Clavarino delisted (according to Tony74)
According to Tony74 (who is usually very reliable).
Just thought it deserved it’s own thread.
Must say I thought he could have been given another year.

Sad, but not unexpected IMO. Unfortunately, I doubt his future career will go in the direction of Bruce or Hind.

Sad. Deserved another year on the basis of his efforts when given a senior chance.

Re: Clavarino delisted (according to Tony74)
Highmore has taken the one spot Clavarino would have had his eye on. Tall enough to play key position but lacks the physical strength to play against genuine key position players. It's a cruel game sometimes. I feel for those guys who have toiled hard and not realised their dreams. Must be pretty tough getting that tap on the shoulder.

I hope Clavarino gets picked up by someone else. I think he has potential.

Yeah unfortunate but not surprising.
What can we read into it? Does this mean the club has a recruit they can pull the trigger on for a key tall back!

It's on the Club's website now.
Oscar was delisted at the end of last season, from memory, then rookie listed. Could the Club do the same this season? I'd like to think so because I rate him. A slow developer but not a slow footballer. If not, best wishes Oscar.

I thought he had just turned the corner & started to look like he could cut it at AFL level but sadly the club obviously had a different view . He did take a long time to develop & I suppose they just ran out of patience & have other players in mind

would expect us to pick up another ready made tall defender, having discarded Carlisle and Clav.
I assume they have someone in mind

Yeah, get a 30 year-old with injury issues. Far better long term for the Club. What could possibly go wrong? Look at how well this type of recruiting strategy has worked for Geelong.Vortex wrote: ↑Mon 13 Sep 2021 8:54pmI wonderbangaulegend wrote: ↑Mon 13 Sep 2021 8:46pmDan Talia maybe?SuperDuper wrote: ↑Mon 13 Sep 2021 8:19pm would expect us to pick up another ready made tall defender, having discarded Carlisle and Clav.

Re: Clavarino delisted (according to Tony74)
Because of the list size reductions, the league allowed teams to put a couple of players on the rookie list without having to delist them. We put Clav and Joyce on the rookie list in that manner.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Mon 13 Sep 2021 8:00pmOscar was delisted at the end of last season, from memory, then rookie listed.

Looked ok for one of his games. The other games he looked lost for much of the game.
If you haven't made it after 4 years in the system you are unlikely going to make it.

Re: Clavarino delisted (according to Tony74)
Could he be rookied?
How does the process work to rookie a player on the senior list ..... guessing they have to be delisted first?
Probably won't happen but just throwing darts

Re: Clavarino delisted (according to Tony74)
You must have a seat on level 1 because from my seat on level 3 he looked OK. I wouldn't expect a bloke who has been delisted to poll too many Brownlow votes in his 5 game career, but he looked OK. He only played in games when we lost a defender through injury and were undermanned.

Re: Clavarino delisted (according to Tony74)
Actually, quite the contrary. His career has been largely injury free until this year.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Mon 13 Sep 2021 9:00pmYeah, get a 30 year-old with injury issues. Oh!
Daniel Talia is an all Australian defender. His job, at which he's been very effective, is to lockdown the best opposition key forward.
Hence St Kilda's interest in him.
I might add we are not the only club interested in him.
Getting a bit tired of this kind of talk. The same things were said when we recruited Paddy Ryder.

Re: Clavarino delisted (according to Tony74)
Very rough on Clav. I didn't think he looked out of place in any of his games. Loved the way he set the tone in his first game with a huge crunching tackle as his first involvement in a contest. Had 17 intercepts over his first 3 games. Even had 5 score involvements in those games which shows that he was involved in setting up scoring chains from defence. Used the ball at 75% and was pretty sound defensively.
I think perhaps the knock on him might be lack of explosive pace. He seems like he's in the Carlisle mould of someone who prefers to drift into the contest and intercept rather than a close checking defender. With that said, I definitely would have given the 22 year old 197cm key defender another year considering we still have the likes of Lonie, Kent and Hunter on the list. We desperately need to land a readymade key defender (or two) in the off season.

Re: Clavarino delisted (according to Tony74)
Feel for Clav, so many injury setbacks, but was nowhere near the level required to be a defender in a top 6 AFL team.
Wish him all the best, but I'll be amazed if he ends up at another AFL club.
Seems just another draftee that has to produce his very best to get a game at AFL level, but that's as far as it goes. Like Ed Phillips, Hugh Goddard, Doulton Langlands, Robbie Young, Bailey Rice, Brandon White, Lewis Pierce, Nathan Wright, Cameron Shenton, Josh Saunders, Brodie Murdoch, Tom Curren.... there's been so many over the last decade that just don't develop up to the next level.
