The huge ? Ben King
Does he want to return to Melbourne and play with his brother?
The club will have some idea of the answer to this question but clearly we supporters do not.
If he wants to come back to Melbourne and GC know that then it will happen. If he doesn't then our whole drafting/trading strategy changes.
Yes I would take him without question. But does he want to come back to Mum, dad and Max. ??

Haven’t we learnt anything from last night?
We needs mids, not another King!

Yeah we do need a quality mid but I would be happy to have Bing on board too

9 (11) in the draft this year - take a mid. Next year King if he wants to come.

Re: The huge ? Ben King
I maintain if the Dogs had a King as a genuine target last night to monster May that might’ve helped enormously
Naughton was ineffective last night and they were relying on Trekosr/Bont to kick a score
Bing and mids aren’t mutually exclusive

Re: The huge ? Ben King
Two Kings at the coal face would be huge for club image, prestige and self-belief.
Each taking turns at full forward and further up the field. Massive.
No guarantee that this year's pick 9/11 is going to yield a quality midfielder.
Get it done this year if possible, or failing that next year assuming Bing wants to do it.

Re: The huge ? Ben King
I dont think it will happen.
GC will want too much for it.
We need a better midfield.

Re: The huge ? Ben King
It would give us a point of difference
I would be happy for us to go all in on B King
Not sure how defences would cope with two 202cm key forwards that move as well as they do

Re: The huge ? Ben King
I think what you see in the top clubs is a willingness to pay the price for stars.
Geelong for Dangerfield and Cameron
WCE for Kelly
Sydney for Fanklin
etc etc
I hope we don't vacillate on Bing, just pay the price now and get him.
Bing, Ming, Membrey, Sharman, Butler, Higgins
That is a very good forward line, and very mobile.
Either of the Kings can also play very high up the wing along with Members to take those relieving marks coming out of defence.
Yes we need midfield guns, but how many athletic, smart 202cm speed freaks are there in the competition....we could have 2 of them in the same side for 8 years

I don’t think we will make a play for King this season

Re: The huge ? Ben King
I would say that the surprise of Sharman (Yes I know he is only 193cm but hopefully he develops more) has bought the club at least a season to wait for Ben King. Midfielders are a priority.

Re: The huge ? Ben King
We don't get him for free! Will cost too many FRDPs that should be used on potential gun mids. The Dees just won a premiership with Brown and Fritsch as their key forwards...

Re: The huge ? Ben King
With the Go Home factor now a big part of players wanting to play in their home States -
Crows - Dawson
Blues - Cerra
Dockers - Clark
Cats - Ablett (return), Rohan, Stevens, Cameron
GC - Chol
Power - Finlayson
WCE - Kelly & Petrevski-Seton
What's the bet the AFL will step in and make Bing an ambassador of the game in QLD and pay him bonus money to stay up there.

Re: The huge ? Ben King
Brown and McDonald as Key Forwards
Brown kicked 60 goals 3 years running at North
He was a bargain, and was huge in their final series kicking multiple goals in each game!
You DONT only need Mids
You need good players in all 3 sections of the ground!!!
We will never have the midfield of the demons and the dogs
What we will have is the best front half in the comp!!!

Re: The huge ? Ben King
Bing is contracted for one more year. It would also be a very bad look for Suns to lose him for the 2022 season. So the price now would be ridiculous.Banger9798 wrote: ↑Mon 27 Sep 2021 11:31am

IF Bing is coming to St Kilda it would most likely be after 2022.
More important now is to keep churning through young kids to find the mids and running players that we need.
Add to that will be a key defender with at least several years into their development. There are some ok options about. Plus we need a back up ruck better than Hunter. We have Heath, but 2022 he will be raw. Ladhams would be much better than just a back up ruck, but trade cost may be hard for us to manage.

Sharman apparently also played as a taller mid...Groovy Guru wrote: ↑Mon 27 Sep 2021 11:42am I would say that the surprise of Sharman (Yes I know he is only 193cm but hopefully he develops more) has bought the club at least a season to wait for Ben King. Midfielders are a priority.
We’d have real flexibility...
I’d go mid this year plus 2 nga mids
Bing next year
We ain’t ever getting a Petracca or Bont or Danger
That’s ok
If we can win enough supply and be potent up forward good luck defends that
I thought Dogs forward line the other night looked ordinary to be honest

Article on Zerohanger. Doesn’t say much new. Quotes Kane Cornes, says we’re the obvious landing spot for him, that the druggies might also make a play and that it’s very likely he’s coming home at some point.

Re: The huge ? Ben King
You can always get mids but quality KPP are not that common get him now what ever the cost trade battle as well as picks for him.
If we wait till next year the AFL will step in or Essendon plus GC will get more for him if he is still in contract.
We do need mids but with Gresham’s back plus improvement of some of the young boys it will help.
We also need KPD which we should look at there are few in WAAFL,SANFL that might fit.
With NGA boys we should look to be in top 4 in 2022 but waiting till next year maybe to late and who knows what might happen.

Re: The huge ? Ben King
The injectors will try and snare King and shaft us which they are good at doing..
Dildo Didora will try anything to land Bing.
Wright and King deadly duo in their forward line.
BOOM BOOM

Re: The huge ? Ben King
Why would King go anywhere but the Saints ..... its the dream .... to play with his brother & for his boyhood club
It's either stay at GC or Saints - with the imminent retirements of Geary Hannebery Ryder and the loss of Roberton Dunstan and maybe Ross we will have entry of room to move within the salary cap ...... heck he might even sign for less just to play for us and with his bro
Just a matter of what it will cost in terms of DPs ....keep in mind he will be uncontracted as well at the end of next year so the DP price should be lower than for a contracted player

I'd be happy for the club to go all out. We know what we're getting and they don't come often.
Yes, we need midfielders 100% been saying it for yonks, but this is an exception. You also need to think about injuries, if Max is out injured then what? Just Membrey?

Re: The huge ? Ben King
I would love to get Bing in 2022 but there are a lot of talented players we could also get like Bont is out of contract in 2022.
Really the AFL would do anything to keep Bing in GC any amount of money bugger the salary cap it doesn't apply for them and they would love Max to go there so the AFL would Push the deal
What if we traded max king to GC for 2 first rounders 1 this year 1 next year and a 2 rounder this year or next year or a quality mid from GC instead of the 2 rounder. That would make it 2 first rounders this year and next year so we could go after the Bont and Hauge Hagen next year or who ever with all the picks and we could try and get dusty or Kelly or best mids available with all those picks we should do well.
What picks we have left we get kids and we hopefully rise up the ladder straight away instead of waiting another 50 years for a premiership I carnt wait that long.

Re: The huge ? Ben King
If he is going to come to us, because that is what he has said, then this year would make more sense for them if they already know.
We are going to finish higher up the ladder next year, so our pick this year is already going to be better.
He is also contracted, so they could get more, like 2 first rounds and a second round.
Uncontracted, then the ball is in our court more.
The longer he is up there, the longer they have on trying to keep him there, or the AFL will give him another offer too good to refuse.
It really comes down to what Ben wants. It will be speculation until he openly decides what he is going to do.

Re: The huge ? Ben King
Don’t be stupid. We already have 2 gun mids on our list. One is Jack Steele of course …and the other is Dan Hannabery
