Dunstan is a much better footballer at this point in time than Ross, and almost every metric you can find will back that up.B.M wrote: ↑Sun 08 Aug 2021 7:05pm Dunstan has been good since returning to the side
Was not quite as good vs Carlton
Horrible and well beaten for three quarters vs Sydney but fought back well in the last and helped get the team across the line.
His kicking was quite poor at times though.
Dunstan is not nearly as good a footballer as Ross
And their careers to date would indicate that fact

Re: Daniel McKenzie says hi
McKenzie has been good since moved up the ground.
Based on what we had seen I dont think anyone was wrong questioning him and i think even the club would have delisted him had he not had a contract .
Good depth player strong overhead for his size and has pace. modern version of Frankie Coghlin
Ross is a solid player and does stuff which doesn't get on stat sheet. Not quick but covers ground ( longer games help him) . Disposal is the difference between him being a good and very good AFL player.
I will be shocked if Dunstan is still here next season and his form has been great for him but potentially also for us.

Now that you mention it, I can see that comparison.
DMac perhaps a bit bigger bodied, but Frankie went alright and certainly wasn't "Pea Hearted" in a time of "hard at it" football.

Re: Daniel McKenzie says hi
Personally I think the main improvement with DMac is that his football judgement is now so much improved.
He always worked hard, was fierce at the ball, had great pace etc etc. But he was an athlete playing football and could often be in the wrong place, or use the ball badly.
The Dmac we now have has good football judgement, plays his team role superbly and also uses the ball very well.
Dmac is now a footballer!

Ross gained 447 metres in the Sydney game. More than any other saint. I wish you Seb haters would get off his f****** back, if only for two more weeks.

Saying one player is better than another does not mean you're 'hating' on them.
Also, do 45m helicopter punts to no-one count towards metres gained?

Exactly my thoughts. He shouldn't really be on the list - except for a terrible brain fade by Richardson that saw him wangle a 3.5-year contract when he was on the fringes of the team.mad saint guy wrote: ↑Sun 08 Aug 2021 10:00am Credit to Dan, I had completely written him off a long time ago. He has become a solid depth option and deserves another contract. Love his intensity and attack on the footy.
He's not a polished player and makes a few too many fundamental mistakes to be a starting 22 player for a finals team, but I wouldn't think twice about giving him another 2 year contract.
He was so far out of the loop that he didn't play a single game last year. But this year, he's been among our most improved.
He's a pretty solid kick, and he reads the game quite well. He's also quick without being as fast as his draft combine numbers would suggest. But it's his toughness that is is so, so critical.
We only win games when we're tough. That's our only calling card. It's the only trick DMac and Webster can play. And DMac, right now, is playing it. He's in my best 22 right now (hard to believe I'm saying that) because he's leading by example and putting his body on the line. That's the standard we have to set and he is bringing it. Well done DMac. A new deal for you is all but assured.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Excellent post, summed up the 2021 DMac. A similar post could be written of Sinclair's improvement & value to our best 22.evertonfc wrote: ↑Wed 11 Aug 2021 6:26pmExactly my thoughts. Re: Daniel McKenzie says hi
My WTF realisation about DMac was the West Coast game in Round 4, where I found myself turning to a rose-coloured Saints couple next to me and said "gee Mackenzie has really played well today"!
He was clearly in our best players that day and deserved Coach's votes.
I think that was his first game back for over 18 months!

Re: Daniel McKenzie says hi
McKenzie awas very good in 2018 and pretty good in 2019
Not a flash in the pan
He is playing a different role, which allows him to attack the footy and use his aggressive running - wing
Sinclair started as a small forward, eventually moved up to the wing, where he had an outstanding season!
Went back to HF and was less effective for a couple of years.
His move to HB has worked.
if you look at players who seemed to have performed over recent years
You might find Wing/HB/Midfield a common theme
If you look at those frustratingly inconsistent HF/Small Forward
I think you need to look at the role they are playing. Some roles present less opportunities to have consistent offensive output.
Example
How did we rate Butlers game against Sydney?

No one enjoys asking a question we already know the answer to more than me B.M., his game was extremely good for the position he played & the result achieved.

Re: Daniel McKenzie says hi
People are suggesting D Mac is playing good footy for the first time
Same people also suggesting that his contract extension was ridiculous like he was playing at Sandy or something
Fact is, he just came off two pretty good seasons (a top 10 in the B&F) and was rewarded.
He then dealt with injury and form issues and Paton, Coffield and Clarke overtook him.
Good move to put him on a wing

Some people are quick to write off players when they’re first drafted
Some people look for scapegoats when a team is struggling.
In most situations it is people making rash judgements without all the facts.
A lot of fans who post on supporter websites are nuff nuffs who don’t have a clue
Some people have an agenda and could be players pretending to be supporters on a fan forum
Some people who post could be player managers or family of a player and they’re only interested in supporting a player who might be on the fringe so it makes sense to try and criticise individuals.

Re: Daniel McKenzie says hi
Another good story Mckenzie was a terrible half back he has a few attributes:
Strong for his size
strong runner
courageous
determined & combative'
Lacks class and polish , cant defend 1 v1 but more suited to midfield he has stepped up and has 1 year left on his contract.
He has a year to show he should get an extension.

Re: Daniel McKenzie says hi
I reckon he’s a very good one on one defender
Very strong overhead and good tackler
Was opened up by Charlie Cameron one day, but Charlie can do that to any defender when he’s on.
His 2018 showed he can play back if need be
