Is this Ryder’s last season?
I’d hate for it to be the case as he’s a vital cog in the mission and close to our MVP...
He’s getting on though
If he retires, we’re going to have to go all out to get a premium ruck?

Re: Is this Ryder’s last season?
He still looks very fit and should be able to go on next year.
Stefan Martin at the bulldogs is a year older and still going well.
If mot we should see whether Hickey wants to come home,

Re: Is this Ryder’s last season?
Becoming one of our most glaring issues. We'll need a premier ruckman in the next year or two. Ryder is one serious injury away from retirement and Marshall is too valuable as our 2nd ruck going forward.

WTF? Topic for topic's sake. Is it [insert player name]'s last season. Who knows, what relevance silly speculation as a platform for discussion.

Re: Is this Ryder’s last season?
Fair enough I guess but a bit harsh
It’s front of mind to me given
a) how badly we played without him
b) how incredible he was on the w/e
c) the effect of his absence in Richmond final
d) that he’s 34’ish and just took time off
e) that if he did retire, getting a replacement would be close to the highest priority ahead of another defender, another elite mid or being young talent
Will be a big talking point at some time this season

If he does retire, should we target Goldstein or even Ben to play for a few years?

A bit harsh Yorkeys.
A perfectly legitimate, relevant and important topic to discuss.

Re: Is this Ryder’s last season?
Good thread. When I think about this issue I wonder who is gettable from other clubs. We need a ruckman that is A grade (ish) and/or is around the mark and capable of improving.

Incredibly valuable, best tap ruckman I've seen in a Saints guernsey. Hopefully he wants to play on & his body allows him. I do wish he was 5 years younger.

In popular music parlance, he is a one hit wonder...thanks to the opposition he had on the day he shone.

Yeah picked up on the humour for sure, I had a chuckl, I should have added a laughing emoji. I didn't realise he played in the ruck the following week, who did they play, North?SaintPav wrote: ↑Tue 04 May 2021 4:37pmI was obviously joshing but I think he did the same the week after.Vortex wrote: ↑Tue 04 May 2021 4:35pmIn popular music parlance, he is a one hit wonder...thanks to the opposition he had on the day he shone.

Re: Is this Ryder’s last season?
The Saints rucks struggled to cross the Pickett Line that day.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

As long as he has that leap you would have him therefore centre bounces as long as possible.

Re: Is this Ryder’s last season?
IMO it will all come down to his will to want to go on . Probably 1 serious injury away from retirement but I hope like hell he can go another 2 years greedy I know & I very much doubt it will happen but we are so much better every time he on the park

Re: Is this Ryder’s last season?
A very important topic.
Seeing as how the club drafted Ryan Abbott last yr, and this year, McKernan and Paul Hunter as back-up...
None of those really had an impact.
Either they aren't really decent back-ups, or they haven't yet meshed with our midfield.
But the club's gamble didn't pay off.
So we need a proper competitive back-up ruckman.
Who can at least be a presence around the ground

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Re: Is this Ryder’s last season?
I hope they get Paddy to cast his eye over the upcoming crop of rucks in the U18.
Get him to pick one out as an apprentice he can work with.
Yes it’s a left field approach, but get him invested in the process. Will leave him feeling like he has left a legacy, and hopefully keeps him connected to the Saints for many years to come
