Dunstan and Wood are certain to come in, probably Joyce and Connelly as well.
Who to drop.? Apart from Sinclair and Steele, take your pick.

Re: Ratts Claims Mass Changes
Yes it’s part game plan/coaching but lots players too
Point is we can’t sack him he has 12 months to go so has to see out next year unless Clarkson becomes available then that may change things for mine ...
Reading from those ITK we have this weird “players must play multiple roles”thing apparently Ratts loves... hence Battle Clarke etc bein* yo yo’d all over the place confusing everyone
Get back to basics Brett and fast
Simple game plan with s9me defensive attributes and let players settle in positions
Move Battle to CHB leave him there where he showed something
Leave Clarke in the midfield try some kids off HBF and also don’t leave it till we are getting smashed to get Sinclair through the middle.....he’s been good there and is a decent user......
If we want run off HB why not Hill and Byrnes?..

Re: Ratts Claims Mass Changes
I never agreed with this strategy. We didn’t have the core to challenge and it was way too early to be recruiting all these mature players. Especially when you consider some of them are past it and some of them are C or D grade.
I always had a feeling it was about building hope and ...building membership numbers rather than building a squad that is capable of sustained success. The accountants and the bank has taken over the footy department.
Sometimes you need short term pain for long term gain... And not just in the big picture...Also for individuals. E.g. There is no justification for keeping King in the side each and every week. As soon as he started showing signs he should have been dropped. There is no shame in being dropped for a young player. It means he gets a chance to gain confidence and self belief at a slightly lower level and he will live and feel and experience first hand how much better he is than the rest of the opposition at that level
The proverbial statement needed to be made several weeks ago and also probably last year at certain stages. I don’t care how low our stocks are and how many injuries there are? Where is the selection integrity? For the senior players there needs to be more accountability.
It’s always stuff on the periphery and it happened too many times last year. Dropping the youngsters this year like Highmore or Bytel or dropping Lonie, or Dunstan or McKernan or Mason Wood has proved meaningless.
The selection committee has backed away from making the hard calls. I think compalcency has well and truly set in. We need hard arses to drive every single player harder than ever and to put a little bit of fear into the senior players. If their career is threatened maybe they’ll wake up and perform to AFL standard
One final thing that needs to be said is that we have some dumb footballers who need better instruction and guidance. We also play games at night when there is dew and it’s slippery and yet they mostly train during the day when it’s dry. How dumb is that?

Re: Ratts Claims Mass Changes
Massive changes?
Yes I would love to see a statement that the crap dished up against the Dogs was not acceptable, but with I think no one coming back from injuring there is very little in the VFL team at present.
Is Connolly injured?
Dunstan is about the only player who could be picked on merit. So slim pickings indeed.
Butler must be dropped. Main offender of doing nothing.
So charity selections will be say?
Hunter for McKernan. Or maybe play Joyce as a forward?
Coffield despite 2 poor games after being omitted.
Wood gifted a game solely because he is playing his former team?

Re: Ratts Claims Mass Changes
If Dunstan can rove to Hunter and still get clearances and kick goals what more does he have to do? Lonie could not do that ever. Most couldn't.
GLok looked ok, (not going to say a gun as that would be too punny) but don't think he is signed, perhaps because his kicking would show up 50% of the seniors The other Coffield as well looked likely - not signed?
The B. Long story will be interesting when it emerges. What a decline so quickly. At least Butler can claim age has caught up with speed and he has a lovely farm and cant afford to get hurt. Ben looks like he has lost the ability to read play.
Why Joyce is not preferred to Frawley or Webster just shows how little I know. His accent perhaps, maybe team mates can't understand him.

Re: Ratts Claims Mass Changes
I think after 2014, it was only 4 years later that the saints missed the top 8 by a whisker.
Unless something crazy happens in the 2021 trade / draft period, this is it. I’d be looking at either 2025 for the next real try.
Not enough great kids right now, which makes me think 2025 as the more likely window.

Re: Ratts Claims Mass Changes
I know we have injuries and are running out of options, but we need to play one small forward from this week on.
3 small forwards is 2 too many - an overkill.
Maybe Higgins gets the nod and becomes our small forward.
And that's it.
Our small forwards don't contribute around the midfield - they are just finishers of good work further up the field, and their tackles are too easily brushed aside or they are being easily outmarked.
Three of them is counterproductive.
Anyone can see that - and the coach has to start realising this too.
We can and should replace the other 2 small forwards with 2 of either Coffield, Dunstan and/or Wood.
And they can play forward instead.
I don't care if Coffield is out of form - he shouldn't be left out of the side, especially if it's to play a third small forward. At least he'll be tackling a lot harder and taking a strong mark here and there or providing a strong aerial contest and some decent forward pressure.

Coff should be in the seniors for the rest of the year. Rather get games into young blokes than the likes of Frawley, Wood, Geary etc.

It's going to be fascinating to see what "mass changes" looks like because Lethlean contradicts his head coach only 2 days after the players give one of the laziest performances I've seen in the RW&B since the Dons and Tiges thrashing.

Re: Ratts Claims Mass Changes
Rattan and his selection panel must show selection integrity, which has unfortunately been lacking.
At the risk of contradicting myself I'd like to select guys who we know will give 100% and have a crack, and young guys we need to develop.
Unfortunately we have too many sub-standard discards from other clubs and just not enough young guys.
Luke Dunstan and Dan McKenzie will give 100% Highmore & Coffield are young, and Connolly may be worth a crack.
Max King & Josh Battle are out of form, but I'd like to keep playing them as well as Bytel & Byrnes.
I'm really sorry that we recruited Frawley, McKernan and Mason Wood, it's just not their fault, but they were delisted for a pretty good reason.
And please recruit more kids in the future.

I can understand that you'd like Kingy to gain experience. I was happy that we took the punt on him at No.4 in the draft and am extremely happy that he is fit and firing, however...
Part of his development and part of nearly 95% of players development should be in both the seniors and the magoos...why do you think that is?
Obviously there are benefits in creating confidence with some players and it's above the shoulders more than just 'give them games in the seniors' and just don't worry she'll be right!!
King looks tired at times, both physically and emotionally. Maybe it's because of the pressure, maybe it's because of the 5 or 6 day breaks
There is no shame in dropping a young bloke for a week or even resting them and sometimes it should be done in the interest of managing the player. These blokes don't have 4 or 5 years of preseason running under their belt
I agree with regard to Byrnes and Bytel because they have'nt had a good run at it like Kingy has
As far as dropping senior players is concerned, Ratts was wrong imo and he should NOT have said categorically that Hill would not get dropped.
The Saints heirarchy has lost the plot. They should have been tough on ALL players from the get go. Just do the right thing by the team for the long term benefit of building a culture based on honesty and trust and discipline and reward for effort.
