What is the rationale here?
Are we that tight on payments that we can't afford even the minimum wage to try out some kids?
Anyone know why we are only taking1 pick?

As at 11am AEST

AFL also reckons Freeman is on the Tigers' radar.
Good luck with that, 40 touches in a VFL game but according to a poster on here, the kicks were all tentative and lacked distance, as if he didn't want to overextend thr legs?
And it's alleged he lost his speed too.
Matt Rendell on SEN said his burst of speeds back and his skills are excellent.

One pick is mind boggling Moronic
The amount of delistings we will have at year end v available draft picks means me may as well try 1 or 2 now

I would be going for 4 or at least 3 FFS

Sound familiar

Cough Billy Longer cough
Have you watched him play? I have watched several of his games this year and he is much more mobile than Longer. He got over 20 disposals in his first 2 games was taking strong marks and hitting the score board. Games 3 & 4 he was carrying an injury and was quieter but apparently he blitzed his school game last weekend.
Disposals & Marks, he sounds like the anti-Longer!

Blues, Hawks, Norf and GC are all going for 2.

For us to grudgingly say 'one, but only if we have to'
Is Lethlean in denial and his stubborn attitude is gonna hurt the club for years

Perhaps keeping powder dry for main drafts, talent pool available Wednesday may be considered mediocre, also maybe our salary cap is stretched or fully budgeted.

However if Hannebery goes on long term injury list........

If our recruiting team and their network of spies were not working overtime for the past 6 months to identify players overlooked in the drafts 2019 & 2020 with the opportunity to select between 2 to 4 players then they should be sacked, they can pack Lethlean up & take him when they leave the building.

This is a gimme in every sense of the recruiting word.

A young ruck / fwd
A young key defender
Two outside midfielders

2 outside mids ('Beyonce' Hill the diva, can't or won't perform, bye bye)

Not sure the club has any frigg*n idea at the moment. I would rather give Ratts the flick.

Must take the maximum number of young recruits we can fit under our salary cap (which has probably been poorly managed and maxed out) then offload the list cloggers and go again in the national draft and try for another free agent. We are likely to slip further down the ladder so should end up with pick 2-4 which should be used and not traded. If the masterminds running the show don’t do something like this they may as well turn off the lights and lock the doors

All good just saw the tweet. We are reaching the point of the absurd as a club
Why leave it until now
Why say maybe 1 at most ie 1 or 0
Why now have 4 picks

Are we in complete disarray?

Mitch Cleary

@cleary_mitch

St Kilda has opened up a further three picks for tomorrow’s NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft late today - taking them to four selections overall. Pies opted against another - leaving them at two picks @AFLcomau

Thank f****** God. Sanity has prevailed at last.

Wonder if the powers that be have been influenced by the posts on this forum, big footy, facebook and others.

The comments posted are almost unanimously again having just one pick.

Someone at the club has crunched the numbers.
They need to keep these 4 (if they pick 4) for next yr too, or they lose $160k (for each?)

Therefore...if they take 4, then we have 4 guys on our list, whose contracts end this yr, that will be delisted.
It's a business decision. Can't fit them all under the cap, and we'll be committed to the new draftees

My guesses on not being offered new contracts
Carlisle- injuries
Lonie
Geary
Kent

Wellerdsaint could be right with retiring or delisting Carlisle, Gerry, Lonie and Kent but should also look at moving on McKenzie, Hunter, Joyce, Alabaskis, Wood, McKernan and Frawley if they are not contracted but I guess we don’t have the picks to lose them all.

We should lose them all though. They’re all list cloggers. Do a north and de-list all of the dead wood. We couldnt get much worse.

Well
Roberton will go
Hunter will go
Mc Kernan will go
Alabakis will go
We have 2 spare rookie spots I think

Frawley may go
Dunstan may move

That’s without trying
Plenty of spots

I assume everyone understands that whoever we pick (under the age of 20) it is very unlikely they will impact this season at all.

Select 4 and keep whoever shows a bit, let go who does not

It’s only a 6 month trial

That cost like 60 to 80k a pop as well
I predict one selection only.

Max heath maybe

Devil head is probably right but this season is already washed up so let’s plan for the future that said we have a few in the team now that are not having a lot of impact

Further to my post, I mentioned those 4 because according to the Contracts thread, they're signed to end of this yr.
Can't see any of them on the list next year.
Each newby apparently must be kept for next yr or we pay $80k for each one.
So...we may not take 4, we may play safe and take 2?
