Re: Tony Elshaug Criminal Negligence
He is a Melbourne person, and it wouldnt surprise if he duped us into recruiting McCartin ... knowing full well that the Demons would end up with a special player.
He couldnt be that dumb of a recruiter.... everyone knew Petracca was clearly the best young player ..." he didnt interview well" ...yeah sure.

Re: Tony Elshaug Criminal Negligence
I might be off course here, but didn't we draft Elshaug one year as a player and he refused to come to us?

Yeah c**k head let’s face it
Miss on Bont
Stuff up no 1 draft pick on Petracca
Anyway...won’t matter
We are now no 1 in the AFL for longest premiership drought
Woooo hoo
Finally best at something!!

Re: Tony Elshaug Criminal Negligence
Doesn’t that mean we are the worst, not the best?!
The Petracca decision was embarrassing
They won the premiership on the back of the drafts where they got
Viney, Petracca, Brayshaw, Oliver and Salem
Then recruited their key defensive posts and Ben Brown

They have recruited very well.
They have put together a very nice team and they still have Tomlinson to come back.

It is so important that players interview well.Vortex wrote: ↑Sat 25 Sep 2021 11:34pmEPIC...samoht wrote: ↑Sat 25 Sep 2021 11:30pm He is a Melbourne person, and it wouldnt surprise if he duped us into recruiting McCartin ... knowing full well that the Demons would end up with a special player.

When you are constantly losing that is vital because it is hard to find excuses.
When they win you win a premiership who cares how they interview.
Who let this fish brain make the decision ?

Re: Tony Elshaug Criminal Negligence
He joined Melbourne in 1979, moving to Essendon in 1984.
In that era players were "Zoned" to clubs.
If he had been in a St Kilda zone he would have needed a clearance from St Kilda.
But I suspect he was zoned to Melbourne.

Re: Tony Elshaug Criminal Negligence
I don't care what the rules are.
I want Bontempelli and Petracca.
Someone else can have Billings and McCartin.
And I'll pickup Treloar as well.

"Good Guy" policy remember.
Too many flogs float through our club and make asshat decisions like this.
It is just repeatedly our downfall.

Re: Tony Elshaug Criminal Negligence
No , I just checked the AFL Records.
In 1989, we drafted a Tony Elshaug whose club of origin was stated to be Collingwood at the time with Pick no. 29 in the preseason draft. He is listed to have played 137 games but none with the saints.
I do however remember him playing with the injectors and the dees.
As I remember he refused to come to us and retired instead.
Why the f*** we ever gave the prick an official gig with the club remains one of life's mysteries to me.

Re: Tony Elshaug Criminal Negligence
Every seems to forget that Ameet Bains was our wonderful List Manager at the time of the Petracca disaster. In my mind - he's as complicit as anyone in that absolute sh!t of a decision. AFAIC - Bains can get in the same bin as Trout.saynta wrote: ↑Sun 26 Sep 2021 12:06pmNo , I just checked the AFL Records.

Re: Tony Elshaug Criminal Negligence
He was never a recruiter. Burnt out under Lyon at the end of 2009 h&a. Didn't work during the final series.
So, he got gifted the head recruiter role.
Regularly picked up GOPS at high picks.
Only got turfed when Richo was. 8 years of management shambles has meant that some of us will never see a saints premiership in their lives.

Alan Richardson and Tony Elshaugh set this club back for decades, and our administration are just as culpable for not intervening earlier. Ratten et al have had to bring in ready made recruits from other clubs just to make us competitive.

Re: Tony Elshaug Criminal Negligence
Agree with this to a point. We absolutely had to improve immediately post Richo, fans, the club could not take any more of the same so for that, we couldn't afford to hit the draft again.Kick-it-lace-out wrote: ↑Sun 26 Sep 2021 1:54pm Alan Richardson and Tony Elshaugh set this club back for decades, and our administration are just as culpable for not intervening earlier. I don't however level as much blame on Richo as some here. The recruiting was terrible over his period and he had an atrociously poor team with little if any talent of note.
I blame the recruiting and list management more. Richo gave it his all and cared about this club while he was here - It didn't go well for him but he had all the right intentions and with a better list things may have been different.
That's my opinion anyway.

Yeah f*** Bains. What sort of a c*** is he. Left us for the Western Bulldogs. Glad he did. s*** person.
