Re: Our draft hand
This Ben King infatuation or fascination is starting to compare to Sheedy coming to Richmond which existed throughout the 90's. Didn't matter if it a was a fit it was a pipe dream.

If St Kilda NGAs are rated by another club in their top 20 they can call them and St Kilda can't do anything.CURLY wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jul 2021 10:20pmSeen the rated between 15-30.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jul 2021 9:55pm Why couldnt you add that content to the current sticky threads?
But I doubt any of our NGA will be rated or bid on in the top 40.
The AFL always allows other clubs to take advantage and then when St Kilda will get the same advantage in another year the AFL takes it way.

Re: Our draft hand
I still highly doubt Owens will be bid on in the Top 20. The interstate kids have nearly bridged the gap on what the NAB will produce this year. If they get to show their wares in a National Competition there will be a lot more interstate kids in the Top 20 than are currently being listed in phantom drafts IMO.ace wrote: ↑Tue 03 Aug 2021 5:34pmIf St Kilda NGAs are rated by another club in their top 20 they can call them and St Kilda can't do anything.CURLY wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jul 2021 10:20pmSeen the rated between 15-30.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Sun 25 Jul 2021 9:55pm Why couldnt you add that content to the current sticky threads?

There will still be a higher percentage of VIC kids taken, but the gap in quality is narrowing as other states have really improved there development programs.

Sometimes you're a jackass, sometimes I'm a mega arse, but on this point we agree.
Tanking is B.S. It's not our DNA. Its not something we do. Its pathetic. Aussies fecking fight till the death and look damn good doing it.
IF a miracle occurred and we won the last 3 games we could help send a message to players in the trade market that we are still growing, emerging and a team of the future.
For Feck sake...tanking! I hope that thought isn't real.

Re: Our draft hand
We'd likely get a mid/late 2nd rounder for Ross in a trade but would likely only get a 3rd rounder for Dunstan. I'd be ok with both of those picks for both of those players.CURLY wrote: ↑Mon 26 Jul 2021 10:55amThink if Dunstan or Ross wanted to go we'd get a 2nd round as either a trade or compo in Dunstans case. With Bytal ready to take the next step. If Billings left late 1st early second with Clarke Gresham Higgins to come back.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Mon 26 Jul 2021 10:35amAs in who?
We are also weakened in that we have a 2 FA s and RFA. All of whom if they go could result in us getting not much in return.
There is a lot of hype on Billing gaining an extra first rounder for us if he walks, but I just cannot see any other club stumping up enough cash.
Even Battle is that awkward height that would not see him generate much in return.
Go you red, black & white warriors

Re: Our draft hand
What about Geelongs infatuation with Paddy Dangerfield?
Seemed to work for them??
I think the notion of Ben coming to StK is due to the fact his twin brother is at the club, and they are very close, both lifelong StK supporters and are from the area around Moorabbin
If we could pull off a trade for Ben
In two years we would have the most lethal forward line in the AFL

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Jack Steele, Brad Crouch, Jack Billings, Jack Higgins, Jack Sinclair, Jade Gresham, Zack Jones, Brad Hill, Leo Connolly, Jack Bytel, Ryan Byrnes, Rowan Marshall, Tim Membrey
Plus any further trade, Draft selections, Rookies, Free Agents

You’ve got one A-grader, a couple of B’s, and a lot of C’s “with potential” in that group.B.M wrote: ↑Sat 07 Aug 2021 3:09pm Who’s going to kick it to them?

Would rather 2 or 3 genuine A grade mids in the engine room. A Lenny-Dal-Goddard kind of setup.

Kings just set u up for 10 years
Lots of time to build mids and even a KPD round this these guys are 21 ffs bit 32!!
I wish people would think long term ....get the chess pieces in place that set u up for a sustained run at it...not flash in pan
In a season or 2 Hannebery goes Ryder goes plus we’ll lose a few of the mediocre brigade and that frees up cap space so if we do want to dabble some coin on a FA mid we could ...we ought to have 3 priorities
1. Bing
2. KPD
3. Mids in draft
Don’t think 1 and 3 are mutually exclusive and with future firsts plus players plus packaging picks we can get Bing and stay in the draft we are right at a critical juncture....have to be rat cunning and draft/trade wisely

Re: Our draft hand
Throwing 15% of your salary cap and 2 FRDP away on one specific spot on the ground is not a good plan to set up your future when you have major deficiencies in the midfield, ruck and defence.Teflon wrote: ↑Sat 07 Aug 2021 3:37pmConcurB.M wrote: ↑Thu 05 Aug 2021 12:11pm What about Geelongs infatuation with Paddy Dangerfield?

They’ll win you some games, but not a premiership. You need a balanced team for that.

Re: Our draft hand
Midfielders are always available
A large proportion of players are between 180 and 190
And there is a lot of talent available
At 190-200 the number of elite talent players available decreases
At 200+ there is very few genuinely talented player available as the talent pool is considerably lower.
Eg/we got Ryan Byrnes at 53 and Bytel at 43
Would anyone really be disappointed in they were first round draft picks - not really
We have picked far worse in the first round.

Re: Our draft hand
Improving with every round.
Shame season is ending in a couple of weeks. Right on track for another pick #1.
At the same time about a third of team have helpfully put their hands up to free up salary cap money by making recontracting ridiculous.

Neither Byrnes or Bytel are looking at being the next stars of the comp unfortunately, they’ll be good soldiers (hopefully) but not guns.B.M wrote: ↑Sat 07 Aug 2021 6:44pm Midfielders are always available

We have picked far worse in the first round.
We haven’t drafted an AA player in nearly 2 decades and have not been able to get any A-grade FA mids to the club even though we’ve had bags of money to throw at them and it’s easy apparently.
