Leigh Fisher
Watching the replay and Fisher has been huge in WC getting the points.
On the wing he ignored Max King being used like a monkey bar and you think. Ok he will be really tough on marking contests. Next thing he’s plucked a really poor free against Wilkie on Darling and they goal.
Dunstan got his head smashed and it literally took him 3 seconds to finally concede it was a free.
He also refused to award a free early on King when he got thrown to the ground out of a contest.
Really shouldn’t be doing our games.

Re: Leigh Fisher
We got off lightly. The rabid affirmation crowd was quieter than normal because half were going OOOH! at Max's exploits. They will be prepared next year, the booing as he lines up after a huge mark will ring out over the Swan like a demented banshee. The umpires will go to jelly. As they do.

Yep. And lost the free kick count too. I nearly fell off my chair when he awarded a saints player a free against the wet toast. Unbelievable .

Re: Leigh Fisher
Just like Eddie commentating Pies games or Luke Darcy commentating Dogs games, an ex player shouldn’t umpire a game involving his old team due to the clear favouritism for them, perceived or actual.
Just like home umpires don’t officiate in Test matches anymore, it removes the potential for any issues.

Re: Leigh Fisher
Let’s talk about things within our control and forget about whingeing about umpires
Crouch was invisible or he would turn it over the few times he got it. Ross had a good first quarter and a good last quarter, but I didn’t see him or Dunstan or Steele get that much of the footy in the second and third. Billings was poor in that middle patch and there were far too many passengers.
Our second and third quarters against West Coast were ordinary at best and we were playing catch up in the last.
Listen to Ratts presser. The defenders made a few errors, and we missed one or two chances up forward, but it was our midfield that lost us the game.

Re: Leigh Fisher
Eleni and Leigh appointed to Saints game. Game plan - don't tackle, minimise their opportunities.

Re: Leigh Fisher
Actually I reckon he's one of the best umpires, but it's probably best he doesn't umpire our games as I get the impression he makes that extra effort not to favor St Kilda.

You're not suggesting that under certain circumstances umpires can be inequitable..The_Dud wrote: ↑Wed 28 Jul 2021 7:49pm Just like Eddie commentating Pies games or Luke Darcy commentating Dogs games, an ex player shouldn’t umpire a game involving his old team due to the clear favouritism for them, perceived or actual.

Re: Leigh Fisher
I'm sure Leigh is conscious of the fact he can't be seen to be giving any advantage to a side he once played for so to compensate he goes over & beyond to prove he is neutral so the 50/50 calls we should get fall by the way side. IMO it's simple don't let Fisher umpire Saints games ,takes the pressure off Fisher to call it as he sees it & the awkward he favouring the Saints because he played for them out of the equation. But hey logic & the AFL don't go hand in hand

Re: Leigh Fisher
He definitely tries hard not to favour us and ends up going the other way.
It’s not deliberate he’s not consciously doing anything, but it happens.
Where possible her should not do our games.

Re: Leigh Fisher
Does he really?
Fisher was a mid grade Saints player that played what… 50 odd games 10 years ago.
I guess it’s perceptions but how much goodwill would you even expect from him. It really shouldn’t be an issue at all.

Some on here get upset when umpires say who they supported as a kid…

Re: Leigh Fisher
For everyone's benefit shouldnt do our games. appears to subconsciously ensure he doesn't favor us and goes the other way, or he just ins't a good umpire.
Much better than Eleni though dont know one supporter from any team that like seeing her walk out. Carlton get her a lot. Nothing to do with gender all to do with ability.

Re: Leigh Fisher
Agree that some of those decisions were 'ordinary', but surely an ex-player from any club should not be an umpire on the same team's games - he will be targeted whichever way it goes.
