Very selective time frame to be honest. Given that we basically built a team that played from 2001 - 2011 in drafts prior to 2004.
It is the last 16 years....... but yes include further if you want to pump up the stats in a meaningless way with respect to our current fortunes.
What counts for where we are NOW at is what talent we have identified in recent years.
In terms of talent that could now be playing for us our drafting of players that have never played AFL before has been dismal when you look at all of our selections as a whole.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
Just another midfielder over looked by our very average recruiting team! Highmore who is an ordinary under sized defender, taken 7 picks ahead of Edwards. When will the club wake up to the fact that that their recruiting and list management continues to be abysmal and do something to correct it.

Good thing no one else missed out on Edwards. Think you'll find there are issues with Edwards.

I guess he has the same issues as Poulter - Curly? He is a genuine midfielder and St Kilda refuse to draft them. Perhaps they are gun shy after picking up Billings who they thought was going to turn into a super star mid?

Poulter please the Ed Phillips clone.
Ask why Adelaide didn’t take him.
The only thing I care about is whether he can play footy at the top level and he has proven he can. And Poulter will play a lot more games than Phillips did...
Jacob Koschitzke looks like he will become a decent forward @ pick #52 in 2018 draft. Our recruiters took Matt Parker at #47 & Hind at #54. So typical neither are at the club any longer. Perhaps they thought we didnt need another kpp after taking King, but ironically they have been trying to find another ever since.
They took Allison with our first rounder last year, and I will be very surprised if he amounts to anything. Highmore is too under sized to play a kpp role.
Our recruiting under Libartore is no better than it was for the 10 years before he got the job! The club needs to cut the leaches like Sexton & Allan to create some soft cap space and target proven recruitment personnel eg Simon Dalrymple, Sam Power, Matt Clarke or Stephen Wells. Until they start nailing the majority of our draft picks we will never improve!
Another example of our wonderful list management is looking at Jack Sinclairs stats vs Nick Hind. Sinclair has been our in form small defender who the club are raving about in recent times.
Well Hind is averaging 3 more disposals a game, 5% better disposal efficiency, more rebound 50's, more inside 50's, more tackles, marks and a huge 120 metres more gained each game.
Well done St Kilda (Gallagher/Ratten/Lethlean) you let a likely All Australian small defender walk for a draft pick we didnt use - you bloody geniuses!

Allison is the same height as Reiwoldt FFS,
What has his height got to do with his general footballing ability? Mason Cox is 211cms and he couldnt catch a cold in the Antartic and Reiwoldt was a champion All Australian junior key forward. Jacob Koschitzke played as a key forward/defender at state level.
We recruited Allison as a tall lead up forward, a kid who had never played that role. He didnt make any of the state squads as an under ager and is not a strong over head mark even at 195cms tall. They picked him because of his running capacities, again an athletic profile over footballing ability. He is a long term prospect but I believe a poor draft selection.

Another example of our recent poor recruiting/trading is the Brad Hill vs Ed Langdon trades which occurred the same year.
Hill the Dockers star - and a future third-round selection - have been exchanged for a huge bounty, with St Kilda giving up Blake Acres, Pick 10, Pick 58, and a future second and fourth round pick.
The Demons handed over picks No.22, 79 and a future second-round selection for the 23-year-old, while the Dockers gave up Langdon, pick No.26 and a future fourth-round selection.
So basically Langdon cost Melbourne a future 2nd round vs Hill costs which were madness, let alone the additional $$$ spent. Hill is two years older and is averaging 5 less possessions a game and cant win his own footy. Our football dept staff are meant to be professionals, but blind Freddy would tell you Langdon was much a more valued trade than Hill.

Oops sorry I meant Highmore. He is the same height as roo and not to short to play a key position role.
Allison will make the grade if his bloodlines mean anything.

Highmore is 193cms but he doesnt play tall, perhaps it is his reach. In any event I doubt he will ever be quick or strong enough to take the key opposition talls. Too much of the heavy lifting is left to Dougal Howard in our defence - god help us if he ever gets injured.
Allison's uncles being his football lineage Peter Bosustow and Brett Allison. Both forward pocket/flankers types who were both a bit flakey and played in very good sides. Hardly a reason to draft any kid as a tall lead up forward, but time will tell he may come good? I just dont believe we needed to take him so early.

Are you f****** serious? Did you ever see either of them play?
Allison might have been a flanker but Bosustow definitely played games as a key forward.
Alabakis is going that well he is getting beaten in the ruck by Lachlan Street who is 189cms tall, he is an absolute spud.
He just had a kick sat right on his head in the forward line no one within cooey of him and he barely got one hand to it and dropped a sitter. Went an entire game without a possession just 21 hitouts and even vert few of them were to advantage. The guy has NFI if he is on our list next year the club can gagf I wont be renewing our memberships.
Sandringham shouldnt be forced to play this spud. Carey is more than capable of giving Hunter a chop out in the ruck. They play a player short every week playing Akabakis.

Both were brilliant marks with Allison taking mark of the year in 1991 with Peter being awarded Mark and goal of the year 10 years earlier.
Regardless of opinions of Bosustow or Allison, it means absolutely nothing with regards to whether Matthew can play or not.
Have you watched him today playing against Richmond? There is no way this kid becomes a key position player, he sea gulls outside every contest waiting for an easy possession. Is fragile in tackles and shirks marking contests.
Two Saints NGA players playing the Vic Metro vs VC trial game today. Mitch Owen playing forward and Marcus Windhager playing midfield for Metro in the first game. Both probably make the state squad selections.
Josiah Kyle and Scott Bielby played in the 2nd trial game. Both quiet game and neither did enough to warrant selection in their respective state squads IMO.
The other notable info is that Luke Darcy's son Sam Darcy will be a top 5 pick and will be a superstar.
Judson Clarke a super quick and classy left foot midfielder impressed also. He got plenty of it and kicked 5 goals.
Ben DeBolfo was another mid sized quick marking defender who impressed.
This is one of the kids the Saints over looked to reach for Allison. Liam McMahon made the most of limited opportunities to kick four goals in VFL for Collingwood against Frankston. Allison is lucky to get 4 possessions a game...

Plenty of impressive efforts in Vic Metro/Country trials yesterday. Ben Hobbs (37 dis, 9 marks, 2 gl) pushing himself into top-5 contention while crafty left-footer Judson Clarke was great with 5 gls. Marcus Windhager (StK NGA) had 25 disp, Paul Curtis lively with 3.5 goals.
Congratulations to Marcus Windhager on making the Vic Metro squad for the National Championships. They are a a strong group and Mitch Owen's has been listed as an emergency.

St Kilda-listed ruckman Max Heath was a good contributor for the Dragons, amassing 11 disposals, seven hit-outs to advantage, six score involvements and 113 ranking points
