Re: Max King Done
Of course it was...
Taking a potentially once in a lifetime prospect, that at one point had question marks regarding durability, and taking them on the road to one of the toughest places to win, whilst they were carrying an injury that severely effected their mobility, ability to compete etc is just an idiotic move born out of desperation.
Shows a complete lack of faith for others on the list... would have rather gone a forward down, put the extra onus on Membrey and Cooper then played a guy like Bytel who deserved a shot.
HOPEFULLY King hasn't aggravated anything further... but this kind of BS is what destroyed Luke Ball, Justin Koschitzke and pbly others from really reaching their potential.

Re: Max King Done
Battle of Okinawa. April 1945. Japan knows it is all or nothing, last ditch effort. They sail the battleship Yamato towards Okinawa. The most powerful battleship in the world. They know it will be swarmed and rendered useless at the end of the battle or more likely, during it. But it might still kick a punch, because what is there to lose? Keeping it in port to ‘protect’ it is folly. So they intend to sail it to Okinawa and ram it into a beach and use it as a stationary fortress, guns blazing, until it is silenced.
So it sails
Causes a stir, and is duly sunk before it even reaches the shore.
Maybe Max was our Yamato. Highly risky, but with big guns,
When he came back on, he was done, but like the Japanese plan, he drew a lot of attention.
Ok…it is BS…I’m sunk. Our season goes, bubble, gurgle, over and out…our last message from the bunker…long live the King!
So we finish.

Re: Max King Done
Would be ok if big Maxy was made of metal, but he's not is he? And if you have a good system...1 injured soldier is replaced by a fit one aren't they?shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sun 15 Aug 2021 12:21am Battle of Okinawa. April 1945. I agree with skeptic.
The coaches and the leaders need to trust all players/ all soldiers. As well as Cooper and Skunk, DMac is ok for a contested mark or 2. Buckets Higgins is a pretty good lead and mark for his size and Superman (The Man of Steele) is also handy when he's resting in the forward line

No, not now. Silly move to play him when he would have been more than useful against the shockers.

Re: Max King Done
That’s kind of why he’s opinion on the matter isn’t that worthwhile… no disrespect to the big man but he wouldn’t have wanted to let his team mates down especially with a finals birth on the line
Very few players seem to be able to make the distinction between what they want/obligation and what’s best

Re: Max King Done
Totally agree. When will the club learn that playing half fit players always back fires and its been going on at St Kilda for as long as I can remember. They are very slow learners at the club. Whats the saying 'only a fool makes the same mistake twice'. Whats that make people at our football club.

We had to win this game to have any chance of playing finals. A half fit Max King is better than McKernan / Hunter / Allison.

Unfair to include Allison. He is still a boy learning his trade.,Agree with you on the other two.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 15 Aug 2021 3:32pm We had to win this game to have any chance of playing finals. A half fit Max King is better than McKernan / Hunter / Allison.

You will never win games of footy by playing personnel who are not fully fit.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 15 Aug 2021 3:32pm We had to win this game to have any chance of playing finals. A half fit Max King is better than McKernan / Hunter / Allison.

Re: Max King Done
Max now up to 3rd in the AFL for both total and average contested marks.
Equal with Naughton, on 49. Or 2.45 per game. He’s now only 1 goal behind Naughton as well.

No player is fully fit at the end of a season.damienc wrote: ↑Sun 15 Aug 2021 9:34pmYou will never win games of footy by playing personnel who are not fully fit.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 15 Aug 2021 3:32pm We had to win this game to have any chance of playing finals. Maybe Baldock should not have come on in the last round of 1966.

Re: Max King Done
So you're comparing the Geelong game where King played injured to the last round of 1966, the season where Baldock played injured and we won our one and only premiership? Yeah right.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Mon 16 Aug 2021 7:41amNo player is fully fit at the end of a season.damienc wrote: ↑Sun 15 Aug 2021 9:34pmYou will never win games of footy by playing personnel who are not fully fit.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 15 Aug 2021 3:32pm We had to win this game to have any chance of playing finals. Yes. By your logic, Baldock should not have played and we miss the finals in 1966.damienc wrote: ↑Mon 16 Aug 2021 8:39amSo you're comparing the Geelong game where King played injured to the last round of 1966, the season where Baldock played injured and we won our one and only premiership? Re: Max King Done
King plays like he has in the past 4 (injury aside)
He has been as dominant as you can get
Contested marking numbers are through the roof!!!!

Re: Max King Done
It's delicate line to tread & desperate times require desperate measures but rule of thumb don't play injured players because in most situations it looks bad for the player & the club when it doesn't work out .Yes there are exceptions to the rule but 90% of the time the rule of thumb is usually right IMOkosifantutti wrote: ↑Mon 16 Aug 2021 11:08amYes. Re: Max King Done
I can only vaguely remember Baldock being 19th man at the final match in 1966 (cause I was a kid), can anybody remind me the nature of his injury?
