The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

So Searle didn't cut the mustard. A strategic move to get the team into the AFLW?
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Geelong, she was down to the last 2 candidates, apparently.

Re: Nicky Dal Appointed Saints AFLW Coach
Excellent point. The guy who came second has an impressive coaching resume with both men and women's teams. He just just doesn't have the same profile as Dal. What is more important?
"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."

Does it really matter.
Like coaching the little league boys.
Can't run, can't kick, can't handball, tentative attack on the ball.
But they all have big dreams and want to play.

Re: Nicky Dal Appointed Saints AFLW Coach
Dal is the perfect person for the job and hopefully can lift the teams standards to a better level. Searle spoke dribble like Richardson and attempted to coach the team way above the level they were capable of playing.

Done work at the AFL AIS, Next Gen academy coach and also has worked as a coach with father son group .
I would expect they will get the best coach for the group and the club, regardless of background and gender ( yes Caro best PERSON for the job).
The AFLW is a loss running enterprise for all clubs so finance comes into it also.

No mention of quitting in the article. My understanding is she was 'moved on'.saintly wrote: ↑Mon 02 Aug 2021 8:09pmSearle quit to pursue leadership opportunities beyond senior coaching.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Mon 02 Aug 2021 7:58pm So Searle didn't cut the mustard. Re: Nicky Dal Appointed Saints AFLW Coach
All to do with daft cap cuts and Dal multitasking.
We should be getting more of the 2009 boys back! Guys that care about the club.
Top of the list are
Lenny Hayes
Robert Harvey
And I really hope Rooey gets into coaching. Would love him to be our coach.

Re: Nicky Dal Appointed Saints AFLW Coach
If Nicky Dal does ok and develops a female to take over, might he be in the running to coach seniors in 2023. Or do stigmas apply.
We have done worse, quite often. Ratts, who I respect immensely, would have to be a miracle worker to do enough in 2022 to get an extension. This year will weigh heavily, he has a seriously unbalanced list (mentally and physically?) and serious salary cap handicaps. That's not a good starting point to rebuild cred.
There would be sideways glances now for a scapegoat.
Nicky Dal could also be a useful consigliere for Ratts. Being smart Ratts would know keeping same assistants, same mids and same half forwards means only the door for him. But how to engineer a serious restructure without a war chest.
Anyway, see if the AFLW side improves, could be a new pathway for career coaches. Or not.

Your male fragility is quite laughable really. There's having an opinion and then there's just being a <edited by mods>*. You wouldn't repeat what you posted to the girls faces so I reckon you should get a grip and go peel some potatoes.

Senior figures at St Kilda have been impressed with Dal Santo’s ability to drive incredibly high standards - particularly at training - for the next generation academy, as well as the father/son prospects that he’s worked with.
And the man, himself, believes the Saints’ AFLW team - who, incredibly, has 11 players aged between 19 and 20 - has an opportunity to build sustained success if they make strong decisions now.
“We’re here to win ... we’ve got a lot of ground to make up, there’s no doubt about that,” Dal Santo said.
“Winning three games this year and last year, it’s a good foundation and a great starting point, but we’ve got a lot of work to do.
“I’m heavily relationship-based. I’m a massive believer in doing things together, so I definitely won’t be the dictator-type where I say and everyone does ... that’s not me, I think I’m more collaborative than that.
“But at the right time, you need to be held to account and I think that’s what a good culture is.”

And the grapes be all one vine,
Ere our children's teeth are set on edge
By bitter bread and wine.

Nice to see Caro throw her two bob negative garbage in on the appointment. How many teams would be honored to have a 322 game AFL Legend coach them.

Re: Nicky Dal Appointed Saints AFLW Coach
Looking from the outside…
There’s a lot to like about Nicky Dal as an Assistant Coach
Charismatic, personable man
Excellent communicator
Elite standard player, reputation for professional attitude
Long AFL career with numerous finals campaigns
Played under Blight, Thomas, Lyon, Watters, possibly Richo and whoever the North coach was at the time - well placed to mesh together positives of different styles
Played alongside a few all time greats in Harvey, Roo and Hayes… knows what the truly elite attitude looks like
More I think about it…
Why haven’t we recruited him yet?

Re: Nicky Dal Appointed Saints AFLW Coach
Let’s be honest he would get the number 1 coaching gig at 95% of TAC teams. A Grade Ammos and every senior suburban or country team. 99% of them would beat every AFLW team.

Implementing these goals in practice is another matter.
