He would have most likely become disillusioned with the direction the club was heading and asked for a trade .... or the club would have traded him out because he didn't reach his full potential in its system.

It makes it a lot easier to become an elite player when you are surrounded by other elite players which at that time St Kilda obviously didn't have.

Sliding doors moment Groovy Guru

Who’s to say Mr Guru that Trac would have possibly won the NAB Rising star in 2015 had he come to St Kilda (and he wouldn’t have done his knee) and Saints would have won the Grand Final in 2016 instead of the Bulldogs…

Check out the playing list in 2015 from your cousin ‘Mr Draft Guru’. I think you’ll find we did have a little bit of elite talent

From someone I know who has contacts in Melbourne CP caused a few problems in his first few years at Melbourne but they stuck with him and have reaped the benefits. Also Choc has put a lot of time into him as well.

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

It’s called maturing

He has been good for a few years now (before choc was even at Melbourne) didn’t just play a good grand final.

Signed a 7 year deal earlier this year instead of doing what certain players do and ‘wait and see’ what he can get. Approx 700k a year which is probably unders.

Has shown nothing but professionalism these last few years.

Didn’t showboat after GF. Another article indicated that he spends inordinate amounts of time with fringe players at the club, helping them get better. Fringe players worship him allegedly.

Yep. But he didn’t interview well as a 17 yr old. If it wasn’t so tragic you’d piss yourself laughing

When you’re that good (like Martin and Petracca) you actually get more excited seeing someone else (a battler) kick a goal or do something important!!!

Both are selfless players who bring others into the game.

Petracca had every right to blaze away from 45 in the granny but chose to square it up, he never even looked at the goals!

Steele is also a completely selfless player, which is why he is so good. When you’re as good as Steele you can be excused for just ball hunting but he defends as well as any mid or tagger, to go with his offence.

I just hope the Saints learn from this situation.

The Medical opinion held too much weight (now where did I also hear that) and common sense was thrown out the window.

I still maintain McCartins concussions occurred due to his overall fitness.
- Late to the contest
- Too exhausted once he got to the contest
- In his endeavour to get the ball didnt have the spatial awareness to protect himself first before diving head first into the contest and ultimately ended up getting head knocks

Comes down to fitness which he was never up to the grade.

If you dont believe me, try it yourself. Run around the block (as quick as you can) then try and navigate a tight area. If you are fit you will do it easily, if your not fit you will crash and bash your way through.

I have never seen any player come off looking more exhausted than McCartin, ever. I sit in behind or to the side of the bench most games.

Injury troll love it.
You are full of sneer.

I'm not sure defending the indefensible is the smartest of moves, but your choice.

These are the facts:

1) Christian Petracca is the best player in the AFL. He is an unstoppable midfield bull.

2) I'm not going to say he singlehandedly won the Premiership for Melbourne, but he was the main reason for their victory.

3) Petracca proved, once and for all, that not selecting him as our number 1 draft pick was the worst recruiting decision an AFL club has ever made.

The worst.
Agreed right up there!!
The people involved will be cursed by our club for decades.
