Considering the number of significant leads we coughed up, the number of times we faded in last quarters after synchronised breathing, and the number of times we didn't show up at all mentally, i'd say yeah, the headshrinkery didn't count for much.

but they 'centred themselves' at 3/4 time
'n kicked 7 straight
headshinkery indeed
practice softly focussing on your out breath
for a week
'n improving its execution
then it will be an actual experience
you could discourse on
don't be worrying about your in breath
... it takes care of itself

Re: Assistant Coaches
Can't believe there are blokes on here defending the synchronised breathing malarkey.
No other club does it and Brad Johnson for one said he'd be embarrassed if he was forced to do it.
Considering there's zero evidence that's effective -- in fact, quite the opposite (considering our performance this year) -- then ditch it.
Do a motivational speech instead. Do stretches. Do anything.

Motivational speech?!
I hardly ever listened to them, honestly could barely remember the coaches rants.

Re: Assistant Coaches
Then do nothing.
Combined with pre-match meditating, the cuddle toom where players hug each other and tell each other they'e got their backs, and the synchronised breathing perfomative art, I say the club is in the thrall of new age snake oil salesmen.
Ever seen THE NATURAL? The baseball club hires a hupnotist who compels the team to imagine the game and Robert Redford gets up and walks out. As he should.
Can you imagine this sort of nonsense going on under Clarko or Ross Lyon?

Clearly, if people don't understand something they see, they'll criticise it.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Assistant Coaches
You can say you don't care but I would argue that focusing on the head space and validating emotional responses has unintended consequences.
You end up with a team that's liable to not perform if it doesn't feel triggered. If everything isn't 100% simpatico.
Exhibit A. St Kilda. c**k of the walk one week, feather duster the next. Unable to string together more then three wins. Vulnerable to coughing up huge leads.

Re: Assistant Coaches
I think Richo had the team motivated in '15 until mid-'17. I think we did turn up and try hard every week regardless of the place and situation. Then something happened.Waltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Mon 23 Aug 2021 11:31pm You can say you don't care but I would argue that focusing on the head space and validating emotional responses has unintended consequences.

perhaps the team psych thing is a bit of a 'crap shoot'? And then the various personalities of the players..must play a role.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Though he'll more likely be at Lyon's side guiding the Blues into a GF within two years.

Re: Assistant Coaches
From Stavro on BF -
We are apparently restructuring the fitness department. Wallis parted ways on good terms. Hornsby was let go.
The rumour I heard early this morning was Russell from Carlton to lead a restructured department.
Harvey isn’t coming for those wanting it.
Note: Andrew Russell is another of the staff who worked at Hawthorn throughout their golden era.

All the love for the tosser is hard to understand!
77 more games and will pass Eade as the coach with most games without a flag, hope Carlton give him the four years required!

Re: Assistant Coaches
Brendan Lade should be let go as well or at the very least re-deployed elsewhere as our midfield work was really poor this year. If we didn't have Steele then we would've been belted every week.

For the love of god can we please not turn this thread about our current Assistant Coaches into another pi$$ing contest between Two coached who departed more than 10 years ago. Re: Assistant Coaches
Ratts did not seem to bring in his own team of assistants/medicos when he took over the job, many do.
Perhaps he did not want to rock the boat too much given the transition circumstances. Hope the new personnel and roles bear fruit.
I think more than hope they will now he has his own chosen crew to work with. Good to know the Club has had these moves in mind for a while and is acting quickly.
Lade to be reassigned?
Be interesting if the assistants and "high performance" manager stay in AFL if they want to.

Mnnn...
...presses pause....
...but cannot resist the urge to say something about Lyon and GT.
Don't forget that GT was a caretaker...that actually worked!
Lyon is like Richard Nixon...the guy seems like a moaning and scheming demon ...can't do a thing right..
Look at Clarko..
have people already forgotten his bald faced lying to the media and fans?
Of course...he's a hero who has been hard done by..
Ross, on the other hand.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!
