Again that era of 1991-92 derailed by a lack of money in key times to get what we needed to win a flag.
We were 1 key backman short in 92 we were offered Tony Campbell who did quite well against Plugger but we couldnt afford him and he went to the Bulldogs.
Players like Adrian Fletcher & Dale Kickett were lost due to $$ after 92 & we fell away quickly you can see why Plugger wanted to leave after seeing the lack of ambition.
$$$ some stupid management & plain bad luck has cost this club several Premierships.
Why did Ken Sheldon go in ‘93?

If you can accept that some influentials and officers of a club do not have winning a premiership as the main priority but personal interests and vendettas then some seemingly illogical decisions can possibly be understood.
The cliché that a premiership is a whole of Club effort - including us supporters a likkle - is true which makes what some successful clubs have done very impressive because just assembling a premiership contending playing group is hard enough.
Clarko, clearly a master coach, has had to battle Kennett almost every step which makes him exceptional. Strong mind to put up with Jeff's constant white anting because he is a formidable enemy. Kennett probably thinks he has finally won, but lets see. Hawks in 2030 will be saying why did Clarko go in '21.
I think Ratts is very strong and charmingly strategic and believe he will improve us markedly from now by getting the whole Saints mob behind him.

Agree about the loss of
Fletcher & Kickett - they went on to be guns
We also lost Gilbert McCadam (Bris) Rice (Carl) Craven (Brisbane)
Not sure what happened to Dean Grieg but he ended up coaching me at Clayton? Maybe he got too fat??

I was mortified when we failed to hang onto Fletcher and Kickett. That coupled with the loss of form through injury of Dean Greig meant we were down80 to 90 odd possessions per game and were doomed to mediocrity.Vazelos wrote: ↑Sat 14 Aug 2021 10:11am Again that era of 1991-92 derailed by a lack of money in key times to get what we needed to win a flag.

Agreed Saynta they were huge losses and all because of a lack of $$.saynta wrote: ↑Sat 14 Aug 2021 11:00amI was mortified when we failed to hang onto Fletcher and Kickett. We threw the kitchen sink at G Williams end of 1991 we didn't get him a big 4 club would have if they had our list thats the difference when you want to win flags.
