Love Gears
Silly move
Have Paton, Webster, McKenzie, Connolly who can all play small back
If they do this, it proves they are a bit clueless

Will cut Roberton McKernan Hunter Kent Frawley that’s enough cuts.

I'm OK with this, there's plenty of other list cloggers to get rid of before Geary. At the very least an assistant outside the staff cap.

Not really, always cut what's not your future. Sentimental contract extensions do not help.
Hoist him on the shoulders of the future after our final 2021 game, that's enough without compromising our list.

Not enough IMO.
I don’t necessarily mind Geary getting a year but you need at least 1-2 more cut that you know can’t/won’t contribute

Re: Gears 2022 100%
COVID has changed a lot about how playing lists and footy staff are going to be managed over the next 3 to 5 years. Expect to see the standard operating procedure for list management undergo a significant amendment starting with the move to either keep proven and ageing AFL players on lists for longer, or to bring in proven and ageing AFL players in from other clubs.
From Gear's perspective, what-else is he going to do if the club cut him, pre COVID he most likely would have had a job opportunity in the AFL system waiting for him to walk straight into...somewhere, but that was pre COVID, when there was a crap load more money around, right now a player like Gears can be kept on a list for minimum wage because it's better than social welfare payments and clubs have to get creative with list management due to significantly reduced operating budgets.
It makes sense to keep Gears on the list as a backup as long as it's for beer money which I'm sure it would be.

Re: Gears 2022 100%
Poor move
Weak club decision
Guys injury prone 34 years old cabs can’t let go
IF he keeps a Connolly out next year I’d be livid
Not our future abs holding club to ransom in a selfish move
Disappointed if true.

Re: Gears 2022 100%
Hypothetical: we are a finals chance IF we beat the Lions, who do you select this week, Connolly or Gears (assuming he's fit and shown he still has it while playing for Sandy?)
I'll answer, Gears hands down. It doesn't change the fact Connolly is our future, but he's green, real green.

Magically Gears is fit (first time in years) and Paton is fit to play small defender shut down role....who do you pick???
Paton - future plus better player
Point is Geary has played 4 good games in last 3 years he’s cooked abs it’s utterly selfish he goes on
He’s not Luke Hodge FFS

Re: Gears 2022 100%
Please no. Geary a marvelous club man and it’s imperative we find him a role, just not a playing role.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Re: Gears 2022 100%
In your counter hypothetical, Paton probably isn't getting a game because he's taking longer than expected recovering from a serious leg fracture, the worst kind, anyway thankfully Webster would keep him out of the side due to being a much better option (at the time), back on Connolly though, Gears is an affordable "Luke Hodge" being the point in leau of an actual "Luke Hodge" type being available.Teflon wrote: ↑Wed 07 Jul 2021 10:08pmOk let’s play hypotheticalsVortex wrote: ↑Wed 07 Jul 2021 9:36pmHypothetical: we are a finals chance IF we beat the Lions, who do you select this week, Connolly or Gears (assuming he's fit and shown he still has it while playing for Sandy?)

Get used to these types of decisions while the AFL economy is in recession.
