Dunstan
Interesting to hear that he will not be offered a new contract. This means fundamentally he is leaving as a Delisted free agent we get nothing.
There us clearly more to this story and usually the truth is somewhere in between but giving away a bets 25 player at age 26 seems crazy. Surely they could have made an ordinary offer and then offered to do a trade with a club of choice and got something in return.
Last club to do such a move I can recall was GC when they let Lyons walk to Brisbane and look how well he has done there.
It just seems illogical on the surface to go down this path - not to get rid of him - but for nothing? Shane Wakelin mark II

Re: Dunstan
Well that's strange even foolish even a 4th round pick would have to be better than nothing. His current form was good enough so he must have really pi--ed off someone to not even get an offerolder saint wrote: ↑Wed 25 Aug 2021 12:04pm Interesting to hear that he will not be offered a new contract. Re: Dunstan
Agree and you dont have to use a pick if Salary cap issue. Unless they promised to let him walk where he wanted when he got dropped early in the year on the basis he played and helped younger guys.bangaulegend wrote: ↑Wed 25 Aug 2021 12:09pmWell that's strange even foolish even a 4th round pick would have to be better than nothing. Re: Dunstan
I understand that Dunstan is now a Free Agent, so very little trade compensation to us.
At 26 yrs, he has played well in the last half of this year. I wonder if it comes down to a list choice between he and Seb Ross?

Re: Dunstan
Maybe they have had informal talks and the amount we are willing to pay is a long way off what he wants. Surely he is worth even s*** money on the list as apposed to being delisted alternately is the plan to cut costs to create salary space?

Re: Dunstan
He's already a Crows player is my guess.
According to earlier media reports he was shown told back in round 1 he wouldn't be at the club next year.
I have already moved on and thankfully the club has too.

Re: Dunstan
Played his guts out in the seconds, for a long, long time.
Get's a go. Dud...back he goes...
Repaets the effort.
Gets another go.
Is almost BOG..redemption..and has a great month...
Does he know - did he know - at that point, it would be for bread crumbs?
I heard on the radio this morning..in a rather pissed off mood .(planned summer motorbike trip scuppered by COVID again)...that speed is 'now everything'. Bulldogs getting thrown out of the kennel for lacking it...so I ask, maybe, Dunny's disposal skills are tolerable for the head honchos, but lack of burst leg speed is not.
He certainly seems switched on during games.

Is better and more valuable than a lot of players on our list.

Re: Dunstan
A lot of those players are also gone. It's a fair bet the rest are considered more valuable by the saints.
You can't blame Dunstan for going or the Saints for letting him go.
Far better to get games into Bytel.

Re: Dunstan
Assume we are delisting him to make it easier for him to find a new home?
Because now we don't get any draft compo

Re: Dunstan
Thought he played some excellent football in the second half of the season. The reality I guess is that the club had his papers stamped some time ago … for whatever reason. Preferred others in the position he played and maybe not considered versatile/quick enough to slot in elsewhere.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out. He’s just entering his prime and has a lot more good football to play.

Re: Dunstan
Assume nothing with Draft / Trade issues - May be that behind the scenes a deal for a player is involved but that they think the AFL may not approve it - so you de-list B1 and I de-list B2 and we can do our own negotiationsViscount Jeremiah wrote: ↑Wed 25 Aug 2021 1:32pm Assume we are delisting him to make it easier for him to find a new home?

Also - if we offered him a contract at his acceptable terms and he does not find a trade - we are stuck with him
A good sign that we are actually thinking about 2022 and beyond in a positive and aggressive manner

Re: Dunstan
If you're slow and you give the ball directly to the opposition 6 times every game, then you're not as valuable as someone quicker who gets it a bit less than you, but kicks the ball to advantage and doesn't make woeful unforced errors.
One of my biggest gripes is league footballers with appalling disposal. I wish Dunstan well and hope he gets to 200 games elsewhere, but I won't miss those frequent episodes of him kicking the ball forward directly to our opponent's advantage ending up in a goal for them rather than a goal for us

Re: Dunstan
Hard to believe they would just delist him now when even 3rd or 4th round compo would help with points for NGA players, etc. Makes no sense, do we have another FA lined up? Something going on.

Re: Dunstan
A pretty clear example of appalling list management.
Say what you like about Dunstan's kicking or attitude, but what he managed to do in the second half of the season was exceptional.
To not have him signed up already is dreadful. And if he was never going to sign - why were we playing him ahead of Bytel etc? Literally, those are your options.
But as usual, the club will leave us in the dark, wallowing in their own inability to understand development (telling him before R1 that he wasn't in the plans?!) has ensured our cycle of mediocrity continues.
The guy had the tools to be a Matt Priddis clone and we couldn't figure out how to make it happen. Now it's happening, he's out the door. Our football department has so much to answer for but as usual, they never do.

Re: Dunstan
I have no doubt if Dunstan was as good as what your saying someone would have offered us a trade last season. Clearly he doesn't do or can't do what's required.evertonfc wrote: ↑Wed 25 Aug 2021 2:29pm A pretty clear example of appalling list management.

Re: Dunstan
Wasn't a reference to last season - it was to this season, which is where his value has escalated dramatically.
Players go up and down in value all the time. Seb Ross's value, for example, has plummeted after his past two seasons.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Re: Dunstan
Was Dunstan a part of our future...no
Was he going to win the saints a premiership..no.
Should he have continually been picked ahead of a developing Bytel...no.
Who has more upside Bytel or Dunstan...Bytel.
Was there room in the saints team for Dunny and Bytel...obviously not.
Did Dunstan earn his keep these past two years...no.
Dud Dunstan's stuff ups cost us the game against Geelong....They didn't help.
Are St Kilda right in delisting Dunstan....yes.

Re: Dunstan
Seems like a dumb move.
See what someone would give.
Certainly a third round pick would not be out of the question.
Maybe Crows have offered a 2 year contract as a RFA and we're just not even willing to play the game at all.
We would get no compo for a 2 year deal.

Re: Dunstan
Dunstan the last remaining evidence of one of the worst trade decisions for Stkilda in this Century
McEvoy for Savage and picks which were Goddard and Dunstan.
We since then endured :
Longer
Hickey
Holmes
Pierce
McKernan
Hunter
Marshall and Ryder being the exceptions.
