Saints looking for running power
St Kilda list boss James Gallagher says the club has identified running power as a trait which they are lacking and will look to draft and develop over the off-season.
The Saints had a sub-par year to miss the eight after looking a genuine premiership hope in 2021 following a strong 2020, and Gallagher believes the club is lacking in the same area Grand Finalists Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs have been renowned for.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Josh Ward or Campbell Chesser.
Both Ratten & Gallagher have mentioned it this week and its more evidence they didnt believe the team were fit enough leading into the season.

Pity they didn't realise the need for speed before letting Hind go last year.

I remember when we recruited Clark & Coffield they were supposed to have a bit of toe . Not saying the are plodders but IMO neither are line breakers with their leg speed

Re: Saints looking for running power
Hind was out of contract and Essendon offered him more $$$$. Plus I'm sure Hind's dad got a new job that was very highly paid

and effective disposal, a bit more height and good decision makers. Perhaps everyone get a little stronger and do the 1%ers for your mates. Make tackles stick. We have a few prospects in mind for our 9th, 10th or 11th pick or whatever it turns out to be on the AFL draft algorithm. Might also go for a preseason that gets the squad fit. Mids to work better at contested ball gets and defensively as well as contribute a few goals. I think that covers it. Oh, find a spot for Josh Battle.

There is a guy plays for Dandy stingrays Mac Andrew 200cm CHB and can really run and mark.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Wed 15 Sep 2021 10:42pm and effective disposal, a bit more height and good decision makers. He is very light on though 78kg but that can be fixed with a few pre seasons check him out.

There's a fair amount on Andrew in another post -- "what we'll do with our 9th pick" or whatever it is similar.Saints58 wrote: ↑Wed 15 Sep 2021 11:21pmThere is a guy plays for Dandy stingrays Mac Andrew 200cm CHB and can really run and mark.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Wed 15 Sep 2021 10:42pm and effective disposal, a bit more height and good decision makers. We actually do need a CHB. It looks like Mac Andrew can do everything else as well.
And I mean make position and distribute like a gun midfielder, dominate the ruck, and clunk marks on the lead.

Re: Saints looking for running power
You don’t really draft a kid because we need a certain position now.
A kid we draft will be in his prime 5-10 years from now
Who knows what we’ll need at that point?!

Re: Saints looking for running power
The reason we always come back to comparing GT and Lyon is that they're the only two coaches we've ever had (in my memory at least) who've brought their own approach to the game. Never mind what the other clubs were doing, they wanted us to play their way. Every other coach - including the current incumbent - wants us to play just like whoever the hell is premier this season.

Re: Saints looking for running power
According to AFL.com.au he isn't 78kgs he is 70 kgs. That a huge difference plus he is touted as a ruck man who can play forward, not a defender which we need more. Not saying don't get him but if we do dont expect him to play anytime soon. in a perfect world Josh Gibcus comes our way but that just wont happenavid wrote: ↑Thu 16 Sep 2021 3:20amThere's a fair amount on Andrew in another post -- "what we'll do with our 9th pick" or whatever it is similar.Saints58 wrote: ↑Wed 15 Sep 2021 11:21pmThere is a guy plays for Dandy stingrays Mac Andrew 200cm CHB and can really run and mark.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Wed 15 Sep 2021 10:42pm and effective disposal, a bit more height and good decision makers. Re: Saints looking for running power
I took Gallagher's remarks as being a whack to some of the players we already have (think Clark, Coffield etc). And Matt Hornsby who rightly just got the ar$e for the crap pre-season fitness program that left so poorly prepared for the 2021 season.
I just really hope we don't fall into the trap of drafting excellent athletes who we then try and turn into footballers. Gimme a footballer any day - I'd rather have Paddy Ryder's small left toenail on our list before Rhys Stanley

Re: Saints looking for running power
Assuming he recovers well from his leg break, could Paton become a defensive winger with his speed, running power and disposal?saynta wrote: ↑Thu 16 Sep 2021 12:13pmPaton has a bit of toe too.Banger9798 wrote: ↑Wed 15 Sep 2021 9:02pmDecent pace but nothing special.bangaulegend wrote: ↑Wed 15 Sep 2021 8:33pm I remember when we recruited Clark & Coffield they were supposed to have a bit of toe .
