Yep and the feelings are reciprocated too I understand.

Re: Assistant Coaches
Scarlett hates every club bar Geelong. Plus I hardly think his opinion as a player 10 years ago would cloud his judgement on clubs as an assistant. He has worked at the Bulldogs and completely invests in the club he is at, thats why he would be a good pick up.

That was an utter disgrace. Harvey handled it with dignity and class as usual but I always hated Scarlett after that too.saynta wrote: ↑Thu 16 Sep 2021 12:24pmDisagree. Re: Assistant Coaches
From heraldsun.com.au
"Saints target Pies’ development guru
St Kilda plans to put a greater emphasis on its development program next year and has approached Collingwood head of academy Damian Carroll about a potential move.
It comes as highly-rated former Lions midfield assistant Dale Tapping attracts serious interest from Essendon and Collingwood about potential roles for next season.
The off-field assistant coaching moves this season have already been significant with still plenty more movement to come.
If Carroll decides to move to Moorabbin after one year with the Magpies, it would reunite him with Saints coach Brett Ratten, with whom he worked at Hawthorn under Alastair Clarkson.
St Kilda is looking to appoint a full-time head of development, with the club keen to invest heavily in this area after the serious disruption to the second-tier level across the past two seasons.
Ratten told the club’s website recently he wanted someone to “own” the development space.
The Saints have already added former Cat Corey Enright to their assistant coaching panel."

Re: Assistant Coaches
Spot on. Went to school with him and played all our rep team cricket together - one of the best humans I know. The Hawks blokes still love him and were gutted when he got chopped last year.
I reckon this has got a bit of Roughy influence about it - they're very close

Re: Assistant Coaches
Coached by him
Best coach I’ve come across at local level, if anything too professional at that level. Went on to TAC Cup and VFL then AFL assistant which would’ve suited him better
VFL games record holder at Springvale
Captain of Springvale
Multiple B&F winner at VFL Level - even when aligned with StK
Dual VFL Premiership player

Re: Assistant Coaches
Does Mr Carroll's new title suggest it needs to be long term contract to enable the fruits of his program to show up. I guess every development coach inherits the good or bad legacy of others and takes time to make his/her own mark. Be interesting how Ben Long's game fronts up for 2022 season.
Feel a bit for Oscar C, a really good development coach might have made him into a good AFL player for us. Maybe. Maybe not.

Re: Assistant Coaches
Damian Carroll appears to have a very impressive CV and just the man to focus on getting the young blokes to become elite, another outstanding appointment by Simon Lethlean & Co to make our footy club successful.
One more A/C to be appointed, my hope, Chris Newman (Hawthorn), has juts committed to stay put, wonder if they'll look for another recently retired player like Roughie - any ideas??

Re: Assistant Coaches
I think one of McGlynn, Batchelor or Roughie will move to an assistant coaching role, i thought the club said there would be a new fitness guy, a new assistant and a new development coach and a shuffle of existing staff.Sanctorum wrote: ↑Thu 23 Sep 2021 12:04pm Damian Carroll appears to have a very impressive CV and just the man to focus on getting the young blokes to become elite, another outstanding appointment by Simon Lethlean & Co to make our footy club successful.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Assistant Coaches
This is outstanding, a quality bloke with a great football heritage and experience that will really add value to our list.
Fantastic that the club has recognised there was a hole in our structure that needed to be addressed and to target and get DC to come on board is an exciting outcome for the Saints.
Well done

Re: Assistant Coaches
Damien Carrol is a massive get for us. He actually gave coaching away last year after he was Covid-cut by the Hawks and was going to go back into teaching (he's a tertiary qualified teacher) but, such is his skill - the Pies on-boarded him mid/late-season.
To reef him out of that resource rich environment is a huge compliment to what we're putting together. Finally - a dedicated, proper development head.
Hopefully our new draftees will be properly developed until a dedicated full time resource rather than left to their own devices with a bit of help from a part-timer

Re: Assistant Coaches
We are getting a bit of a hawks look about us.
From the age.com.au
"Meanwhile, St Kilda confirmed on Thursday that they had signed Damian Carroll as the club’s head of development and learning. Carroll had spent one year on Collingwood’s coaching panel following a stint at Hawthorn, where he worked with Brett Ratten, David Rath and Jarryd Roughead, all currently part of the Saints’ football department.
“We’re really excited by what Damian can add to our football program,” Saints chief operating officer Simon Lethlean said.
“Damian’s had a long and successful career in developing footballers and we know that his experience with premiership sides will also be a great advantage for the club.
“The development of our younger players has never been more important with the impacts that COVID-19 has had on the pathway and state level competitions, and we believe Damian is the right person to lead this work.”
