Umpiring was OK. The ARC was a joke. Looks like Marcus Bontempelli has a calf and will be out, along with Cody Weightman with concussion.

Umps tried to help them get over the line in last year's EF from memory.

Has to be something in it. The WB games are nearly unwatchable due to the umpiring. It’s just that bad. I hate Brisbane and tonight I ended up feeling bad for them. It’s cheating nothing more.

The umpiring was fine tonight i thought, mind you, i don't watch the umpires.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Finals. AFL. 2021
Port would have loved that...to see the Bullies absolutely getting drained of every drop of energy, suffer a massive late injury, a potential concussion ruling and knowing that the dogs have to fly across the country to Perth, hole up, and then fly back to Adelaide to play them..Meanwhile the Port boys are chillin' on the back deck at home with a barbie. You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Finals. AFL. 2021
How many times did you see Bob Murphy or Easton Wood (or these day Marcus Bontempelli) remonstrating with umpires?
Bevo got his grounding and learnt about respecting umpires from the best coach of the modern era. The University of Hawthorn is where they were taught to do everything in your control to make sure you Do Not Give the umpires an excuse to dislike you.
It starts with your coach and your on field leaders. They go out of their way to treat the umpires in a better manner than their opponents. It's drilled into every player to use each moment that they come into contact with an umpire as a moment to show their admiration and respect. It's subtle but it works.

So what your saying is the umpires cheat.

No
I'm saying they are not robots and they are not insects (I don't think maggots have feelings )
But it's more than that. The players and coaches set the benchmark for all lower and junior leagues.
Surely even the dumbest of the dumb need to realise you cannot show disrespect in any way. It'll cost you like it did for our team under Thommo, and for individuals like Schnieder and Milne and more recently Carlisle
Take it one step further and see what happens when you openly display disrespect with a smattering of aggression. Toby Greene says hello

Umpires are there to adjudicate the rules not to make friends. If it’s there it’s a free whether or not they like or dislike the player or club. If k not it’s cheating.

OK, be stubborn. Disregard all the evidence that points to umpire bias.
Keep thinking that they are not human and they will not favour certain players
Argue with an ump and see how far it gets you
Show disrespect or anger or be a smartarse and continually backchat the umps and see how far it gets you

If it’s not it’s play on. If a umpire sees a WB player drop the ball and he thinks he never remonstrates I will allow it. It’s cheating.

Re: Finals. AFL. 2021
WB always seem to get the “rub of the green “ and it’s not the blatant frees but the 50/50 judgement calls that get them home.
One year will be our year

Re: Finals. AFL. 2021
It’s going to be close to impossible to have 3 different umpires on the ground thinking exactly the same and adjudicating every single decision exactly the same as each other…and exactly the same as CURLY
You’re saying that all footy followers and all people should think and perceive every football incident exactly the same and every human on earth needs to think like you do
Have you ever thought that maybe you’re the one who is wrong?!?
You want a world where we are all identical. It’s not going to happen. Life is complex. You can't have everything in life be that simple
You want robots to replace humans

Re: Finals. AFL. 2021
While we are observing:
I think Dan McKenzie got a bad rap by some (coaching staff?) after being put on Cameron and Betts by Richo a few seasons ago. Cameron is highly skilled quick silver and Betts was very handy at the time. Not sure how Easton Wood quietened Charlie after quarter time, perhaps team coaching (?). Anyway Wood is a star, if aging, and Cameron just made him look pedestrian early.
I think we are good enough to put up respectable performances against this years #4 - #8 teams - conveniently ignoring the floggings we got from Essendon and Doggies when we were off our tucker - but need a couple more elements to be serious contenders (doh!), like a never give up/give in ruthless spirit and as we all know another athletic tall defender and back up ruck.
As much as I admire Brad Hill's skills I find it hard to see us winning a final with him playing half back. The successful teams have really hard nuts in those positions and they are very skilled as well.
Beverage is just about best coach going around (?) E.g. see how Schache has become a footballer under his coaching and Doggies can still win a game after being dominated in the ruck contests by a team with Neale and Zorko in the square.
Daniher isn't much chop in tough games. Fair/unfair?
Wow of a game.

All you want is umpiring without bias. One team cannot continually get the rub of the green. Commentators and the media are even calling it out now. WB are not just getting 50/50 calls they’re getting preferential treatment.

Re: Finals. AFL. 2021
I wholeheartedly agree with you scollop in terms of respect the official, trying to limit displaying your emotion to a decision. Certainly won't rub an umpire with thin skin up the wrong way.
That said, there must be something wrong with the rules of our game when our on field umpires, who are all on six figures, cannot sing from the same prayer book as officials.
We have too many grey / interpretive rules to allow any consistency in human decisions. You are correct that those who are more understanding of umpires have every chance of getting more favourable decisions.
However it also hasn't stopped or harmed decisions being made in the favour of the very demonstrable Selwood & Dangerfield.
Young Highmore needs to pull his head in with regards to trying to tell the umps how they should umpire or critiquing their decisions.

Re: Finals. AFL. 2021
In the last two minutes, there was one free paid. A centre ruck infringement - crucial as always, especially when scores are level! This was correct, as Oscar McInerney used his knee to keep Tim English from the contest. After that, there were two other possible frees, neither paid. The first was a push in the back to Laitham Vandermeer, with Brandon Starcevich pushing him forward and landing in the left side of his back. Should have been paid but the fact that a point was scored perhaps deflected the umpires' attention. The second was deliberate out of bounds - where the ball was kicked by both players in their running movement and then was perhaps hit onto the boot of Duryea by Cameron's hand. No free - a correct decision.
