Lets just hope he can get to a level of fitness that will allow him to play some games , how many that will be is anyone's guess.

Less than 5. I'm guessing he'll play one, then be out for 3 wks with an injury, then one or 2 more, then out again.
I would be amazed if he plays more than 5

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Yeah I just dont care before round 17.
And that is only if we are a chance at finishing in the eight.
Five plus would be a good start.

I agree with this.
Bytel and Brynes to stay in now, alongside Ross, Jones and Crouch, with Steele as our premier mid, and then get Hannebery right for the back half of the season. I want Hannebery match fit and ready for finals if we make them.

If we happened to make the finals it would be good to see him play a block of 5-7 games beforehand but I’m not holding my breath. I wouldn’t be surprised if he never plays again, especially if he gets another injury.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Tue 04 May 2021 9:20pmI agree with this.

Is he best 22 even if Fit I have my doubts by the time he is ready to go Bytel and Byrnes will probably have gone past him and could we risk him limping off early in a game

Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out.

Do you count games with the Zebras seconds?

he's got as much chance of playing as we have of making finals. i wouldn't lay down a penny on either outcome.

Re: How many games will Hannebrey play thus year?
I rate Hanners. In his day, he was an absolute gun, multiple time AA midfielder. Even now, well past his time, his touch, vision, skill etc are all a level above most of our midfielders.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Tue 04 May 2021 9:20pmI agree with this.

But he is not the 2nd coming of Rob Harvey. This perspective that we just need to make the 8 and then a well rested demi-god Hanners can join the team like some unbeatable cheat code just isn't the case. He just isn't so good as to be that impactful...even an all time great like G Ablett Jr was only kind of effective for Geelong last year.
In other words, Hanners is done. He'll contribute a little here and there is he ever plays, but I don't see him being a match winner who is good enough to play 5 games and a final and be a meaningful contributor to the team across the balance of the whole season.
Good luck to him though - he's being paid well so we can't feel too sorry for him, but he must be frustrated and it would be in everyone's best interests if he was just playing instead of the whole circus it's become

Who is he going to push out? He would need some pretty convincing form in the VFL on his comeback. I don't want to see young developing players like Bytel or Byrnes get the chop in order to give an injury-riddled crock a couple of games.

He should not play any games ... coming in for a stint every now and then is too disruptive.
A team takes time to gel, it's not a fly-in fly-out gig.
Bytel and Byrnes are the future.

Re: How many games will Hannebrey play thus year?
I had him penciled in for eight pre-season, before the latest injury flare up. Just trying to pre-condition myself for disappointment. I wasn’t disappointed.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!
