Billings has finished top 5 in the best and fairest on two occasions (4th)

Has far from Ben an average GOP

What do we actually expect from him?

To be as good as Dusty and or Danger??

He’s a solid B+ grade player, who in form can play A Grade footy

From what I understand
He is playing with a plantar fascia injury.

I think the below from BF sums up Billings which is why the whisper is he’s prepared to accept 500k over 5 - the sticking point apparently is the term (I’m ok with that myself as he’s at least durable..)

Stringer Cameron and De Goey all have something Billings doesn’t.

explosiveness.

when injured that is the first thing that goes. It is also something that match winners have and Billings isn’t that or have traits that resemble match winners. When he was drafted they compared him to Nathan Brown. He and us as supporters need to redefine how we view JB. Because he is vanilla with the odd sparkle and unfortunately that doesn’t win you many games.

Billings is at the point where people just want to see tangible output that hurts the opposition.

kicks a great goal off his non preferred. Then s***s the bed on a simple set shot. Goes absolutely missing after that. Can consistently get 24 touches and people scratch their head and think - I don’t recall a standout moment.

This year you have been targeting Billings and Dunstan.
Billings has had plantar fascia since round 4.
Dunstan was only given one game until round 11.
Despite the setbacks they are 3rd and 4th in saintsational player of the year.
They are not perfect but overall they are doing ok.
Maybe you should look at others to target. There are 30 players+ on our list doing worse.
At least you have moved on from GT.

Yes but to be fair it’s about targeting for need abs potentially what we “might” get back that’s driving the conversation

Potential should not drive the conversation. We are now a relatively old side. Our time is next 2 years when our list will primarily be at their peak. Billings and Dunstan are amongst the top of the list. Improvement needs to come from others.

Agree shaggy Billings been at Saints for 7 years certainly not a match winner and i do believe he has given all he can at St.Kilda.
Im puzzled by all the talk of how good he is in games by some saintsational members.
If he is injured why play him.

Because we have no better!

Both Billings and Dunstan went missing for large parts of the game against West Coast. Dunstan and Crouch were unsighted in that last quarter when we were a chance to steal it. We got more out of Ryan Byrnes and Ben Long in the last 20 minutes than we did from some of our so called senior leaders.

Is he our worst player? Is he constantly injured? Does he shirk contests? Is his disposal poor? If you answer NO to all these questions then why are you puzzled?

If you answer YES to one of them then you've a bias against the man that cannot be fixed or argued with.

The discussion has now moved on to worth versus return. Elaborate on why a round 2 or 3 draft pick is better than Billings. His worth is between $500K & $600K, apparently that's a round 2 or 3 draft pick.

If it's salary cap space you're after, so be it, cut his salary, accept the pick. Personally I'd burn off other leaches.

Potential to improve your list drives all trades/compensation discussions
That’s why clubs do it
They don’t stand still
It’s simple IF you think you can get more for said player on market than you can by keeping him you move him

I’d throw it in the bin abs wait for JB to add to that list of tear apart games you still haven’t provided
But alas we move on
I’ve suggested multiple thoughts this thread time to let others think other than “he’s a good , honest B Grader we should keep him”
Those people will be the same ones wondering why the list doesn’t improve cause we never want to let anyone go...
Anyhoo Billings appears to have dropped his price is what I read and do he should he’s nowhere near 600 a year and in time I won’t be surprised if Byrnes or Connolly go past him on his current trajectory

I only asked a question ABS, no answer. You got your answer but refuse to acknowledge it. Pretty rude in my opinion to bang on about something you refused to read as if I did not answer you cos I know you deserve to be answered.

Anywho.

Billings showed again tonight that he is one of the worst set shots on goal going around. Ok at snapping at goal. But easy set shots are not easing for Billings.
When Higgins passed to him I though WTF, Higgins was much more likely to have goaled.

In field play he all too often at present just looks for the easy option, rather than good option. ie Tonight gives the ball to Hill who was running in the wrong direction past him with the result that Hill had no where to go with the boundary on one side and two defenders to beat. Mind you it was silly for Hill to present that option as well.

Higgins is also a poor set shot and was on the wrong side for a right

Pass to Billings the right decision

The shot by Billings putrid

Why is he going to Essendon?

They have nothing in their cap and he’s not linked to them

If he goes anywhere it will be North

I think the body language from the group as a whole tonight looked really poor from the start like they didn't want to be there & I think Carlton sensed that and upped the anti & we couldn't go with them hence if you don't come to play you lose IMO

To be fair to Billings who is out best kick. Two clear times tonight he ran perfectly to receive a handball off a team mate who was under pressure and they burnt him. Billing’s had plenty of grass in front of him was on his left and the player just shanked it forward instead. Those incidents are what shows up on TV and so clear it was revealing.

Don’t think that’s true. Some like Connelly seemed almost over confident. Others though looked leg heavy. So many kicks scrubbed along the ground a sure sign of a leg tired player.
