Butler's move
In the second quarter when Rich had a free kick near our goal square and he positioned himself behind Rich and as soon as play on was called he went after him and affected his kick.
This is definitely a tactic we should do more often to create pressure on the opposition.

Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Re: Butler's move
Absolutely, really good move. Thought he was good last night Butler. Unlucky to have his goal overturned.
Was aggressive and brought the heat

Re: Butler's move
I agree. Had our second highest number of pressure points, just behind Steele and way ahead of everyone else. Played an important role.Banger9798 wrote: ↑Sun 11 Jul 2021 7:14pm Absolutely, really good move. Thought he was good last night Butler. Unlucky to have his goal overturned.

Re: Butler's move
Butler was StK lowest rated player
Continually gave away soft frees and looks horribly out of form
Needs to get back to doing the basics well

Re: Butler's move
He’s actually had an ordinary year, and if it weren’t for last season’s performance he would’ve been dropped by now.

Re: Butler's move
Yeah, but apparently it’s very hard to get kicks in the forward line.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Re: Butler's move
Where was Butler’s opponent?
The tactic seemed to work but is it something that can be done regularly?
Also interesting was Hill running behind Webster at the kick out. It looked good but how does it compare to Hill just taking the kick and charging off in that direction?

Re: Butler's move
Yes it is
You have a defender on you
You have less room to operate
And you’re reliant on delivery from others
Common sense stuff really

Re: Butler's move
So in the meantime, you chase, harass, tackle and make yourself dangerous for the opposition. I thought he did all that very well and was very team oriented last night.

Re: Butler's move
Butler needs to be kicking goals, and unfortunately he’s not doing much of that lately. I’d have him behind both Higgins and Long in the small forward role.

While other players run around the park not marked, doing whatever they like. Reality is it’s tough everywhere at AFL level.

Re: Butler's move
Hmm
Let me see, just from the last game
Steele 32 Mid
Dunstan 29 Mid
Hones 26 Mid
Hill 25 HB
Ross 24 Wing
Billings 24 HF/Wing
Crouch 23 Mid
Sinclair 21 HB
Webster 19 BP
Wilkie 18 CHB
Top 10 possession winners
Not many forwards there?
If you don’t think it’s harder getting a kick as a forward than as a mid
You’ve never played the game
Or
Don’t understand it

Re: Butler's move
Oh here we go again with snide remarks and put downs. I think there is another post somewhere recently where you were proven wrong about blind reliance on data. You wouldn’t know one thing about me and what I have done. But as I have been told this site is about opinions and debate. Perhaps you need to go about it without snide remarks and put downs. Or is it that you can’t cope when someone challenges you?B.M wrote: ↑Sun 11 Jul 2021 9:33pm Hmm

Re: Butler's move
Or you can’t admit when you’re wrong
I (like coaches) will use data to state the facts
In this case
To support my notion that it’s easier to get a kick as a Midfielder (and defender) than it is as a forward.

Then drop the snide remarks and put downs. If your argument is so good, you should not need to resort to them, unless you get some sort of weird gratification from it.
