For a top ten pick draft pick poor billy was disappointing - I wonder what he is doing nowadays

He was on the outer well before his concussion - which you should recall occurred playing in the VFL. He simply didnt apply himself with any professionalism.

Pretty loose unit in my experience:
I was witness to Gardiner and Stevie Lawrence mid season pissed out of their heads, at a StKilda bar.

Stevie was completely of his head and trying to start a fight, Gardiner couldn't even stand up to intervene.

Patrick Lipinski would be worth consideration if we could do a deal with the dogs. I think he has good upside, at 190cm is a good size and due to the digs depth not getting as much of a go as he would elsewhere.
We need to make some midfield changes and he would add to our depth and bring something different to the current Dunston, Ross mix.

I'm still very keen for us to get another senior FF who can:
- mentor King
- draw a defender
- mark in contest
- run off defenders

Tom Lynch on a 2 year deal, might be fairly economical. Proven scorer, great mentor and is a handy mark

Under manned team looked OK against Cats but a lot of work needed in the off season, need to cut the geriatrics in Frawley and McKernan, retire Carlisle and Geary delist Kent, Lonie, Joyce and Hunter they are not AFL standard. Hopefully get some compensation for Billings, one faint heart in Hill is enough, move on the ball butchers in Ross and Dunstan through trade or free agency. Wood and Clavarino and Webster retained as back up replaced in team by Paton, Highmore, Clark and Connolly, Gresham to add pace although his disposal is not great, another year for Paddy, recruit Chol as back up ruck KPD (free agency), giving Heath time to develop. Persevere with Bytel and Byrnes they have a bit of upside. Hopefully we can improve our position in the draft, and stock up on quick skilled young players using every method available that is national draft, rookie draft, preseason draft, supplementary and mid season drafts and hopefully the recruiting staff can lose their mediocrity and find some gems

Max Lynch from Collingwood would my choice as a backup ruckman capable of stepping up when Paddy retires. He hasnt played a lot of footy at AFL level but when he has, he has done well. People have mentioned he is playing VFL for Collingwood so why would he be any good, the response is he is more a ruckman who rests forward than the opposite. Collingwood have Grundy as the main ruckman and Cameron & Cox who mostly are their chosen key forwards, so Lynch misses out. Lynch is out of contract and has been reported as looking at options, so if he didnt cost too much trade wise he would be a good pick up.

That would just mean not getting games into a player like Sharman.

Asa club we do not yet have the players to be a Top 4 Team, BUT we do have a good group of younger players . This gives us a platform where recruiting just the right mix of RIGHT young kids plus older players (including players previously passed over like Highmore, Wilkie, Sharman) who can play quite a number of years can see us getting better and better.

Now Paddy has been huge for us, but last recruiting period we got too many gap fillers that ultimately cannot improve and as it turned out did not even contribute immediately (McKernan, Frawley, Hunter). Wood at least showed promise, though he was at least only 27.

Now there is perhaps a case for a key defender. But up forward as we already have Membrey I would rather keep getting games into Sharman and Battle that Lynch.

A true gun mid to go with Steele is what we most need. Unfortunately it is most unlikely that we can get a ready made one from another club. This means growing our own.

Our recruiting last time round smacked way too much of thinking we were a true contender already, and so too many back up players were brought in.

Our focus needs to be more medium term we our priority is to find good talent that can play with the good young talent that we already have. This means that we need to keep churning through players to find the diamonds. Recruiting gap-fillers like Hunter is just pointless given where our list is at. And while Lynch would probably play good football in 2022, ultimately it will hold us back.

PS: Our mid year pick ups in Heath and Sharman were both great pick ups. Ultimately neither might make it, but if we keep doing that we will find players who will be in our best 22 for the longterm.

If Dunstan goes .... thoughts on Matt Crouch as a RFA?

He is a contested ball beast which we are seemingly lacking going by the Cats game

He is only 26 so should be coming into his prime

He and his brother were the Crows engine room in their push for the Premiership in 2017 albiet slightly younger

He has had some groin issues this year but if he gets back fit I reckon he would be an upgrade on Dunstan and he wouldnt cost picks ...... like his brother last year just salary cap

Midfield of Steele, Crouch brothers & Jones with Clark, Bytel, Gresh & Byrnes to rotate through

If we can pick up our NGA's outside the top 20, Im starting to think this years draft/s will set us up for years ahead. It is a strong midfield draft so if we can get 3 or 4 quality mids plus a couple of talls our list should improve no end.

Nah. Desperately need to draft 18 year olds. Have been slack with that for several years.

I'm probably dreaming but if we snagged a 2nd round pick for Dunstan to get us into that round, would Freo accept Pick 9 for Cerra?

You’d think Cerra has already agreed to be elsewhere next season.
