"King earns his riches: Star forward signs lucrative extension with Saints
Sam McClure
By Sam McClure
May 18, 2021 — 12.17pm

Young St Kilda forward Max King has agreed to a huge four-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until at least the end of 2026.

King, who is not yet 21, was already contracted until the end of 2022 but the club has moved to lock away their key forward asset for the next decade.

A club source told The Age the deal was done a week ago, just days before King dominated Geelong in the air but managed only 1.5 in front of goal.

The four-year extension is worth more than $3 million.

Max, along with his twin brother Ben King, are two of the most sought after young forwards in the league.

Ben’s club Gold Coast has long been wary of St Kilda’s strong desire to have both brothers play together at Moorabbin.

Saints CEO Matt Finnis told 3AW radio on Friday that Ben “would look good in a St Kilda jumper”.

The Suns moved to lock him away until the end of 2022 while Ben was in just his second year.

Max - who started his career slightly later than his brother because of a knee injury - has kicked 35 goals in his first 26 games.

Ben has kicked 67 goals in 40 games, having played in just eight wins.

The brothers are extremely close and played all their junior football together, both at club level and at school.

Max and Ben turn 21 in July."

Good news about Max.
I expect Ben to recommit to the Suns.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

$3million over 4 years is $750k per year.
We will have to pay Ben the same.

Suns to fold soon, surely. Soft salary cap cuts, GC is a money pit AFL cannot afford. Coach will either walk or be sacked before season end. Ben and Lukosius to Saints. Melbourne and Richmond have already started looting the dying carcass.

Unsurprising yet awesome news. Will tear games apart (almost did it on the weekend) and I can't wait to see it.

Perhaps we should have linked the remuneration to set shot accuracy!

While this is good news, I am sick and tired of the Max King doubters on this forum.

Yes, he can't kick straight.

Yes he misses too many marks.

But one and a half pre seasons built into him so far, and still a young kid.

Quite simply, on his rate of progress (between last year, and this year), this kid is going to be a monster player.

And as far as his set shots for goal go, his field kicking is bloody good.

Keep him in the Seniors, let him learn, and he'll be our best player since Nick (but more upside I believe).

Great.
The Stormtrooper is locked in.
Why Stormtrooper?

Because they can't hit the side of a barn

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Each set shot he misses from under 50m, he should be penalised $2000.

Hit him in the hip pocket.
He ain't worth $750k until he decides to get serious with his accuracy.
Until he can convert at about 65%, he's a huge BUST in my books.
$750 my rear end

Ben has played in just 8 wins
GC are stalled under Dew
Surely with just a year left he’s looking at his brother at Saints, whom they both loved growing up, and thinking ...time to move is now?
Offload Hannebery and Ben on same $ fits nicely
CHF, FF on a rotational basis set for a decade
Get it done Lethlean

If Ben wants to play in the same team as Max then he may well try and get to the Saints.

If Ben wants to play for a successful club, not a basket case, he may choose a different team.
