Mason Cox
Apologies if this had bobbed up elsewhere on the forum but the 'Scum is reporting that we're looking at signing up Cox. Aside from his 2018 final against Richmond, he's been mostly unremarkable. Can he ruck? Would you want him?

Re: Mason Cox
Only if one of the point posts was broken for at the Trevor Barker oval.
Even then, could he handle that job ?

Re: Mason Cox
We recruit him
That’ll be it for me, I’ll tap out!!!
It’ll prove once and for all what we probably knew… they have no idea!!!

Re: Mason Cox
Don't rate him as a forward. I don't know if he'd be of any use as a ruck back up. Tank may not be up to it. Plus he's being paid overs where he is, which is why they are keen to off-load him.
In short, he'd have to come cheap and be able to play in the ruck rather than up forward

Re: Mason Cox
I thought he'd be a chance to come to us. Makes complete sense but does it make good sense.

Re: Mason Cox
End of 2018 his stocks were high. Finals didn't phase him. Big marks and goals. 76 games in 7 years, a remarkable effort, but what happened in '19 and '20? Pies were not as generous or forgiving. Two quite games and out! I am guessing he didn't thrive in the seconds at the Pies. Then all the dissent at Collingwood. I suppose the new coach McCrae made the call?
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Monkhurst, Tony Francis and Sean Charles.
And Nicky Winmar gets chopped and ends up being more than handy at the Dogs, kicking 20-30 goals a season.
But Monky, Francis and Charles were all crippled with ruinous injuries well before we recruited them. Francis played 19 games and was pretty decent from what I have read (I wasn't watching footy by then. The others duds.
I don't think injury is a major problem for Cox with injury. Unfortunately for him, accidents to the throat and eye have ruined his seasons of late. But I don't know about knee, back, hammies etc., the type of footy specific injuries we make a habit of recruiting players with.
I wouldn't mind Cox, He's an honest player, albeit a limited one...BUT he can take a pack mark and kick accurately up to 35m out - a talent we sorely lack.

We are not that stupid?
Here's a much better option.

If this is the source - maybe keep your powder dry:
Sam Landsberger wrote: Some in club land also believe it would make sense for the Saints to consider recruiting Mason Cox (Collingwood), given Paddy Ryder will be 34 next season and Paul Hunter (out of contract) is every chance to join Shaun McKernan (retired) on the list of departures.

Re: Mason Cox
He would be an upgrade on Hunter but only marginally, would prefer we target others even if it costs 2022 draft picks.

Re: Mason Cox
If he could Ruck they would have given him a go at Colliewobbles.
They need to dump his salary, so could pick him up relatively cheap.
Cant see a position for him.
No tank
Cant ruck
out of form
Very limited positional player.
