I fear we left our run a week late, but I hope I’m wrong. We could definitely do some damage if we made the eight and we’d be a sentimental favourite with the umpires falling over themselves to help, a la Bulldogs 2016.
Shame that it took Hunter Clark’s jaw being smashed and the return of some very key players to get our season going.

Re: Is this our best ruck combo...
I've closely followed Max Heath's development in the past 18 months, ever since I read that one of his coaches reckoned he had a lot of Carl Ditterich's aggression in the way he plays, so was tickled pink that he was drafted last month.
He's likely to progress quite rapidly under Paddy Ryder's wings. It is quite common for ruckmen to develop slowly but I expect Max will be like Freo's Sean Darcy who at 23 has become one of the leading ruckmen in the comp.
If as he has indicated Paddy plays on in 2022 and possibly 2023 I believe the team will be well set up with Heath and Marshall as the Saints' ruck duo into the future!

Re: Is this our best ruck combo...
I remember Big Carl, or the Shadow as the players knew him. Athletic, mobile, extremely talented but tough and fearless. Would not survive in today’s game, would be suspended over and over again. Our smaller players were looked after. Carl dished out the retribution when it was needed.Sanctorum wrote: ↑Tue 13 Jul 2021 11:28am I've closely followed Max Heath's development in the past 18 months, ever since I read that one of his coaches reckoned he had a lot of Carl Ditterich's aggression in the way he plays, so was tickled pink that he was drafted last month.

Bit harsh on Vidovic. Injuries really restricted his career.B.M wrote: ↑Mon 12 Jul 2021 8:12pm Spider was outstanding- a 3 time AA ruckman
Vidovic’s legend has grown - he was a GOP who played as many reserves games as senior games. In fact he only played 90 games in 9 seasons at StK.
In that year where he got injured and was a ‘huge loss’ he actually only played 7 games.
Marshall and Ryder are probably our only A Grade duo since Saru and Sidebottom - who were effectively followers/ruck rovers
Prior to that we had Ditterich/Morrow/Mynott
Most of his reserves games came in 1988-1991. He was excellent in 1992 before getting injured in 1993. Came back with a great season in 1994, got suspended in the preseason of 1995 and missed the first six games (which we lost), as soon as he came back we found form beating several top 8 sides, then injury struck again.
He returned in 1996 with a good season before a preseason knee injury in '97 meant he missed the first three months of the season. He returned in Round 16 and we didn't lose a game with him in the side. Then a knee injury struck again, this time for good.
The 1997 GF would have been very different if Lazar had played.I do recall him saying somewhere that Darren Jarman wouldn't remember the '97 GF if he'd played in it.

I also think the first Crow player to stick the knees into Harvey would have been the last one to have the nerve to do it.Beno88 wrote: ↑Tue 13 Jul 2021 1:32pmBit harsh on Vidovic. Injuries really restricted his career.B.M wrote: ↑Mon 12 Jul 2021 8:12pm Spider was outstanding- a 3 time AA ruckman

Damian Kitschke
Remember him?
He was Lazar's sidekick no?
He only seemed to play for a few years, but they were years where St Kilda got better.

Re: Is this our best ruck combo...
As opposed to what they did to Harvey. They’re enforcers took some rough shots... we didn’t really have any tough players on the day physically/emotionally in their prime.
I’d have taken the win personally.

Yep, liked Paul. Great worker. Remember him and Brett Bowey starring in a win down at Moorabbin and going in the rooms after the game. Bowey got an award.SaintPav wrote: ↑Tue 13 Jul 2021 11:52pmPaul Hardingshanegrambeau wrote: ↑Tue 13 Jul 2021 9:14pm Damian Kitschke

But Paul Harding, I loved him, but watching the ball bounce of his chest as we let that final slip to Geelong in '91...after all those years, we hadn't been in a final since I was 9. Nevermind, went on to play West Coast didn't he. I think he was decent there. Not sure if he played in their flags.

Re: Is this our best ruck combo...
They did what anyone would do to a dual Brownlow medallist and premier player… put them under pressure
Harves got 36 so I’m not sure he was too affected?
Also not sure any of them did anything untoward or outside the rules, definitely not knocking him out as you’re suggesting Lazar might have done.
That sort of stuff is disgraceful and not something I’d be happy that Saints player had to resort to.
Jim o’Dea and Cowboy hits are very ordinary moments in StK FC history

The game was different back then. Every team had its knuckle merchants. To name a few, Sheedy, Balme, Patterson, Matthews, Hawker… I had better stop as the list would go on and on.saynta wrote: ↑Wed 14 Jul 2021 7:46pmAs was Dermie's hit on spud but i don't think the hawk supporters would condemn that particular fig jam.B.M wrote: ↑Wed 14 Jul 2021 7:32pm They did what anyone would do to a dual Brownlow medallist and premier player… put them under pressure
