Re: Highmore, Wood and McKenzie
Very premature call
Wood who has improved out of site isn’t even firmly in the top 22 yet. Has just had a few games where he has done good things
3 weeks ago Highmore’s disposal was a liability that was possibly unfixable
McKenzie was in the reserves
I’d take Coffield ahead of all of them - he had a sustained season of looking like an excellent player even if he’s fallen away a bit this season
Battle is harder to pick. We’re using him in a very odd way and he’s struggled

Re: Highmore, Wood and McKenzie
At the moment
Coffield is injured, but was teetering on the fringe and struggling big time
Highmore looks very assured and has looked better by foot the more he’s played
Battle plays wing and mid size forward
McKenzie has taken a spot on the wing and Wood is playing the hybrid role probably better than Battle has ever played as a forward

Re: Highmore, Wood and McKenzie
Highmore and McKenzie are fearless. That's why they're playing. Coffield.....i don't expect him to be that fearless but he needs to look at this two players to get an idea of what's required. Battle has been played out of position for most of the season, so it's not about any individual player replacing him

With the number and quality of players St Kilda has out injured, if you are not playing in the 22 you are way down the pecking order.

Wood hasn't done much tonight, but the other two have been very good.

Re: Highmore, Wood and McKenzie
Lots on here were saying they were all s***. Ppl couldn't see why the Saints recruited Highmore. They all said he couldn't kick. Come on own up!

Re: Highmore, Wood and McKenzie
Hands up all those posters who put s*** on our recruiting team for drafting Highmore or have been critical of him since.
Come on guys own up. Not that hard to find out who you are . Just a matter of putting his name into the SS search engine.

Big difference in hardness at the ball.
DMac and Highmore are unflinching in their attack
Coffield is not soft but certainly not hard.

Re: Highmore, Wood and McKenzie
I didn't hang it on him, but 6 decent games a good draft pick does not make. We need SEASONS. It could happen. He looks decent.
But so did Parker and many others who faded away .
Time will tell. I hope all our picks turn to gold!!! C'mon Saunters!!!!!

Rubbish. Parker had one good game and a few glimpses. Highmore has played very well since coming in. He’s already the best mark in the backline.

Re: Highmore, Wood and McKenzie
Parker was always trying to pull off what Long succeeded in doing - the big speccy. Enthusiasm was great but gave away far too many frees and didn't kick goals.
How anybody could compare him with Highmore is beyond me. Tom has amassed more credibility in half a dozen games than Matty did in two seasons. Wish him well.
And the media tripe that we spent the farm on experienced players from other clubs. Hmm, ever heard the names Byrnes, Highmore, Connelly or King? They love to bag Max but, hell, he can play.

Re: Highmore, Wood and McKenzie
I admit that I had completely written off McKenzie but I think it's worth giving him a 2 year contract as a solid depth option. His attack on the ball is excellent and his disposal has improved, even if it's still a bit inconsistent.
Wood definitely gets another contract as well. He probably is competing with Battle for a spot when everyone is fit and in form.
Highmore is improving and I'm very interested to see his form for the rest of the season. He is excellent in the air and I want to find out if his horrible kicking clangers came from inexperience and nerves or if it's going to be an ongoing problem. I'm inclined to think that it's the former.
I don't have any of these three in my best 22 if everyone is fit and firing, but they're definitely all going to get more games this year and have a chance to cement themselves in the 22. Highmore seems the most likely to make himself a permanent fixture.

Only a select few have recognised his value to the team before this game. Check the very exclusive club that has given Tommy votes before last nights game .

OK, time for a lot of us here to eat humble pie....the club was roundly criticised by most for giving Dan McKenzie a 3 year contract last year but this has well and truly been vindicated - it's amazing what confidence can do for a player, now an absolute jet and playing the best footy of his career - great to see!

Re: Highmore, Wood and McKenzie
Tommy Highmore, what else can we say.......an EXCELLENT intercept mark and reads the play so well not to mention his ridiculous Max Hudghton like courage - this means Carlisle and Clavarino unfortunately are on very shaky ground now.
I also think it's obvious to all now that Longy is a forward, very dangerous down there and a nightmare for defenders because he has that X factor

That’s an excellent observation. Similar indeed. Far out - if we end up with an AA mature age defender from a State league … I may just lose my s*** altogether (in a good way)

Re: Highmore, Wood and McKenzie
Wood listed as a hamstring, does anyone know if it was a tear or just awareness? Unlucky as he was probably in the best form of his career.
