Is this an annual discussion? I can’t recall this before.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Tue 24 Aug 2021 8:07amNo - FFSaxcellence wrote: ↑Tue 24 Aug 2021 7:21amThe only way it doesn’t affect the Saints is if there is a Pies pick before 9 that gets wiped off due to the bidding.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Mon 23 Aug 2021 12:35pmAn early start to this annual discussion.axcellence wrote: ↑Mon 23 Aug 2021 9:24am The first pick will be pushed back anyway with Nick Daicos going to the Pies as pick 1.
The numbers may change - but the pick does not - Nick Daicos is not available to us (or anyone else aside from Collingwood) therefore it does not affect the draft numbers. You may as well call Father/Son and Academy etc picks as 1FS and 1A and retain the #1 mantle. Fathers Son picks have the same relevance as the Mid Season draft picks - they do not affect the draft order - saying we have pick 10 - is still pick 10 - even if the moniker of it is 11 - we are still picking what we consider is the 10th best player in the draft that is available to us.
Otherwise, North’s pick 1 becomes pick 2 on bid match for Nick Daicos.
The only way it DOESN'T affect St Kilda is if Collingwood DON'T match - then Norths pick becomes Nick Daicos and we get the 8th best talent when we were expecting the 9th. There is no way Collingwood wont match the bid.
No Father Son Picks
1 - Player A
2 - Player B
3 - Player C
4 - Player D
5 - Player E
6 - player F
7 - Player G
8 - Player H
9 - Player I
With Nick Daicos going at #1
1 - Nick Daicos
2 - Player A
3 - Player B
4 - Player C
5 - Player D
6 - Player E
7 - player F
8 - Player G
9 - Player H
10 - Player I
Aside from the moniker of #9 vs #10 how does Nick Daicos affect our draft position? We still get Player I or the 9th best talent AVAILABLE TO US?????
Seriously people - My name is still Sainter_Dad whether I am 59 years old or 60
At present I am the 3rd oldest at work - someone else comes to work that is older than me - I simply become the 4th oldest - I am still the same age.
THE DRAFT ORDER DOES NOT CHANGE WITH THE INSERTION OF FATHER SON - ACADEMY PICKS as they are surplus picks.
Concessional Picks - FA Compensation Picks - that changes the order as a talent that WAS available to you is now not available as say Richmond (if they lost Dusty to FA) has had 2 picks when they used to have 1
Why is Daicos not available to us?
If nobody picks him in the first 8 picks, we can name him at 9.
If Collingwood doesn’t match, we get him. If they do we get bumped to pick 10 because 9 players have already been chosen.

Absolutely an annual discussion - there is usually people whining about how our pick will go from 9 to possibly 12 etc.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Tue 24 Aug 2021 4:13pm

Daicos is absolutely available to us if Collingwood do not match, however:
- Son of a Club Legend
- Touted to go in the top 3
- Collingwood can get him for 36, 41, 44, 45 - plus a few places slipped in 2022 depending on where he goes
North NEED to nominate him 1st to ensure that it costs Collingwood the most.
Imagine Roo's kids touted to go at 1-3 - do you think we would let them slip to 9th?

So you’re saying pick 9 becomes pick 10.

No - I am saying that the 9 best talent (in our opinion) will be our pick - regardless of if it is at Pick 9 or Pick 12 - Unless Compensation picks fall before our pick.

Well I reckon if 9 players are picked before your go, you will get the 10th best player. We can call it pick 9 if we like but there's still 9 players picked beforehand.

The bit that people don't seem to grasp is that Nick Daicos is not available to us.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Tue 24 Aug 2021 4:52pm Well I reckon if 9 players are picked before your go, you will get the 10th best player. We can call it pick 9 if we like but there's still 9 players picked beforehand.

When we get to our pick there will be at least 8 players not available to us. I’m not sure why Daicos is different to anyone else.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Tue 24 Aug 2021 5:21pmThe bit that people don't seem to grasp is that Nick Daicos is not available to us.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Tue 24 Aug 2021 4:52pm Well I reckon if 9 players are picked before your go, you will get the 10th best player. I didn't want to retire but come Friday, that's it. I've had a few months at home and am getting used to the idea. As part of my recuperation I set myself one job a day to tackle around the property. At the rate I am going I'll still have plenty to do well past my 100th birthday! The Fireman wrote: ↑Tue 24 Aug 2021 11:05pmAt 60Teflon wrote: ↑Tue 24 Aug 2021 9:59pmBefore 60 Firey??The Fireman wrote: ↑Tue 24 Aug 2021 3:38pmlol, sorry mate didn't know about the mortgage.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Tue 24 Aug 2021 3:19pmIf that was directed at me - happy to do so - but are you gonna tip in for the mortgage??
