How have we gone backwards so far?

Post: # 1903236Post footynut »

In just over 6 months, how have we gone so far backwards. I realise we've had injuries, but last year we talked about having depth... we had speed of ball movement... could had a decent forward structure. Where has all that gone?

Look no further than the recruiting of McKernan, Wood and Frawley, WTF were the club thinking!!!

Plus we keep blokes like Lonie, McKenzie, Clavarino, Dunstan, and Alabakis on our list

Marshall is a huge out , our whole team structure falls apart if Marshall doesn't play . Topping up with has been's hasn't helped but need to get a lot better at recruitment keep shooting our selves in the foot with poor decision making IMO

Unfortunately St Kilda's history shows ,as a club, they are just no good at football.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Following St Kilda's like having a pet rock. It doesn't do anything. You just can fantasize or despair, depending on the day about the past, present or future about what it can do.

Half the problem is we keep talking about last season, like we achieved something?! Like it proved we were a good side!

The players, Ratten, supporters

Last year is gone, and mean FA!!!

We actually did FA because last time I checked we didn’t win the flag!

It was a flash in the pan, in exceptional circumstances
Like Richmond in 2001

We were massively overrated going into this season, and supporters were the biggest culprits

We were massively over hyped last year..we were not that good. Our finals finish flattered us, and our performance against the WB and even Richmond, was exceptional and not sustainable. From mid-season 2020, we were never better than a mid-ladder team. We were never a contender.

I agree Marshall is worth three players..

Check out the pipes and chest on Naughton

Then checkout the sunken chest, the wafer thin arms and hunched shoulders of King

Get in the fkn gym, harden the **** up and try a lead every now and then!!!

The problem is the club itself drank its own bathwater and believed the hype. We overrated ourselves...the people who work there are supposed to have more perspective and actually drive high standards, not just pat each other on the back

It’s pretty straight forward IMO

There are a number of players on this list that are assessed on a perception of performance that they consistently don’t meet.

Both in the seniors and at Sandy and also in the context of injury and ability to get on the park

We have an incredibly talented 12-16 on the list and a host of players that aren’t up to it after that

The reality is that we’re simply not ruthless enough on our list and have a lot of problems as a result of that

If this forum is any reflection of the internal attitude of the club... we’re in serious trouble

Right now we need to seriously focus on making good long term decisions for the club
Stop playing injured players
Focus on structure
And turn over players that consistently don’t make the grade

We’re paying the price for years and years of shocking drafting and list management. We’re cooked.

We need to hit the draft hard for 3-4 years without giving away second rounds draft picks for broken old hacks from other clubs.

We need to ask whether Gags and Libratore are up to the task too. They’ve been underwhelming so far.

the club is now officially in crisis, the year is a write off, the team are a rabble
What's the next move?

I'm sure its been asked and answered, but which was the last St Kilda side that has been thumped so comprehensively this many times in a season

We lost cause Nauton has more muscles than a player in his second year ?
**** I’ve heard it all now.
Why didn’t you tell us all BEFORE the fact that you think Max King is no good and who we should’ve taken instead??
Friggin after the fact heroes after a loss...

Our losses to North and Freo and then the smashing against Geelong last year should tell all that our ‘brave intensity’ is no match for class, structure and a well balanced machine..we cannot redline the little four-cylinder Morris engine and expect it to beat a a well-oiled Mercedes Diesel over the long run..

We need to make a game plan based on our skill set..Just see Geary losing his feet and going to ground twice in the first quarter. See King in the bench for half - most? - of the quarter. Why? We have a long way to go..Can me accept that if we timed the machine to perfection, we’d be like a Brad Scott North Melbourne. Honest, competitive and never a push-over, but in all probability, a team that finishes 8th, 10th, 6th, 9th etc.

Is it really their fault?

Howard
Ryder
Crouch
Jones
Higgins

have all improved our side,

Butler was robbed of AA last year, no good this year.

Hill disappointing, not the recruiters fault, as he can be excellent.

McKernan, Frawley cost very little (and look like wasted spots)

Poor list management, finals hangover, horrid injuries and failure to adapt to 2021 footy

Ryan Byrnes got the highest AFL Fantasy points for the team. That's a positive.

But we're playing them when their not up to it. Whose fault's that?

We traded like a premiership threat.

So maybe we have gone forward too fast.

So fast, in fact, that we broke the space-time continuum and skipped our premiership and came out at another rebuild.

We got great service out of Frawley and McKernan in those premiership years though

When a team lacks drive and determination, then you look at the coach as it's not just one or two players.
