Leftlean, Gags and Libba, that would be a good start.
As for the team, how can a club with no depth make big changes.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Not many; there’s not a lot of soldiers to come in. Our depth is absolutely pathetic
Go you red, black & white warriors

Re: Who do you expect will get the chop?
Hard to say. As many have said on here, the problem is depth.
Any player who misses next week is not going to be able to return to senior action for some time I wouldn't think.
Although our reserves won for the second week in a row, it was 17th vs 16th - compared to Footscray (2nd) and Geelong (4th). Box Hill Hawks are currently 5th. So that tells you where we are at as a club at present.
To my way of thinking it is our lack of professional player development that is our biggest problem.

It was an embarrassing, stuttering, stumbling, repetitious shambles of a press conference!!!

I agree with all of those except Bytel. Play that kid every week and get rid of the others. Battle isn't living up to his name. He really doesn't look up to it.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sun 23 May 2021 1:20pmHow about Battle?Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sun 23 May 2021 8:15am Frawley

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

He should just be given a position for the rest of the year.
CHB is the position he did best in when given an extended run

Agree - not just with an eye to the future but also because they are making a genuine effort

Re: Who do you expect will get the chop?
True, I will agree with that but there's a point that if they are gifted games it becomes their accepted bench mark. Battle tried yesterday but I'll agree, still below par. Surely after 50 games the "out of position" excuse wears thin. It now means he's played 50 games to not command or demand a position.magnifisaint wrote: ↑Sun 23 May 2021 2:59pmI agree with all of those except Bytel. Too short for key position, too slow for anywhere else, is where he's at right now. He's better than McKernan and Wood, not exactly glowing & growing.

People play on merit
No one is guaranteed a spot for the rest of the year
Bytel has been poor of late, I’d spell him

Re: Who do you expect will get the chop?
Battle:
2021 disposals 14. 0 avg
Career 12.5
So he's getting more than usual? Or did he get 50 in one game?

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Battle was far from our wost player last night. At least he has a go and has courage to burn.

Re: Who do you expect will get the chop?
I'd like to see us play only those players who make an effort - whether or not they've previously been thought 'up to it'. I'd keep Byrnes and Bytel for sure. And Battle - and yes, I'd bring in DMac and Dunstan...I don't know how much commitment Joyce and Clavarino and the rest of them have shown in the twos - but that's how I'd pick who's playing next week. I'd probably bring Coffield back in as well if he shows enough heart at training. I know he's out of form but I'd rather have him play than an "in-form" Frawley.
IMO our problem is that we don't have - and don't seem to be trying to build - a stable group of players that can come through together. Our blokes yesterday looked like they met for the first time at training on Tuesday. All these top-up players are fine - great players even. I mean Hill hasn't suddenly lost all his skills! But instead of bringing them into a team that's already cohesive and knows what it's trying to do (the way, say, Geelong has brought in Cameron and Dahlhaus and - crikey - Isaac Smith - I mean they have brought in a serious lot of top-up players!) we've expected our top-up players to BE the cohesive team. To bring in whatever 'team spirit' they had at their other clubs and 'be' our core. Argh.
So yeah - I think knowing what to expect from one another is more important than bringing in a gun mid, much as I'd like us to have a few.
Of course I was also never on team Rotton. He's the first blow-in I'd be blowing off.

Re: Who do you expect will get the chop?
Good comments although a bit tough on Ratts. I think the guys delisted in the off season may be missed by their team mates more than is being let on. Savage, Phillips and Parker would be handy now.freely wrote: ↑Sun 23 May 2021 5:50pm I'd like to see us play only those players who make an effort - whether or not they've previously been thought 'up to it'. We replaced them with cast off and duds, Fumble bum, Wood, Frawley and Hunter. What the f*** were they thinking.
Someone deserves to get the chop for that., More than one actually.
If they don't see this mid season draft as a god send and don't draft four young ones who were not given a chance to shine last year,
I will be really spewing.
That opportunity is never going to come around again. Never.
Drafting young Josh Green would be a good starting point.
