Of the list, Kent has to be first to go. Even before Paul Hunter!!

That is a big call but in moving forward as a club I hope both are thanked for their services & we wish them well in whatever they chose to do next year

It's an easy call.
Kent is 6th in line for a small forward/mid position. He's behind Gresham, Butler, Higgins, Long and arguably Lonie. Long's role is different to a degree, as he's played as a defensive forward primarily, with scoring an added bonus! Lonie attempts this role, but is too light/small to effect it and Kent doesn't even do that even though his bigger!
PH is the 3rd ruck in line behind Ryder and Marshall.

Surely he goes at seasons end! The only thing that might save him is the club not wanting to turn over too many players in one year. If that's the case he will get a minimal contract playing at Sandringham.

Nah, the moderators will never do that.

Ratts seems to like Kent so i wouldn't be surprised if the Kent gets another year.

I think you're correct Impatient one. They will decide on how big of a turnover their list can handle taking into account age & position demographics. Some one year deals may be put on the table.

I think he will likely get an extension
Ratts has been playing him higher up the ground recently so that he is not in direct competition with the small forwards. For Kent, he is actually staying on the track now. Must be about the most consecutive games he has played.
If we are to move on 8 or 9 players, he may well survive the cut as a depth player.
Big game for him this weekend.

McKernan, Carlisle already gone
Alabakis, Roberton, Lonie, Frawley, Dunstan?, Ross?, Billings?

That's a big turnovet

Put that contract down, Kent.

Contracts ARE FOR CLOSERS.

Has timed his run to perfection.
He does not deserve another contract, but will get one

There is enough to cull from the list, and we need some depth.

I was not a fan, but when you're already cutting the list by a fair margin, I think he stays 1 year on a minimal contract.

Unless we think there are some prospects in the state leagues.

He's the ultimate downhill skier - which is unfortunate, because he has some weapons that I really like. That kicking penetration is really something.

But it's everything else that haunts him. The indecision. The one-way running. The zero defensive pressure. The bad decisions under pressure. The refusal to crack into packs. The ordinary contested marking. The missed goals in key moments. The poor passing. The need to kick everything with that wide arc, which makes it hard for him to move it on quickly.

We gave him a three-year deal, a massive gift to a player who really hasn't added much. I had high hopes for him because of his kicking and eye for goal. But I think injuries and a lack of game time stilted his development. The modern game - quick, hard, fast, explosive - doesn't suit him (I originally thought he was explosive, but that seems to have left his game). But he could kick 50 goals in the VFL next year.

Given where we're at, and what he brings, and his age profile (ie: he won't improve from this level) I can't make a case for him being on the list next year. If it was between him and offering a deal to Tom Lynch, there's no question in my eyes who would give you more both on field and around the Club (Lynch has great cultural value and leadership skills, Kent has none of the kind) over the next two years.

With Sharman coming through as well, I'm happy to release him. I'm pleased he played well today but prior to this one, he went goalless in five of his past six games in 2021.

Will not happen, and for one I'm glad. Will be a good back up player next year and not on much coin either,

We'll see what happens. His improvement would have to be on the same scale as Webster's and McKenzie's - mature players who lifted significantly in 2021 - to justify your ambition for him to stay on the list.

I hope that he does something similar.

Yep, we will see.

Stood up today when he was needed. Didn't see any of the faults you mentioned. Tomorrow, I will have a good look at the replay with special interest in Kent.

A great summation by everton. Watching today's game again won't give you that insight. The question is, was today's game an outlier, if so, can Kent lift to make today's game a consistency, as McKenzie has proven?
